Best Rivalry Game

The odyssey continues
2010 gets a pass for being so young, but it has long been proven that HM/ WBL tops all others.

Cambridge-Princeton
You can not beat the battle for the Rusty Skates Trophy when Cambridge plays Princeton. There were so many people in the arena one year in Princeton they turned off the heat. At one time Cambridge used Princeton Arena as their home rink but wanted a home ice advantage when the played the Tigers. For those games they used to play Princeton in Mora with Cambridge being the home squad. They would make the Princeton fans travel a half hour to watch their team. That would tick off a lot of people. And that is a true rivalry although at a smaller level from the main ones on this page.

Apollo Tech used to be a great rivalry but Apollo hasn't been able to compete with Tech in the recent past which puts a damper on the rivalry. I would say the best current rivalry in central MN is either St. Cloud Cathedral vs. Sauk Rapids or Sauk Rapids vs. Sartell.STC18 wrote:Roseau-Warroad nothing close.
Then it;d be WBL-HM and some others that are good is STA-CDH, Moorhead-Roseau, East-Cloquet.
Apollo-Tech is by far the best in central minnesota even though the two teams havent had the best of seasons lately.

What about the series last year between the Sc teams, Goldy
I'm looking at the games from last the last two season and it looks as though the games were very close. At the least by a couple of goals. I went to one and it actually looked like the (now "A") Eagles had the upper hand. Am I way off beat?

Not really. I guess what I am comparing today's rivalry between the Eagles and the Tigers to is the days of Hartman, Harrington, Howe, and Swanson when both teams played their home games at the MAC and the place was always pretty full. Much more full than it would be for an Apollo Tech game today. Tech's move to the National Hockey Center didn't help the rivalry much either. The atmosphere in the NHC is nonexistent and it feels more like you're watching a preseason scrimmage than a cross town rivalry.bigwheelXXX wrote:I'm looking at the games from last the last two season and it looks as though the games were very close. I'm not saying its the same as Roseau/Warroad but Hermantown vs. D Marshall is going to be a huge game this year. Last year people had to sneak into Hermantown Arena just so the fire marshall wouldn't keep em out. this year with marshall looking for vengence i'm going to say its going to be a packed rink
believe in the hockey gods...
Without a doubt, Roseau vs. Warroad. I've never been to a game like it! If anyone's never had the opportunity to be there in person, you must. Difference between Roseau/Warroad vs other rivalries. Everyone, and I mean everyone in town shows up. The winning and loosing records go back 100 years (back to when teams were 9-7 men and there were no shifts you played the entire game) and the tally is updated every year. You can walk into a cafe in Roseau or Warroad and ask one of the old guys drinking coffee what the tally is and they'll tell you by heart.hockeyman16 wrote:Roseau vs. Warroad all the way

By no means are they power houses of the state, nor the conference... but Simley vs SSP are always very entertaining games.
I mean the schools are no more than few miles away... On top of that, for some reason you have kids from both cities changing between the two schools. So you have the pure hatred for the "traitors". And it may not be as old of a rivalry as the Roseau, Warroad... but its up there. The neighboring cities of IGH and SSP have been scrappin for more than a few years now.
Again, not the best teams... but thats not the point of the thread. For two smaller towns the games between these two get pretty crazy, leading up to and after the games.

Best Rivalry
Tell me I didn't read Litchfield vs. Wilmar.
Roseau vs. Warroad. Population: 5,000 Attendance: about 2,500. Fights at Marvin Windows the next day 25+

You're saying that people who were at the game brought it to the work place?
