Transfer Loophole

Anyone know of players who are attending a new school while they play hockey at their old school - with anticipation of playing varsity hockey at their new school next year? If so, how is this working out? Are there any hard feelings at the old school? Are the players at the new school welcoming to someone they are still competing against?

This was part of the new rule from what I understood. I would assume to allow for a transfer for academics and not hurt their sports at the same time. Not sure who would be able to pull that off, with out causing more harm than good.

I personally don't like the new rule. Good players can be harmed by not being able to play after transfering.

Some probably already have. That and now a kids parents have to decide what is the right thing for their kid by the end of 8th grade.

Since I posted this, someone told me that Brittany Evers, NDP goalie from St Louis Park is now attending Minnetonka HS, but playing for St Louis Park. So, I guess the transfer loophole does provide the opportunity for someone to continue playing while they seek out better educational opportunities.

It looks like Minnetonka, the team that just beat BSM 3 - 1, will be getting a top goalie next year. Wasn't there another goalie that also open enrolled at Minnetonka? What do these goalies know that we don't? Will Minnetonka be the new Eden Prairie of Minnesota Girls High School Hockey? How can anyone complain when the transfers all occurred according to the NEW strict and fair rules?

Its good to see that SLP is letting her play varsity. My fear would be that the original school coaching staff and administration would buckle under pressure from parents to let an SLP player play in her spot or cut her from the team.

I have to agree, nice to see that the original coaching staff is treating her like a "senior" and accepting that if she can help the team this year they're playing her......fully aware that they will lose her after the season.

I have to agree, nice to see that the original coaching staff is treating her like a "senior" and accepting that if she can help the team this year they're playing her......fully aware that they will lose her after the season.

Not sure about how cut-throat the girls side of the sports are, but I know there are a quite a few boys hockey coaches that would want absolutely nothing to do with a kid playing varsity that will not be there next year because he transferred.

Dunno. I do know that their U12A team is one of the 2 best in the state along with Cottage Grove.

However, last year both the U14A and U14B teams from Tonka won the Minnesota State Youth Tournaments with aTonka Girls.

They have the top 9th grader in the state.

Looks like the girls want to play on winning team too!

Before we anoint them a dynasty, let's not forget they only won the 14 title(s) because all their U14 eligible players decided (collectively) to stay and win a title at their home rink. The reality was that all of their peers (competitive) moved on to high school. Most (good) U14 A teams have their best 8th graders. Tonka not only had them, they also had their top 9th graders. There was not a team in the state that could claim that. With that said they will be a good team for years to come, buts let’s try to keep everything in perspective.

Just FYI this year the 14A is a middle of the pack team, probably around .500.

Are you aware that there was a large number of seniors on last years MHS varsity team?

Even though I don't have a hockey playing daughter, I do know alot about what goes on at Minnetonka. I do know the coach and there were several pre-season meeting held with players, parents and coaches regarding this age group.

The consesus was, there were enough girls in grades 9 through 12 last season so the coach didn't have to tap into the youth program and cut aready eligible HS girls.

The fact is, this group of girls is highly skilled, the won State, and now there are playing at the next level.
