Mr. Hockey 2008?

Joe gets beat too much and I would agree with you if Joey Brehm was back there with him, however FRESHMAN Max Everson is back there. Joe cannot leave him back alone. Max and Cashetta cannot be expected to stop 3 on 1s, but Joe is a strong enough player to do that and should try to stay back more and help out on defense. Edina has enough offensive power Gleason really doesn't need to jump into the rush as often as he does.

JT Brown of Rosemount will be a darkhorse. If he can keep up lighting the lamp like he has, he deserves serious consideration!

he can and he will. the hat trick streak stopped, but as stated in another thread, he had one goal, and (not completely sure about how many) a few assists in about 5 shifts against kennedy.

Gleason has a long way to go to be considered a top two way player. Breakout is definitely accurate about that. The biggest difference between a kid like Ness and a kid like Gleason is Ness is very good on both ends of the rink and has superior hockey sense.

To answer your question: from what I heard Gleason didn't play much D in the Elite League. On the particular play in question, Gleason and his partner jumped in the rush. One of them had the puck, they skated past their forwards without moving the puck and one of the D (Gleason or his partner) was offsides. The experienced hockey guy I talked to said he had never seen that before. Can't say I have either.

How about:

Everson is playing the best on his team

I heard he was out for 6 goals in one Elite League game (unfortunately the league doesn't keep plus-minus)

There are other players listed as "A" players by Centeral Scouting; he is not.

Don't get me wrong, being in the top ten is awesome. He is heading for UND. He is obviously a very good player. However, not best in state. If he were a complete two way player I might be inclined to think differently.

Name a better canidate then him for Mr. Hockey Everson is playing better but he is a junior.

The point he was making with Everson is that Gleason shouldn't be Mr. Hockey becuase there are two or three players playing better on his own team.

Youso's schedule should get him NO Mr. Hockey, for crying out loud, Lake of the Woods!!! Pick someone who for the past 3 or 4 years has played a tough schedule and still has managed to put up 20-30 goals, points against sub par teams

He isn't close to being ready to go straight to the pros. Especially at his size. I will be surprised if he isn't in college hockey for at least three years due to the NHL's bias against smaller defensemen.

Lee is a junior and Hendrickson shouldn't win it, because Tyler Barnes is a better player and he brings Hendrickson's game to another level just by being on the ice with him.

Gardiner from Minnetonka is amazing. He might not be the kid who is gonna go out and score 4 goals a game or lead the state in points. But he is the kind of kid that no one gets by, could win Mr. Hockey, has a chance to play in the NHL some day.

Gardiner needs to enhance his position play. Remember, he has only been a D for a short period of time. He should go high in the upcoming draft. However, he isn't a complete D player. Too much running around, not enough attention to detail.

Whatever

Pretty much every team plays someone on their schedule who is considered weak. You can't hold that against the player as he doesn't make the schedule. He's still a great player and student and will be in the consideration for Mr. Hockey.

I've posted this several times now, but this is the criteria directly from the Mr. Hockey official website...

Awarded to the outstanding senior high school hockey player in the state of Minnesota. The finalists are selected by a panel of National Hockey League Scouts, Division One Coaches, and selected media members from around the state.

The award is sposored by the Minnesota Minutemen, whose chairman is Loren Feldkamp. Loren is aware that Ness is accelerating his studies and is tracking his academic progress. If he's on pace to graduate this spring, he'll be eligible for the award.

Because of the NHL Scouts influence, a player that isn't picked or ranked to be picked highly in the draft is unlikely to win the award. However, there have been exceptions to that scenario in the past.

That being said, I'll repeat what I think the odds are of who I think the favorites are to win the award...

3/1 - Aaron Ness - Roseau (if he's deemed eligible)
4/1 - Jake Gardiner - Minnetonka
6/1 - Tyler Barnes - Burnsville
7/1 - Joe Gleason - Edina
