I thought Elliott70 made sense until I read T's post......I won't sleep tonight trying to solve this mystery!Twinnesota wrote:Well, that takes out most track events, too !!!elliott70 wrote:An old and good friend once told me the difference in sport and athletic event is that in sport you have the abiltiy (within the rules) to effect the outcome of your opponent or said another way to play defense.
AND singles tennis...which is mostly offense [ulness you just cover your face to stop a volley].
AND gymnastics...unless you are out there tripping your opponent.
AND individual swimming...unless you try to drown the other guy.
What a silly post !!!![]()

What little I know about curling, isn't there quite a bit of defense involved, with positioning your stones and knocking your opponents' out of the circles, etc.?Twinnesota wrote:What say we add curling?

Curling then would seem to qualify as a sport, more so than bowling!

So then by using Elliott's "defense" definition we can eliminate the NBA and NASCAR as sports.
Lets not forget most of the Olympic events (notice I didn't call them sports), both Summer and Winter. Not too much defense played in the luge, downhill skiing, speedskating, 100M dash, hurdles, decathalon, long jump, pole vault or on a bobsled
I'm glad they don't try to defend the javelin

Eliminating the NBA and Nascar would not hurt my feelings one bit.RSI wrote:So then by using Elliott's "defense" definition we can eliminate the NBA and NASCAR as sports.![]()

I personally went over there to check it out. The elevator now smells like Gopher excretion. Not one of the Fighting Sioux's prouder moments......northlandpro wrote:Sioux Rule wrote:Well stated, Pro.northlandpro wrote:Girls hockey is most certainly a sport and a much better use of icetime than figure skating which is banned in Roseau & Warroad.
Why thank you Sioux, have you cleaned out the elevator yet?
