I was simply reffering to how the Greenway boys played the night before against Grand Rapids. They gave 110%, their performance much like Silver Bay's on Saturday. I made no reference to the Lightning playing better in different buildings. Since you brought it up, Greenway's ice plays much slower and that helped Silver Bay because GRG is a rather fast team. Not to say the game would have been any different in Rapids or in Silver Bay, or anywhere else. As I said, congrats to Silver Bay, you came to play and GRG, for the most part, didn't. That is a huge win for the Lightning. When you can win a game like that right after coming from behind on Thursday against a very good Bemidji team and then not having ice on Friday. It was a great win for Grand Rapids/Greenway and a great battle by Silver Bay. Time to turn our attention to next weekend.ice29 wrote:boblee - Thank you for your response??? Lightning outshot the Mariners greatly, and out chanced them also. But Silver Bay did fight very hard and that was great to see.
Good Luck to the Lightning - I back all Girls Hockey Programs, especially Section 7 !!

Grand Rapids/Greenway is heading to Chisago Lakes (12/14) and Cambridge-Isanti (12/15) with a 9-1-1 record. Good chance to improve to 11-1-1. I will be back with more thoughts later today, I hope.

I really like the Lightning to have a big win today. Molly Arola is having a fantastic junior year and Emily Erickson hasn't lost her scoring touch...
Lightning 6
Chisago Lakes 1
I should have a final score up sometime tonight. Possibly even updates.

CI 1 Final
Grand Rapids dominated shots in this VERY physical game. I think Erickson had 4 goals, at least one being short handed. Tons of penalties, I think there was about a 10 minute stretch in the 2nd/3rd periods where there was no 5-on-5. CI played very physical, but they didn't have much of an answer for Erickson, or any of the Lightning tonight. Saves were about 12 for Havel, and 37 for the CI goalie.

First of all, they aren't afraid. Second of all, Forest Lake is not the best team in this section. If it isn't the 11-1-1 Lightning it is the unbeaten Duluth squad. Also, GRG plays a VERY tough schedule. It is essential to schedule some "easier" games throughout the season.archway Sign wrote:why don't they play Forest lake...are they afraid of them...Lightning travel to the cities alot...why don't they play the Rangers....Rangers are the best team in the section...

The Lightning should be taking Forest Lake seriously, sure F Lake will
take their lumps while Hamner is at U18's next week, but will be ready for
sections. Don't let the competition from the suburban east conference fool
you (state champ stillwater game) we will be ready for sections this year.
Grand Rapids would be similar to Flake record wise in the sububan east.

I don't in anyway think that any northern teams will take FLake lightly. GRG, Duluth, and Cloquet are all VERY good hockey teams though.

The Lightning will continue its hot scoring ways tonight, but Hibbing goaltending will also play strong.

I'll try to answer those question after the two games they play this week. Don't forget about Gallop and Arola offensively also. They have been playing just as well this year.cluelessinminnesota wrote:Three Questions?
What will be the score of the GR vs Cretin game at the Abra Auto Cup in Edina next week?
How will GR fare in the Abra Auto Cup?
and How many goals will E Erickson score in three games during the Abra Auto Cup?

I was actually more impressed with Gallop than Arola and Erickson. Maybe it was just the night I saw her. She didn't have as many points but she was opening things up and making plays both offensively and defensively.boblee wrote:I'll try to answer those question after the two games they play this week. When Gallop has her good nights, that is exactly what happens. Arola plays much the same style. So when she has her good nights is looks the same way. Erickson focuses more on the offensive side, which is probably why you noticed Gallop. The top to lines for GRG are very good and very balanced. I am excited to see how they match up in Edina.State Champ 97 wrote:I was actually more impressed with Gallop than Arola and Erickson. Maybe it was just the night I saw her. From the few games I have seen from GRG's Erickson over the years, and again, maybe it was the particular games I saw. She dominated the game. She is very quick but almost deceptively quick.
Arola and Gallop are both great players! I think GRG offensively flows through Erickson however. I personally believe it is easier to coach defense than it is to teach someone how to score. In terms of creating opportunities I think Erickson is one of the best in the State.
I saw on another thread she has yet to commit?>? Wow!
