I'm not sure they got shafted, but it was probably a missed call. They happen all night, every night.
Hockey question from a non-hockey player to those who have played:
At 16:31 of the first period Tony Mergens (STA) went to the box for hooking. At 16:36 Matt Bergland (BSM) scored a goal. From what I've learned Mergens should've come out of the box and been even strength after that, but he stayed in for the next minute and 55 seconds. Can someone clear this up for me? I was really confused why they got to score and continue to have a power play.

BSM manhandled Breck on thursday, about as bad as you can dominate a team. That same Breck team beat STA. On friday night, STA was better than BSM.... Any given night........ I think the Edina game took a lot out of the Red Knights and they weren't mentally or physically ready for the Cadets. Who knows, maybe we'll see them play again in Mar....... wait never mind.

It looks to me from the Box-Score that BSM had gotten a penalty at 15:25, that penalty would not have been expired at 16:31 when the STA penalty occured, meaning the play was 4 on 4 at the time of the goal. So it was an even strength goal for BSM. So the STA player must remain in the box.HShockeywatcher wrote:I'm not sure they got shafted, but it was probably a missed call. From what iv'e been told STA totally outplayed Breck as well. Outshot them 47-16 or there abouts. One of those nights when the puck went in for Breck, but not STA. As far as the BSM D goes i realize there may have been a letdown after the big win. And maybe they felt a need to pinch, but that doesn't explain the fact there a very non phisical group, collectively. But i suppuse if you can't catch-em how can you hit-em? I have watch Student play only a couple times, so maybe this isn't fair, but as a true Defenseman he does not impress me at all. He should be a forword. He doesn't hit anyone. All he cares about is scoring. So if your captain runs all over the ice how do think the rest are going to play. After watching BSM i would have to believe Edina didn't bring there game that night. A case where 8 out 10 nights Edina wins.

It was nice to see Ryan Stepan get a big goal for that STA Team. This kid gets no glory for a job well done. Night in and night out he the steadiest D-man they have. Way to go kid, it was a big goal.
That makes sense. Especially when you consider that BSM, HM and AHA all have about 400 some boys in their school and the defending Class AA champs Roseau have even less than that.thetac wrote:The reason that STA won't move up to AA is because they are not a big school. They're entire student body (grades 9-12) comprises less than 500 boys.....and that's why they are where they are! I do think they could compete and hold their own in AA.
Yup,sounds good to me.
