I don't think there is any such rule. Its all up to the school/coaches but most programs have some sort of guidelines they follow as to how to aproach lettering. Most programs as previously stated before my response require around a 50/90 playtime to practice ratio to earn a major letter. All you have to do to minor letter is pretty much be on the varsity team,
