Duluth East probably ends up with the toughest. Being an independant, they aren't stuck playing a bunch of conference bottom feeders (see Hill). They are a desireable opponent and are willing to travel.

Re: Toughest Schedules
Speaking of Hill and their easy conference schedule, I am setting the goal differential over/under vs. North at 7.Neutron 14 wrote:AHEM!SEC Scotty wrote:Year in and year out Duluth East, Moorhead, and White Bear Lake play a very tough schedule which includes games against each other.butterball5 wrote:Who has the toughest Schedule in the State of Minnesota![]()

cathedral
St cloud Cathedral has the hardest schidule for single A schools. they play 10 of the current top 20 teams plus 2 or 3 others that should be in there. I think they will be a strong teams and should win most of their games, but their schedule has got to be one of the toughest if not the toughest.

Other than unfortunate district rules which require them to slaughter Duluth Central every year, Duluth East consistently has the hardest. Take this month, for example:
Wayzata
Minnetonka
WBL
Cloquet
Moorhead
Centennial
Anoka
Schwan Cup Gold Division, beginning with Hill-Murray.
And they play Edina, Blaine, and most of their section rivals in January and February, including Grand Rapids and Cloquet, part II. As a fan, it's fun to watch. You get to see just about every great team in the state.

Can you quantify this?
When it is all said and done, count how many Top 5, Top 10, Top 25 opponents and team has. Then go and count how few they face outside the Top 50 (games you can take the night off and still win).
I'll be surprised if anyone plays a tougher slate than Edina.
Rochester Century was 3rd Place last year.
Burnsville.
Minnetonka.
Centennial.
Benilde-St. Margaret's.
Elk River.
Eden Prairie.
Cloquet.
Duluth East.
Grand Rapids.
Wayzata three or four times.
Blaine or St. Thomas.
and more.
Very few nights off.

Blanda, You could defend it by saying that playing A teams is preparing you for the tournament you are in. Not saying that's true or not, but Hermantown plays 2 AA teams and they do all right. St Thomas has a pretty good schedule as well. I think Cathedral, Marshall and St Thomas are all up there. Warroad has a good schedule as well.

When hell freezes over, I'll play hockey there too.

"I'll be surprised if anyone plays a tougher slate than Edina. "
I bet that Duluth East probably has the toughest schedule. I have not looked top to bottom, but another poster listed their schedule and the one point above Edina's schedule is that DE will be playing with the big boys in the Gold Division of the Scwan's cup. Had Edina been in that division, then they may have had the toughest schedule...IMO

sure
Whatever. Had the Gold division teams played in the Edina Holiday Tournament they'd have a serious schedule.Zamman wrote: Had Edina been in that division, then they may have had the toughest schedule...IMO
Grand Rapids, Elk River, Eden Prairie, and Edina - NONE of the Edina Holiday Tournament teams play in the Schwan Gold.
Edina's Holiday tournament is older than the Schwan, and in fact it is the model for the Schwan. (In the 80s the event was at Met Center.)
Holy Angels opens against White Bear. Edina opens against Benilde. It isn't like there's any difference there. Edina plays Duluth East, Centennial, and Minnetonka (twice). Why should they play those teams again? Holy Angels has to because their league is HORRIBLE.
Measure it any way you want at the end of the year and Edina will has as tough a schedule as anyone.
You are correct, though. Duluth East has a tough slate. The part that is nonsensical is you mentioning Schwan Silver as though that renders Edina's schedule inert. 75% of their games will be against state Top 30 teams. None will be against teams in the bottom half of Minnesota HS hockey. Probably 25% will be against Top 10 teams, unless last year's solid clubs like DE, CEC, GR, or Centennial aren't as good in 2008.

Comparison of Duluth East & Edina
It is actually pretty easy to compare DE and Edina since they have so many common opponents. Computer (PS2) rank listed next to opponent.
They play each other.
Common Opponents:
Wayzata
Minnetonka
Cloquet
Centennial
Elk River
Grand Rapids
Rochester Century
Duluth East Edina
Moorhead – 2 Minnetonka – 6
AHA (Schwan?) – 4 Burnsville – 9
Hill-Murray – 5 Benilde – 15
Blaine – 12 Cretin – 17
Cloquet – 19 Eden Prairie – 18
Brainerd – 27 Wayzata – 31
Stillwater – 28 Wayzata – 31
Anoka – 33 Wayzata (Schwan?) – 31
Forest Lake – 38 Armstrong - 36
Denfeld – 45 Armstrong – 36
Mayo – 61 Buffalo – 44
Apple Valley – 71 Chaska – 46
Hastings – 78 Maple Grove – 59
Duluth Central – 145 Hopkins – 60
Superior, WI – NR Hopkins – 60
3rd Schwan game 3rd Schwan game
7AA 2AA
Edina is in a section with Burnsville and Holy Angels, so they may be able to cancel out the AHA game after all.
The 3rd Schwan game for Duluth East will be against a quality opponent, even if they lost twice. Centennial - 7, Minnetonka - 6, Moorhead - 2, and Roseville - 11 are at the bottom of the draw.
Edina will have an equal opponent more than likely. Brainerd - 27, Blaine - 10, St. Thomas - 3, and Cretin - 17 are at the bottom of the Silver.
Of course, PS2 ranks will be ever-changing as the season wears on. Moorhead and Holy Angels are being propped up a bit because last year's results haven't totally been dropped yet, Burnsville too.
Duluth East may wind up facing a few more Top 10 teams, it depends how this season goes. It looks pretty certain that they'll have a little softer break at the bottom of the schedule. One could argue that Top 10 teams like East and Edina shouldn't worry about their opponent much if they are 40 or 140.
If Wayzata winds up doing real well this season the Hornets schedule is sick.
For now I'll say these are pretty even but you could say the Greyhounds run is a smidge harder if you look solely at the top and base schedule strength off of last year. Doubt it'll end up like this.
Both play very strong schedules. You are right about that.
They play each other.
