I'm glad you were never my coach. That's right. But that River Lakes team got manhandled by PRAIRIE CENTRE. They were not a good team and Apollo's 2nd and 3rd liners should have been putting up points in the first.
If i recall putting up 15 goals in the first two games and giving up to goal is pretty good. But what do i know only coaching for 8 years and watching hockey sense i've been 9?

George, They sat 5 in the first period. After that it was all ApolloGeorge Blanda wrote:How have the Eagles been playing? You can't say they played that well tonight. I thought they looked terrible. I just don't think they have that much depth and that will be what hurts them.flowerpot22 wrote:thats a close one! But the way Apollo Eagles have been playing I think they're going to take it

I know, I was there. I just said that sitting those guys really showed the lack of depth that this team has.Puckerup wrote:George, They sat 5 in the first period. Shorts a little tight today? I have the coaching experience to say that Hommerding is the worst active high school in the area. The last year CHS went to state, the team could have had a better season with no coach on the bench rather than Voss. With some of the talent that Tech has had in the past, they should be embarrased to say that they are any good at all. And I'm not talking about the GCC trny.... that's a joke, and we all know it.zippitydoda wrote:Blue and Gold:
Oh yeah, Voss got a Cathedral team to state and what happened? They got totally worked. And what has Johnson proven so far? They couldn't get there last year with some really good talent and harder workers than they have this year. I don't happen to believe it is all Johnson's fault, nor Hommerdings at Tech. Last time I looked, coaches don't play the game.
I've never coached HS, but would wager you never have, either, though you think you could. It's easy to have never lost a game sitting in the bleachers. Come to think of it, I don't think you've ever played at a competitive level.
You people in the blue and gold need to worry about your own house. Let's get real on Tech vs. Cathederal getting to state, anyway. Tech plays in the same section as Roseau and Moorhead, both of which could handle any team that comes out of Cathedral's section, including the old section.
Tech is going to be the strongest team in St. Cloud for a number of years. Pure numbers are in their favor, like it or not.
Tech SHOULD be the strongest team in the area year after year. For sheer numbers alone. The fact that they refuse to play CHS in the regular season should embarras you. If anyone is even close to the Tech Tigers, then the entire team should have to wear dresses for a month. When they get beat by Apollo or CHS (OR Sauk Rapids or Sartell for that matter) then it shows a failure to their program.
So I challenge you Tech folks.. Quite flappin' your gums and show it on the ice. It hasn't happened in a LONG time..

Re: apollo
Apollo does lack depth. Their second and third lines haven't really proven much of anything up to this point. Their first line, Hampton, Mrozek and Butkowski might be carry them a very long way in their section, but if they're really going to want to make some noise, their second and third lines will have to really start producing.flowerpot22 wrote:George Blanda wrote:That's right. In all honesty from the blind Tech folks...what does Tech really bring to the table that Apollo and Cathedral don't???Blue&Gold wrote:Shorts a little tight today? Next, I don't know how someone can knock Cathedral's state tourney team. We were a fairly untalented bunch of guys that worked hard and earned the trip to the tourney. Our most talented player was like, 12 years old when we played in the tourney. Tech has failed to make it with some extremely talented groups. Yeah, Roseau and Moorhead. When Tech was talented, Roseau wasn't. And if I remember right, Tech got worked in those section finals...much like we did in the state tourney.

As a matter of fact, my shorts are a bit tight, probably too much holiday chow. Thanks for letting me share that in such a caring and supportive environment. But that's not the reason I'm cranky. The reason is more pious, know-it-all analysis from CHS supporters about someone else's program and coaches. Y'all got to state a few years back. Nice. Now try winning a game before you start lecturing everyone else on what they need to do. You pine to play Tech during the regular season, do ya?
Well, step up to AA and join Tech's section and you can have them -- and Roseau and Moorhead and Brainerd, too. But I won't hold my breath. And speaking of flapping mouths, you guys are already promoting a first line at CHS that hasn't played a varsity game together yet this year and a goalie who doesn't have a varsity game under his belt -- ever. See I read some of the other threads, too. More blah, blah, blah.

Depending on how the GCC goes...Tech plays at least 13 games this year against Class A schools. That's more than half for those counting.
Hopefully Tech stops playing those brutal single A teams. After all, they are 0 for 1 against them this year and something like 11-18 against them in the two previous years.

Yeah, two years, now there you are using a long term trend. That says a lot. You have some good analysis there. By your time frame of measurement, the polar ice caps will be melted in five years and we'll all burn to death faster than even Al Gore predicts. The simple truth is that the quality of hockey at any one given high school changes by the year (except for a few programs like Roseau). It's funny how people who have pofessed to have played or coached a sport seem to think all poor peformance depends on coaching. But good performance does not, thus the comment that CHS would have gone to state with no coach a few years ago. So........coaching can make talent worse but not better. Interesting. Too bad most coaching experts disagree. It's always interesting how CHS groupies start this crap and then get all defensive when someone shoots back.

It's really not a big deal. My opinion vs. yours. Obviously, you, being a Tech person, will be at Tech's defense 100%. And I, being a Cathedral/Apollo fan, will be at their defense. The views on here are all biased to some extent.zippitydoda wrote:Yeah, you're right. I am. Good point. Got better things to do.

Hey Zippitay,,, let me make one comment on your statement that CHS made it to State without a couach.. I mis-spoke a bit on that. The team at that time made it to the state trny because of the hard work of Brent Boerger, the previous head coach. He had a vision, and got the boys to buy into it several years previous to that time. He stayed on as an assistant and got the team to the trny. Players like George Blanda and others worked hard and did all the right things.. DISPITE the coaching of Voss.
Now, I have to add that Tech has had opportunities in the past, but the coaching of your revered Chad Hommerding has held the team back. I have to say that I don't hate Tech, and I want to see a local team do well. BUT, I do NOT like the coach for Tech for many, many reasons. I have experience with him, I know his style, and I know that he is not qualified to work with you boys at this level.
OK, so let's go St. Cloud!!!

I understand your opinion. I certainly don't agree with some of the things that have been done. I am curious, though, from your perspective what you see as the primary problem. Is it a lack of X and O? Lack of communication? Not enough experience? Motivational tactics? Personality? I'd be interested in hearing your views.

What would my mom tying my skates have to do with anything? I have a lot of respect for Cathedral...I just think Apollo is going to beat them. I'm sure a lot of people think the same thing.CarGuy wrote:goldy, what years did you play hockey at apollo? i am guessing it was in the nice slide of the last few years.....does your mom tie your skates for you too? you are really something else....where is cathedrals respect? go and research the record between cathedral and apollo whenthey have played the past number of years...i would gladly do it but not sure whereto find the answers...but i think youmay have an awakening when it happens....

If Cathedral looks like they did tonight, they'll lose by 5.
