PIRATES NEED TO CHANGE THEIR BOX?
Gary Warren UMC head hockey coach and former goalie knows how to fully utilize the "home ice advantage" at the Crookston Civic. His team uses the visitors box which places the student section ontop of the opposing goalie for two periods rather than just for one. With no seating at the far end of the rink it is much to peacefull for the visiting goalie. While this may not seem like much of an edge to some of you it could hold huge in a close emotional game. Every little bit counts so why not take it? Hopefully someone can pass this along to the Pirate coaches. I'll be lookin for a change real soon.

I think this is a terrible thread. Only in girl's hockey would this be complained about. Everyone strives for equality in the girls and boys game and then things like this come up. Don't get me wrong, the girl's game has improved so much over the past 5-10 years it is amazing. I really enjoying watching girl's hockey. But plain and simple, this cannot be complained about. There are MANY rinks in the state where the home student section is on top of the opposing goalie, and I promise you things said there are much worse. I was a goalie in high school and playing in Cloquet for example, the fans are basically on top of you can they are not nice. I even had some beverage poured on me from above. I have never once made a complaint like this and neither have many other people. Let it go, it's called hockey.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts boblee. This is not a complaint but an idea to add another dimension to the home ice advantage. It should be used in both the girls and boys programs. I do not approve of unsportsman like conduct by any student or fan. I think the coach has grasped my idea dumpandchase. Good luck tonite.

Home rink
Home rink advantage is loved by the home team and hated by the visitors.
Same for every sport.
This post is nonsense.

Hey if Big Al can win the Nobel Peace prize you never know. I will try to handle you all with kid gloves next time I start a post.Sioux Rule wrote:Mom,
Your reviews of this thread are not good. You will not be winning any Pulitzer's in the near future. Better stick to baking x-mas cookies and darning hockey socks.

Mom, I'm not sure if you are condemning the coach for taking advantage of the vistors or for not taking advantage of them enough. Don't these 2 statements conflict with each other?
1) "His team uses the visitors box which places the student section on top of the opposing goalie for two periods rather than just for one"
2)"With no seating at the far end of the rink it is much too peaceful for the visiting goalie."
Personally, I think if a college goalie gets rattled by the crowd I think they are in over their head and the team needs to look for a replacement. When I played competitive hockey I loved it when the crowd was loud and especially if they were PO'd at me personally. I must have done something to get their attention and that's good for me and my team. You can make an omelet without breaking a few eggs!
At one of our rinks there is a large fan shroud above one of the benches that eventually will clip the coach in the head. This is marked as the vistors bench. Take advantage where you can. The home team always knows where the funny bounces are going to be (Zamboni gates, lively boards, dead boards, soft ice, shadowy spots etc. I don't think anyone has ever shared those secrets with the visitors
I had to laugh at you chastizing hp99... I always thought he was a mama's boy and you're calling him disrespectful. lol. When I see him in the rink I'm going to nag him for you
