Conference Play in 2008

Post by blueblood »

Now that the Holiday tournaments are wrapping up, let's hear from the the passionate followers about their upcoming conference games.

I'm talking Lake, Classic Lake, Northwest Suburban. What's gonna happen on the Range? How about Section 8AA and A. I'll start with the Classic Lake:

5 teams: Edina (pre-season favorite), Tonka (looking strong under 1st year coach Urich), Hopkins (unbeaten and the surprise of the metro led by an 8th grader), Armstrong (will be in most most games with Thorson scoring goals) and Wayzata (seem to be down, but always tough when you consider they are one of the largest youth programs in the state).

The first game to watch is next week as Tonka goes to the Hopkins Pavillion to take on the Royals. The projected starting goalie for Tonka will be the Hopkins transfer.

Hopkins is off to a great start, but are they for real?

The other 2 games to watch for are the Edina - Tonka matchups, with the game at Braemar televised on FSN. I don't see anyone sweeping through with an 8-0 record. My predictions:

Edina: 7-1 (loss to Tonka)
Tonka: 6-1-1 (loss to Edina and tie with Wayzata)
Armstrong: 3-5
Hopkins: 3-5
Wayzata: 0-7-1

Here's my prediction for the St. Paul City Conference:

Johnson: 2-0
Como Park: 0-2

And Minneapolis...

East: 3-0
West: 0-3

Take it to the bank.

I know most teams still have about 2 games left to play before everyone has played everyone 1 time but I'll give it a shot.

LAKE CONFERENCE-CURRENT STANDINGS
*Teams in parentheses are teams left to play twice*
*Predicted records after they finish playing everyone at least once in brackets*

Rosemount 7-1 (EP, B'ville) [7-3]
Jefferson 6-1-1 (EV, LN, EP) [8-1-2] Already played LS twice
Burnsville 6-2 (Ken, Rose) [8-2]
Eden Prairie 5-2 (Rose, LS, Jeff) [7-2-1
Eastview 4-2-1 (Jeff, Ken, Eagan) [6-3-1]
Lakeville North 3-3-2 (Jeff, LS) [4-4-2]
Eagan 3-5 (EV, AV) [3-7]
Lakeville South 2-5-2 (EP, LN) [2-7-2]
Apple Valley 2-5-1 (Chaska, Eagan) [4-5-1]
Chaska 2-6-1 (AV) [2-7-1]
Kennedy 0-8 (B'Ville, EV) [0-10]

I'm running a little low on time I may not finish before I have to head out so I'll post now and continue my work and may be done before I go but if not will finish tonight with an edit. If I only had 5 teams like the Classic Lake this would have been easier.

That is pretty accurate and I dont think I could have done any better if I tried... I too believe Rosemount and Jefferson are at the top of that list.

Alright back at it. This is what I came up with I may be a little off on something perhaps but it's late and I don't see anyone else taking a stab at it yet.

FINAL LAKE CONFERENCE PREDICTION

1. Burnsville 16-4
2. Jefferson 15-3-2
2. Eden Prairie 15-3-2
4. Rosemount 15-4-1
5. Eastview 11-7-2
6. Lakeville North 8-9-3
7. Apple Valley 8-10-2
8. Lakeville South 6-12-3
9. Eagan 4-15-1
10. Chaska 3-15-2
11. Kennedy 0-20

As you can see the top 4 teams are all very close and it could go either way with a few games turning from the way I had it. Also upsets happen and teams don't show up some nights or a goalie might play insane. I wanted to give Kennedy a win but I just couldn't do it. I honestly don't know if I think Burnsville can win the conference but that's the way it came out.

And let the complaining begin...

As I said, thats pretty close but I dont know about Bville winning it. If I were a gambling man (and I am) I would put my money on Jefferson. Who do you see knocking off Jefferson and EP other than Bville?

I agree with you newsguy...like I said I too don't feel they will thats just they way it came out. I like Jefferson as well. When you look at the way the standings came out the top 4 teams are all within 2 points of eachother.

My Predicts:

1. Boys in the Baby Blue- should win all remaining conference games
2. JT Brown- oops I mean Rosemount, not that great, but same reason as
jags
3. Evil Prarie- Gotta love their ability to pull out the scrappy wins
4. Blazed- Same problem as Rosemount, 2 man team
5. Eagan- Allot better than people give them credit, great TEAM PLAYERS
6. The Northside- No comment, after 5 things drop off
7. EV- Playing Sandstorm at the start of games does not equate to wins
8. The Southside- Gotta love the goaltending
9. AV- How they miss Fischer and Medvek
10. Kennedy- tear ;(
