Undercover Hockey Lover wrote:What did Moosejaw say about numbers....supposedly 21 players out for varsity. They took what...three kids up from Bantams to fill varsity slots and I really don't know how the JV looks for numbers although I think someone said they had a really short bench. Remember it's a marathon and not a sprint and the only games that really count are the ones in late February and if you survive early March. TRF hosts the Sections I'm assuming there is some tear down and rebuild from the previous guy whose at the opposite end of the bench now. Anybody from TRF WANT to comment. What I don't understand is you have a community of 10,000, a 10 million dollar arena and a new quality head coach and nobody wants to play? warrior4 and greenwave09 were defending the previous regime looks like he MAY have been a Demolition Man more than some people want to admit.
I'm surprised that they have problems with numbers. At their first PR game when #2 Lehrke (Zack is #3) was playing TRF arrived with 20 varsity and 20 JV players. PR ran out of players for the 3rd JV period (no more than 4 periods/day and no more than 3 consecutive periods) so 3 TRF JV players put on Panther jerseys and skated with the boys! Made a line and scored a goal against TRF! Everyone had a blast--a good laugh and a lot of fun. GET ON THE ICE FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME. True sportsmanship. Why are they short now? They have plenty of athletes in TRF (ever watch their football team run onto the field--or do they dress 7th graders?).

Without the normal "home cookin" it would be Osseo 4 Warroad 1.
Looks like rams got it right - 3-1 Osseo.

hahahaha, I dont think thats it.. The TRF bball team is awful, They win one playoff game a year and they call it a great season. If the hockey team doesnt make it to the finals they are considered a failure. I think a lot has to do with kids from trf do not wanna put the time in.

TRF has good numbers in there youth program and have had very competitive teams the past few years. This year is clearly a rebuilding year with Tim behind the bench and very few upper classmen. I expect TRF to rebound and battle for the section title next season. TRF has had a nice run making 3 out of the last 4 section championship games and finally making it to state in 2005. The talent is cyclical. You can't replace a Forney, Bendeckson, or Holen every year. Some years you have to take your bumps and bruises with sophomores to have leaders emerge as Juniors and Seniors.

New predictions:

1. Warroad

2. EGF
3. PR
4. TRF
5. Bemidji
6. Crox
7. LOW
8. RLF
9. Kittson
10. Walker (will beat Bagley atleast once this year)
11. Bagley

I dont see anybody really able to compete with Warroad when it counts. Perhaps some team will step up there game but once again, it is Warroad's section to lose.

Physical play is how you will knock off PR. They are head cases when you take the body and will sit in the box often if provoked. Knapp, Tolle and McMorrow do not like being bumped off the puck, when you do they retaliate and sit.

PR will be top 4 in the section come seeding time but Warroad will man-handle them physically and take them out of the game mentally.

Finally able take a few minutes and update....last night Osseo 3 - Warroad 1 the difference in this one very simply put...goaltending. Shots 30 to 18 Warroad. Osseo had a good game plan and clogged the slot well. Saturday afternoon Osseo 8 Fargo North 2 Osseo wins the Holiday Hockey Classic after being outshot by Grafton 44 to 20 Grafton's goalie pulled himself Friday after spotting the Orioles to a 4 - 0 lead and losing 5 - 3 and being outshot by Warroad as previously stated. In the Late game Saturday for what turned out to be the second place game Warroad defeats Grafton 4 - 1 outshooting The Spoilers 34 to 19.

As we get set to usher in 2008 a short review of '07 is in order.

The Pirates are off to a 1-7-1 start but it was not unexpected considering their extreme youth on the blueline, lack of returning scoring from last year, and the transition to a new head coach this season. All is not doom and gloom in this camp as they will build and improve throughout Jan and Feb. Most likely they will be looking at a #6 or #7 seed come late Feb. Realistically they aren't going to rattle off three in a row at the Ralph but they could end a #2 or #3 seed's playoff run before it ever starts as they have the goaltending to pull it off for one evening.

11-27-07: Crookston 10, RLF 2
12-1-07: Crookston 2, Grand Forks Central 7, GFC has proven to be a quality team
12-7-07: Crookston 3, St. Paul Johnson 4 (OT), outshot in this one but could've pulled it out.
12-8-07: Crookston 1, Blake 5, went to the 3rd only down 3-1
12-13-07: Crookston 1, Fargo North 3, outshot but competed into the 3rd
12-18-07: Crookston 5, LOW 5, they let this one get away
12-27-07: Crookston 3, Virgina 6, allowed 5 goals in a six minute span during the 2nd
12-28-07: Crookston 0, Hermantown 9, all Hermantown
12-29-07: Crookston 2, St. Louis Park 3 (OT), let two goal lead get away

Games of Interest Coming Up
1/3 Bemidji, a win here would do a lot between the ears
1/8 @EGF, needs to prove they can compete with the upper tier of 8A
1/31 @TRF, needs to prove they can compete up at the Ralph
2/5 @Park Rapids, this one could mean a lot to Park if they are still perfect

Games I'm not feeling real good about
1/12 @Warroad
1/24 Roseau

Does anybody know what happened to the section8ahockey.com site? That guy did a great job of keeping track. As far as scoring goes, I'm sure Lehrke is near the top and then some smaller school guys like usual. And you can't forget Ravndalen.

Can PR run the table? I know there has been some discussion of this so I'll address it here.

After looking at this schedule, I'd have to say that 25-0 is possible, but not likely. 25 straight is tough, even if the opponents are at or near that triple digit ranking.

January
1/3 Northern Lakes (#114)
1/5 @Kittson Central (#116) weird things can happen in Hallock
1/10 Wadena-Deer Creek (#134)
1/15 @Northern Lakes (#114)
1/18 Lake of the Woods (#126)
1/22 Morris Area/Benson (#136)
1/24 Thief River Falls (#90) TR has played some good teams very well
1/29 @Detroit Lakes (#111)
1/31 @Red Lake Falls (#145)

February
2/1 Kittson Central (#116)
2/5 Crookston (#106)
2/8 @Morris Area/Benson (#136)
2/12 @Prairie Centre (#123)
2/15 @Mora (#97) the last out can be the toughest of the game

Boldface denotes where the loss could occur

There's always the possibility especially when a better team overlooks a team that they should beat.

It is sad that the person responsible for section8ahockey.com decided to hang up his skates. That site was great and he did an excellent job. The new site is very informative. Here is the correct link.

Ain't that the truth....my feeling is, they'll lose 1 game along the way to a team they should beat. Warroad will be tough in the finals after another barn burner with EGF in the semi's...

Yeah, we always had troubles up in Hallock. Played 4-5 games up there and all of 'em were close when they probably shouldn't have been...

Hallock is located in the 'Bermuda Triangle' of Hockey :!:

Bad things happen up there. 8)
