willmar had 7 penalties and marshall had 4. 2 of marshall's came when they were on the powerplay so they didn't have a lot of time. pretty undisciplined on marshall's part. also, you still have to take care of the slugs of this world if you want to make it to the dance in march. losing to them is going to hurt you more than getting blown out by a good team. today's a huge game between willmar and hutch. hutch by 2 at home.Mr. Hockey wrote:I think the #1 seed is still up for grabs, today's game between Hutch and Willmar will be huge. If Willmar wins they still have a chance to be #1. In the two games against Marshall, Willmar pretty much beat them up and down the rink. Willmar has a hard time staying out of the box, but in the loss to Marshall I heard penalties were like 4 to 1 or something like that. While Marshall is beating up on the Redwood Falls and Worthingtons of world Willmar is playing pretty even hockey with the Fergus Falls, Little Falls and Brainerds. Willmar is improving so hang on, it will get interesting. Also, thank god Mankato West is out. WOW I heard Leverman is going to MSUM which I think is FANTASTIC!

Exactly. Willmar may have beat Marshall, but Marshall also beat them right before the tournament. Also, Litchfield didn't seem to have much trouble beating Willmar. I have no idea what all this hype is about Willmar. Marshall has a commanding lead in the section and unless New Ulm starts playing like they did at the beginning of the season, Marshall will take the section easily.sick_dangles08 wrote:A 7-1 loss to little falls isnt very even hockey... and the game they played against marshall in the tournament has no effect on the seedings. They have yet to win a game in section play, so i dont know how anyone can say anything about willmar getting the number one seed.

The first time Marshall and Willmar played, i don't think willmar dominated at all, it was a pretty even game(as the score showed until the final minutes of the game), and Marshall came out on top.
Anyone who witnessed the second marshall vs. willmar game in the tournament should have no question that Marshall didn't come to play, and although they weren't playing their best, the score was kept close until the third period.
They are a better team than they showed that day. Every team has games like that, such as New Ulm when they played Marshall. Even if NU had played to their ability i believe marshall would have come out on top, but we will see what happens when they play again before sections.
The upcoming game of Marshall vs. Litchfield is a well anticipated game because it will show generally where these two times lie in the section.

Re: score
Hutch outshot them by about 10. Willmar should have a lock on that number 5 seed which really is not a bad seed since they would be at home against number 12. They played their sophmore goalie today. He did ok made some mistakes, but will be pretty good in time. Their captain played today on a very sore ankle (probably should not have) was not very effective.stanryckman wrote:hutch 5-2 over willmar. anybody got any info on this game?? willmar's given up 12 goals since there tourney. i thought they had good goaltending?
WOW , MR Hockey happy about being the 5th seed in this section,, a sophomore goalie making mistakes in a pivital section game, just shows Willmar aint got anything in the nets to make a run at this . Oh they maybe able to upset one team along the way but to put together a string of good games to win the section, NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. . Now dont go telling me about the they won 3 games at the GREAT River Lakes invitational, because teams were not that good after Marshall

h2o; Mr. Hockey is just being realistic, and no I am not going to say the great "River Lakes" tournament means anything since Marshall and Willmar were the 2 best teams there. Willmar will have their hands full Saturday in New Ulm and I don't see them winning. Even if they would beat the Eagles I don't think that they can move up, as I mentioned in an earlier post the Hutch game was pivotal and they stunk. Again, hope for the 5 and see what happens in the playoffs.

That's a little harsh.fiveforfighting wrote:Willmar is a joke of a hockey team
It seems they are as good as anyone in 3A when they show up.
NU/Willmar will be interesting this week.
So will Marshall/Litch.
Everyone (at least the top 5 or 6) seems to be capable of beating anyone in this section. Let's hope they all get better before sections start.
