I heard it several times this weekend too but don't know for sure. She was not playing last week against Owatonna but I don't know if she was out sick, a healthy scratch or just benched.

SB is no longer on their roster on MGHCA.com. The word at the rink last night is that she was the whippin' boy (ok girl) and could no longer take it. I hope she can find a 19U team to play on before rosters are closed. I wish her luck.

I'm really sorry to hear that. She's a real good player; all-conference-type and Freshmen/Sophomore development camp last summer. I hope she continues to play somewhere, and gets back into the HS game next year.

I'm going to call her dad and refer them to Lemish's dad so they can move to JM for next year. As long as they change addresses she can switch teams, right?

[quote="Rocket78"]Neither basketball or figure skating are drawing girls from hockey as you stated. It is going the other way. Former figure skaters - Olofson, Klampe, Grinde, McCormick, Laures, Knapp, Knapp, Dison, Brakke, Durigan, Weber, Bier, Nelson, Sheers, Debolt quote]

im not sure where you get your facts from but i can tell you that olofson and grinde still figure skate AND play hockey. brakke is a diferent one then the one who plays hockey. lastly knapp, knapp is also incorrect that family has three girls the two older ones play hockey for century and have never figure skated in their lives its the youngest who figure skates. i do however believe that the girls who have figured skated and now play hockey are at an advantage as are those who continue to do both. im sure you ment well when you wrote that but i just wanted to help you get your facts straight

cghockey#9, You dredged up a pretty old post! Yikes, 2007! I had to go back and reread the thread but the point I was making was that contrary to what iPuck had stated, Rochester girls are not abandoning hockey to play basketball or figure skate but in fact hockey is taking girls from the other sports. Sorry if I was wrong on the Knapp's. There is a Brakke in hockey who is not the Century figure skater. I heard Klampe doesn't play hockey any more. The other girls mentioned were figure skaters and I don't doubt that Olofson and Grinde are still in F/S as well as hockey. According to the PB, Aney is doing another intro to hockey for girls so they'll probably recruit some additional figure skaters again.

Haha sorry you had to dig so far back. I understand your point now. Your right klampe no longer plays hockey she played one season and then her parents wouldn't let her play anymore since she had gotten a few concussions. And I do believe there is going to be the intro to hockey camp which is great since it helps get girls interested. Hopefully we recruit a few figure skaters.

Has anybody heard what is happening with the goalie situation at century? Its looking pretty ugly right now..

Also, any new or good U14 players moving up? Its looking like a long year... any good workout or news from summer dryland or hockey??

Guess just wondering why a better player would want to continue playing with Century if the girls are not working to get better and the coach is not really holding these kids accountable to get better?? Why not look for other options are they available? Meaning since they cant transfer to JM, etc... What other options do they have, but I would look if it was me!

can someone help me understand why they are not getting better besides the obvious of lack of talent for some of the girls?

Airhockey,

Here's what I can tell you to answer some of your questions.

Two Century players skated at goalie in the spring league.

One player "ages out" of 14U and moves up to Century. There are eight girls that are 14U eligible that are in the Century school boundary.

I don't know what the Century team did in the June-July timeframe as a team since I don't have a daughter playing for them. I can tell you that they went to a spring tourney in Hayward and finished runner-up. They either tied or won the shoot-out competition for the skaters and the goalies. Eight Century girls played in the local spring league compared to three from JM/Lourdes and two from Mayo. Several CHS girls attended a local weeklong camp. One attended the MGHCA Freshman/Sophomore camp. Four are currently involved in another local hockey camp.

A large number of the current CHS team did not play youth hockey and therefore they do not have the muscle memory that you would get in a skater that has played since the age of 7. There is a solid number of girls coming up in the youth ranks - in addition to the 14U girls there are about ten that are 12U aged. Century has come a long ways and when this younger core gets to high school they will be fine. I'm not going to project an MSHSL championship any time soon but they will be able to hold their own.

Blah, Blah, Blah. Somethings never change it been that way for 10 years. Maybe its time for the people incharge quit hanging around (MAC15) and have someone that can get things going. The stuff I hear from a Century player is inbelievable and can see ways they are failing. If someone doesn't start in a new direction it will remain the same as it has always been, the best players play for the Throughbreds or come up to the cities and lose.

So why are you moving back?

I've only been in charge of the RYHA girls program for one year. Man, tough audience.

I am not moving back, don't want to retard my players development. Why dont you look into AAA and start something that will help the girls instead of having them play for other teams not associated with Rochester.
