Duluth Denfeld @ St Cloud Cathedral
It's still early but this game could easily determine the #1 seed in 5A

I can't help but think that SCC is a little deeper than DD. However, the gap isn't very big. DD has Johnson, SCC has Schmidt. I go with Schmidt in this case. In years past, the way to beat DD has been to stop Johnson, and SCC has a couple of guys who should be up to that task. However, I'm not confident that Cathedral's goalies are up to the task as Johnson is not the only threat on that team.
I'm expecting a good game, and I really don't think that the outcome will dictate the section finals. But you are correct in that this is probably a game for the #1 seed in the section playoffs.
I'll be there....

Well, Hermantown is wanting a Crusader win right now. A Cathedral win will free up that #1 seed creating a race between Denfeld, Cathedral, and Hermantown. A Denfeld win, barring and upsets, will get them the #1 seed.
This one is too close to call. I've seen Cathedral play very well (the first two periods vs. Lourdes) and I've seen them play awful (game against Alex).
This one will be a good one. I'll be there...working, but I'll be there.

I almost thought about sticking around in St. Cloud just so I could go to this game on Friday, but decided against it. Should be a great game though. Even though Denfeld's top goaltender is out with an injury their backup has been playing well according to his stats. The past few years Denfeld has been winning the regular season meeting but then losing to SCC in the playoffs. I'd like to see a 2-0 record against the Crusaders this year
Honestly, if Denfeld can get past the bus legs which they seemed to have had in their only two losses this season, I have to think they have a great chance to win. SCC on the other hand, plays great defense and always has; so if any team can shut Denfeld's offense down it's them. I better be getting regular updates on here from you guys at the rink!

I'd say SCC was the better team tonight. Denfeld will show a different game next time. I think SCCs goalie gave some up that he thinks he shouldn't have. The game, realistically, was about a 6-2, 6-3 game. SCC was the better team tonight. The next time these two face off there won't be 10 goals scored...Denfeld is a good team and could very well take out SCC next time.

You're right, they should. SCC looked very solid tonight against a good Denfeld team. Like George said, Denfeld could very easily beat Cathedral on a different night, but tonight Cathedral looked like the better team. Bus legs for Denfeld?7A22A wrote:A SCC win over Hermantown = #1 seed. They should move up in the polls.

I have a few buddies in Cloud that played for Cathedral in high school and they were unsure what kind of team they'd be this year. Well, I think the game tonight answered a lot of questions. Then again, my senior we beat Cathedral 6-2 in the regular season, but when it counted SCC won 3-1 in the playoffs. Anything can happen in the next two months! Congrats to Cathedral.

It couldn't have been that much of a dominance by SCC. Denfeld outshot SCC in both the 1st and the 3rd period. Between those two periods Denfeld also outscored SCC 4-2. Now I wasn't at the game but it looks to me that a horrible 2nd period by Denfeld was the deciding factor. Prephockeynorth says Olcott started in nets for Denfeld and rinkwriter says Skurich started for Denfeld, can anyone confirm the actual starter in goal for the Hunters?Goldy Gopher wrote:Cathedral 6
Denfeld 4
Denfeld puts in a couple late goals to make it look closer than it actually was.

Skurich was the starter.
As for saying that Cathedral didn't dominate. I'd tend to say that the majority of those "quality" opportunities belonged to Cathedral.
Most of Denfeld's shots were from the perimeter while Cathedral was contiunuously getting good looks. Palusky from SCC had at least 4 breakaways or partial breakaways himself.
I'd say one, maybe two, of Denfeld's goals were nice goals. The other ones Cathedral's goalie wishes he had back.
