Heard it through the grape vine
what are some good rumors floating around out their? like for example i heard that since moorhead is so weak basicaly throughout their youth program they have been welcoming alot of fargo kids. over the last few years looking at the situation in moorhead i figured this was going to happen. any comments?

That simply isn't true. Sure, some Fargo kids have moved over, but that's just not true.watchdog wrote:what are some good rumors floating around out their? like for example i heard that since moorhead is so weak basicaly throughout their youth program they have been welcoming alot of fargo kids. over the last few years looking at the situation in moorhead i figured this was going to happen. any comments?
Fargo has great hockey resources, including terrific volunteers.watchdog wrote:boblee - thats why i asked the question about what i heard. ive noticed some odd scores on the board like burnsville 6 fargo 1 in peewee. that team should not get beat by five goals! so i was wondering what was going on ive noticed lately that fargo is coming around.

Sure, that goalie is form Fargo, and so are some skaters, but it isn't like the Moorhead Youth Association is going out recruiting these kids. They are making their own decisions.

The kids cannot make this decision.boblee wrote:Sure, that goalie is form Fargo, and so are some skaters, but it isn't like the Moorhead Youth Association is going out recruiting these kids. They are making their own decisions.
If they live in Fargo they cannot play in Moorhead without obtaining a transfer waiver from each association and the MN Hockey director - Fargo area diector.

Why aren't Fargo teams showing up in Minnesota tournaments? Or, am I missing something?

Grafton will have a very competitive team every once in a while. Grand Forks is always competitive. As for Fargo, not all of the Fargo teams are good, Fargo South Flyers are good, Fargo North Raiders and Shanley are not so good. Otherwise that is it.
As to why the Flyers are so good in Squirts and then drop off as they get older. I see two reasons. #1 They play system hockey as Squirts, all of their players are in the right place, they pass well, they are robots. As they get older every team they play can play positions. Flyers have trouble adjusting when the other team is in the right spot. #2 It's the competition that they play. In Squirts, almost all of their games are against MN teams. When they get to PeeWee and Bantam, they have to play a district schedule, which means that half of their games are against lower end ND teams. It makes a big difference when you always play good teams, you get better. If you play crappy teams, you learn shortcuts. You don't have to work as hard to get the end result.

Duluth is 2 1/2 hours from the cities. Their pee wees, bantams and high school players take multiple trips during the season to the cities to play against good/different competition.
Maybe Fargo should look at doing something similar.

You don't have to drive all the way to the cities to get good games in Fargo's case. D16 and D15 are right on their borders and they have very competitive teams as well as GF and Grafton. In squirts, they do head to the cities quite, but PW and Bantam's they are hamstringed by there 20 game league schedule. Squirts don't have a league schedule so they can schedule whoever they want.
Fargo
Raiders and Flyers are solid programs, teams year to year vary. West Fargo is up and coming...maybe....
All I remember is Fargo South was a hard fought and sometimes ugly rivalry,( not sure if teams even play eachother anymore, we're talking coaches ejected, penalty numbers being maxed out, player ejections, no handshakes......heck, the ref even ended a game 2-3 minutes early once.) we are 45 minutes from Fargo Moorhead and played at least twice a year. North had tough games.
The comment on system hockey is correct. In squirts we lost to Fargo teams 10-1, at the peewee level we had competitive games, but at the bantam level we won 4-1 6-1 5-2 etc....still competitive games but all wins nonetheless.
North Dakota schedules and or rules probably differ from MN so who knows why they aren't coming to tourneys. Fargo always had big ones to go to though.
Now the funny thing is, we NEVER EVER beat Moorhead.....(Black as b teams or as A teams).............why I wonder.....

Well then I think we might have a problem. As far as I've been told, the parents are going to rent a place in Duluth next year so the kids can go to East High School. Just what I've heard though.
