Hermantown v.s. Grand Rapids

Post by Indians forever »

Any thoughts on this game. I think it will be a barn burner. Hermantown coming off of a tough loss to I falls and Grand Rapids starting to get that playoff itch. Any thoughts.....................

Hermantown is getting better every game. They played well in the Falls even after a tough loss to Marshall. They will be ready for the challange.

This will be a one goal game.
Flip a coin for the winner.

The Hawks stayed within a goal of The Falls on Saturday so they should win this one easily.

Huh????? What in the world does that mean? The Class A Hermantown Hawks are a fine hockey club, but losing to the Class A Broncos does not mean they get an automatic W vs the AA Indians. I may have swallowed hook, line & sinker here, but you're off you're rocker with that type of thinking. I'm quite sure Hermantown will come in ready to play and it will for sure be a good game, but by no means are the Hawks a given in this one. I think GR will take this one 5-3.

That'll be the way to decide this one. T-Hawks over Hawks 3-2.
Ben Dover plays BOTH ways.

Hermantown vs. Grand Rapids

Post by hawkeynut08 »

Hermantown did play Grand Rapids back in 1979 Section 7 play offs. I don't remember if it was qtr or semi finals. In recent years they have played at the PWA and Bantam A level and games have been very exciting, wins and losses both ways.

Not sure about 1979. Also played in 1985 section playoffs, GR won 6-0 (give or take a goal).

Hermantown didn't stand a chance back then going through the Indians was like going through a brick wall... ](*,)

In '79, Rapids won 10-2 in the semifinals. They didn't play in the 1985 playoffs (Hibbing beat Hermantown in the semis that year)

Hibbing played Hermantown in '84...GR and Hermantown most definitely played in '85.

That '79 team from Rapids was the only GR team to go to state with an undefeated season. :)
They got beat on Thurs by Aarron and Butsy and Co. at The Civic Center. :(

Sorry, you're correct. I don't know about '85 with Rapids and Hermantown since my info only has starting with the quarterfinals so they must have played in an earlier round.

This is a project for somebody; to go one step farther than the Let's Play Hockey book and compile section tournament results for the earlier rounds.

Boblee:

Your link with the game preview states that Ryan Schmidt is at U.M.D. This is not true. Just an FYI...
