lourdes just has too much fire power to go down to farmington, should be a good game as 1A and 1AA contenders compete. red wing and northfield are pretty good rivals and i think northfield will put up a fight at home but will fall short. faribault and albert lea are both unknown and a little down from last year but faribault has a five four game win-streak against albert lea. becoming a pretty big rival, see if they can follow up the warm up scrum from last year after albert lea players came on the falcons side and responded by shooting pucks. but faribault will prevail at home and hopefully continue to surprise. new prague with a chip on their shoulders after getting rolled over in the section finals last year. even though the trojans are a huge underdog, i think lapic and his teammates will be able to get up for this one and knock of the sparts.

funk had a nice night with 2 goals. 1 coming in the 1st minute of the game. 2-1 only end of the 1st. in the 2nd peterson scored one then later set up spratte to put lourdes in control going into the 3rd. not a blowout by any means but a good road win against a decent AA club.

Nice call on the AL-Faribault game. How anyone can say AL is "unknown" is beyond me. They must have been hiding under a rock for the past 20 years.

Mankato West has been a dominant force on the ice so far this year and have three solid lines. They have overpowered all of their opponents this year. They will be a strong contender in the section as long as coach essay learns to pull his top line after double digit leads. Injuries and overconfidence is going to eat them up.

Captain, still smarting after your 12-0 shellacking last night. Also, if he pulls his top line, those kids would see about a period and a half in each of the last three games. He's rolled 3 lines in every game so far. As far as overconfident, I don't think so. They know the last 3 games have been against three of the weaker teams they will see this year. Next week the schedule gets a little meatier with undefeated conference rival Owatonna and Section 1 foe Northfield.

sorry if i offended anyone with my albert lea remarks, i just meant that there isnt much hype about their team this year, but heard they looked really good as faribault had an off night. whats up with al road wins? big win for newprague. maybe a confidence builder for northfield knowing they can play with the top. losses so far will hurt when it comes to seeding.

Based on scores alone, West would be a good favorite right now. The NP game was a good win, the others against lesser comp. There are going to be some real nice 1st line match-ups this year, depth will play a big role in how far a team goes. There are different philosophies on playing top players when scores get out of hand, I am not sure what is right or wrong. The one thing that scares you is if a team that is getting shellacked would take a run and injure a top player. I remember a certain coach one short year ago sending a low line player out to run a goaltender in a similar situation. Personally, I admire the coaches that pull the reigns back.

Thank you Jack, I fully understand that the top line would be out after a period and a half. But, Davey, what your not seeing is the losers on the ice that are taking a shot at our topline guys with the potential to put them out for the season....then where are we left? Go ahead and shift them in here and there for skate time but I think you really need to run your bottom two lines to get them connecting the same as 14 and 11.
Correct he has ran 3 lines but he is running them 1,2,1,2,3,1,2,1,2,3(When they can stay out of the box,ha) That is how I believe he would run them in a tighter game anyhow. Point being, I don't want to follow West to the playoffs and watch them have the problems they had last year with NU or lose to injuries.
If your worried about them seeing ice time, Don't. They will have there work cut out for them in the rest of the schedule.

Boy, Nystrom really pulled the reigns back last night as he AL scored 3 goals in the last 6 or so minutes and it wasn't the scrubs that scored. I have no problem having every line play in a lopsided game. Your top line kids deserve to play because those are the kids that have generally worked the hardest to become top line players. Believe me, the better West players were on the wrong side of some shellackings several years ago when they were freshman and sophs. The young kids at East are taking there lumps now, but with hard work and determination, they will see the benefits in the next couple of years hopefully. I really wish East would win every game (except against West) as that would be beneficial to Mankato hockey overall

I think your fishing me out as an East fan....I couldnt be any less of one.
West all the way. Also, I agree with you on letting the boys take it to those who have done it to them in the past. However, like I said before, I don't want to see one of our leading players on the bench with a senseless injury. Skate 'em but keep 'em healthy. We do have depth on the team this year though so I guess I am not worried about falling too hard with any one player out.

NORTHFIELD — Nathaniel Foot deflected 18 shots to notch Red Wing’s first shutout of the season, and Dan Roschen and George Noesen tallied goals in the Wingers’ 2-0 victory over Northfield on Tuesday in the Missota Conference opener for both teams.

For Foot, who made six saves in the first period, eight in the second and four in the third, it’s back-to-back quality performances in his return from a torn ACL over the summer. Foot notched the victory Saturday in a 5-2 victory over Breck.

“He’s the hero of the game,” Red Wing coach George Nemanisch said. “He had a great outing for us.”

Roschen opened the scoring for the Wingers with a tally at the 6:32 mark of the first period with Hayden Flack and Shane Fleming recording assists. Noesen tallied an insurance goal — assisted by Ryan Kesti — midway through the third at the 8:24 mark.

Red Wing tallied 24 shots on goal, including 13 in the first. Derrick Ellingson took the loss by stopping only 22 shots.

The Wingers turn around quick and get back on the road Thursday for a matchup at Rochester John Marshall. They return home next Tuesday against Simley.

first off what i saw at the redwing northfield game was a team that screens a goalie like carzy. from what i saw. i would have to say that about the first ten shots on elingson where screens from his own team mates. but the redwings first goal was a sweet shot but it was deflected and a player from northfield skated in front of there goalie right after the shot for a screen.
