This is about 3rd hand information, but I heard it was in retaliation for a crosscheck and that he probably wasn't aiming for the guy's head. Wasn't there, so obviously I don't know how accurate this is.
It's not an excuse, but possibly the "heat of the moment" statements are accurate, though.

Not really,it was his first incident as a varsity player, not considered a dirty player, a lot of kids get frustrated and will do something stupid like that.Zeke16 wrote:Something of that magnitude does!

Again - second hand info here, but I work with the guy who reffed the CDH/Brainerd game after the Edina one, and he's an Edina guy who knows the Budish family.
He was watching the game, and when Zach got dressed to watch the rest of game and came out, the ref talked to him about it.
The story he gave me is that Zach took it like a man. He didn't deny that he was taking a hack at the kid from Wayzata, but he didn't mean to hit him in the coconut. He was evidently falling back at he time, lost control of his stick and hit him upstairs.
But again, word I got is that he was a man about it. He said it was stupid, that he let his emotions get the better of him, he deserved what he got, and fully expects Giles will skate the s*** out of him when they get back to practice.
I'm not one to defend Edina too often, but I trust he word I got, and it sounds like Zach is doing a good job of taking responsibility for his actions. Fortunately nobody was hurt, so it's a good opportunity to learn a lesson from it.
