Not sure of the details, I wasn't there. Agreed, Monticello's penchant for many minutes in the box has not helped their cause this year.puckulence wrote:Was he DQ'd for the five penalty rule both times this player was out or did he get the major for checking from behind?? And if that is the case how is he still on the team if he spends that much time in the box? Seems to me Monti needs to play more hockey and spend less time trying to goon it up. But hey if they want to give out that many power plays I guess people here won't complain about it.zippy wrote:Monticello had a player disqualified in game one of the tournament, so he sat out game 2 and played game 3 against N.Metro. Problem was, he had a DQ earlier in the year already, so High School rules dictate he must sit out FOUR games for the second DQ. He didn't play in Monti's poor effort against STMA & he will miss their next loss to Buffalo.

The winner of this conference IMO will be decided on 1/24/08 when Rogers and Buffalo square of at the Buffalo Civic center.
They tied yet again in their 1st meeting this year, and it doesn't appear that any other M8 team will factor into it at this point.
Of their last 4 meetings since 05/06 there has been 3 ties, and a Buffalo win in OT 3-2
Rogers has settled into it's lines, and are playing better team hockey as of late.
You can't get a better conference battle then this, and I look for this to be the best match up between the two rivals yet.
Buffalo has the home advantage, so this most likely won't be as one sided on the penalties as the last game.
For the fans it's a great place to watch hockey...except the music man

There is no doubt that this game (Rogers vs Buffalo) has turned into a rivalry game quickly. Is it on a par with Grand Rapids vs Duluth East...heck no...but it doesn't get any better then this in the M8 and throughout the NW suburbs. Both teams normally have a couple elite type players, decent goaltending and play extremely hard. I think Buffalo has most times been the slight favorites but Rogers ALWAYS plays well against the Bison. The Royals always have a role player or two step up with a big goal as well.
Obviously, the Bison will concern themselves with solving the Jensen, Scatterelli defensive pairing...which BTW is one of the best defensive pairing in the state. Rogers will try and contain a couple young but skilled and fast Bison forwards while trying to penetrate a fairly solid Bison defense. Bison goaltending probably gets a slight edge but Zitur has suffered some injuries that limit his effectiveness....although the Bison do have a solid back up returning to the team Jan 19th...
Honestly, from my perspective I like the Royals style of play much better than the Bison...The Royals are always on the attack and rely on their defensemen to cover up any forechecking mistakes. The Bison on the other hand lay back in a 2/3 forecheck most of the time which limits the effectiveness of some their skilled players. They play a very defensive style that is designed to keep them in games instead of winning them and like i said limits the creativity of the team as a whole and especially thse guys who can create plays.
Believe me, I am not questioning the coaching...just giving an opinion..but I do think if Buffalo implemented a couple different forechecks they would be more effective but maybe our guys aren't capable of handling it...
On a positive note the Bison have eliminated taking unwise penalties:)

There is no doubt both teams will be better when they meet in a couple week then when they first played this year. I expect a very physical game with high intensity from the drop of the puck. I expect there is be a winner in this meeting for the first time in awhile.HOFam'r wrote:There is no doubt that this game (Rogers vs Buffalo) has turned into a rivalry game quickly. With the Royals getting their lines figured out and getting production from all of them they will offer more of a challenge to the Buffalo defense and goalie this time around. And with Scatterelli zoned back in and not back from injury he will definitely be more of a factor this game. Not to mention rogers had relied heavily on their second set of D as well and they are playing top notch hockey as of late. Although rogers competition hasn't been the best as of late they have not allowed a goal in the previous two contests.
My only question about this game is why is this not being covered by FSN? It is a rivalry game that will decide the winner of the M8 conference and both teams have some elite players. But at least we don't have to see the John Madden of FSN in Kevin Gorg.

I agree shutting out CI and Princeton are not that big of a deal. As far as Scatterelli goes, yes he is healthy now. So you have him and Jensen playing the offensive style D, and pity the players that try and get thru those other two D they just punish fwds in a defensive style of play.puckulence wrote:There is no doubt both teams will be better when they meet in a couple week then when they first played this year. The next 3 games are Conf. games against STMA, BBL, and Monty so not exactly a tough road on the way to Buffalo.
FSN ummm..... it'd be nice for the boys and fans, but the M8 is going to be hard pressed to ever see that happen...outside of Buffalo getting their shot with some of the northern teams. Maybe next year for Rogers????

If it helps,
I heard Rogers stole all of HOF's secret recipes for that pot luck food that brought FSN back there this year...plus Rogers is in a great location

at least it would be a close game unlike the FSN games they have shown this year where most of them end up being blow outs. but the point is taken CNT that the M8 won't get a conference game on there, it is simply sad that edina gets 4 of their games this year on FSN they need to spread the wealth to other teams.

Well until one the other M8 teams plays a tough schedule and smacks one of the big boys in the chin, things probably won't change.puckulence wrote:at least it would be a close game unlike the FSN games they have shown this year where most of them end up being blow outs. but the point is taken CNT that the M8 won't get a conference game on there, it is simply sad that edina gets 4 of their games this year on FSN they need to spread the wealth to other teams.

Majority of hockey fans in the State would rather watch a title contender (Edina) than a #4 seed in 5AA go against a #3 seed in 8AA. They just won't make it on FSN.puckulence wrote:at least it would be a close game unlike the FSN games they have shown this year where most of them end up being blow outs. but the point is taken CNT that the M8 won't get a conference game on there, it is simply sad that edina gets 4 of their games this year on FSN they need to spread the wealth to other teams.

Section 5AA
Correction EREmpire, #7 Seed in 5AA. Centennial, Blaine, Maple Grove, Osseo, Champlin Park and Coon Rapids all are ahead of Rogers. This will not change no matter how many M8 games they win or lose from this point forward. A Blaine and Rogers rematch in the quarters is what it looks like, I don't forsee an outcry for R
gers on FSN any time soon.

BTW...Have seen any Monti lips flapping on the 'bored' this season...not much other than untimely penalties and injury reports. Last season brought a nice crowd to the Moose but this season those fans have not had much to cheer about and have trickled away from the arena...and by the looks of it Monti will be down for years to come....

Monti will be a factor again two years from now, they have a great group of Bantam A's right now (only 1 loss so far this year). Last year was a great step forward for the program (first winning season in 18 years of the program) and with the new arena two years old now, interest in younger ages is up. This year and the following two will be tough, but Monti should produce quality teams beyond that (hopefully, as last year was a blast with the great games against Rogers and Buffalo).HOFam'r wrote:BTW...Have seen any Monti lips flapping on the 'bored' this season...not much other than untimely penalties and injury reports. If Buffalo can play under control (stay out of the box) they should be able to take Rogers in their next meeting (for the M8 crown), but it will probably be a close one again. Should be fun to watch!

Rogers beat STMA tonight 6-0 ...ok so what...but they broke out there new Jerseys tonight, and they are really sweet.. a totally new look, Black and White with a R/R on the front with the matching Black socks and a double white stripe.
Nice job whoever put it together.......very classy look, and the best part is no one knew it was going to happen, so it was a pleasant surprise when they came on the ice after warm-ups in a complete uniform change!
Very cool

They needed it...old Jersey's were a bore...nice win Buffalo matches it at 6-0 over Monti...next for Bison is Number One Roseau...yikes...however the speed of that game should help Bison against Rogers...Can't Never Tried wrote:Rogers beat STMA tonight 6-0 ...ok so what...but they broke out there new Jerseys tonight, and they are really sweet.. a totally new look, Black and White with a R/R on the front with the matching Black socks and a double white stripe.

Kessler and Varness
It looked like the whole STMA team took the night off. They came out flat and Rogers beat them to all loose pucks and won the battels. Turnquist did not have a good game either and they need him to be on or they get beat. Rogers is much more skilled and worked harder. It was over after the first period. STMA has injuries and suffered two more last night which will hurt them moving ahead. They had their chance last night to move into first place and laid an egg. They never had a decent chance to score on their old goalie Heskins either. He was never really challenge.

Re: Kessler and Varness
As lame as this may seem you could feel the wind come out of STMA's sail as soon as rogers hit the ice in their new jersey's. It was a perfect ploy to play some mind games with a team before the game even starts. Warm up in the home whites and come out in all black. Rogers looked very sharp and defensively were very impressive.gabby wrote:It looked like the whole STMA team took the night off. I think HOF brought this up before, but unless the level of competition in this conference improves, and I don't see this happening anytime soon, Rogers and Buffalo should go to a schedule of only playing each conference team once, except for each other, those 2 could continue to play twice.
The conference is good for other sports so you don't want to vacate it.
For Rogers this repeated schedule of playing conference teams they both (BUf and R/Z) take to running time, does nothing for either the winners or the losers, I mean c'mon 10-0 against BBL and Jensen wasn't even playing!
One problem is, that when you play these teams you change your game plan, be it lines, playing JV players, etc. so you don't run up the score, and also it doesn't help you be prepared for tougher opponents or post season play IMO.
The other problem with this is, that by continuing to beat up on these lesser talented teams ( No offense ) is they gain no respect from other teams, that may take them on their non-conference schedule.
I'd really like to see Rogers play a tougher schedule then the conference schedule allows at this point.
This year was a great improvement over past years for Rogers, adding Armstrong, Maple Grove, Minnetonka, Hopkins, and Osseo, so it's heading in the right direction, now just get Blaine, or Centennial, instead of Waseca
and play some more section 4,6,7, & 8 AA teams instead of BBL STMA, Princeton, and in the case of this year... you can throw Monticello, and Cambridge in their as well for a 2nd time each, and it would do wonders for the program.
Sure if they did this they may only be a .500 team but they'll be a lot better team overall.

Bravo...Last season was the exception...this season is the rule. Nothing against any conference teams but Buffalo schedule is very weak and other then the Rogers game we have a very weak schedule till Feb.Can't Never Tried wrote:I think HOF brought this up before, but unless the level of competition in this conference improves, and I don't see this happening anytime soon, Rogers and Buffalo should go to a schedule of only playing each conference team once, except for each other, those 2 could continue to play twice.
