UPDATED odds against reaching the State Tournament

Post by O-townClown »

With more games in the book it is getting easier to sort some of these teams.

SECTION 1

2:1 Mayo
4:1 Lakeville N
4:1 Lakeville S
4:1 Owatonna

Disappointing play by North causes me to remove them and install Mayo as the favorite of this wide-open section.

SECTION 2

2:3 Edina
4:1 Burnsville
5:1 Jefferson
9:1 Holy Angels

AHA has fallen from 3:1 at preseason, 6:1 on the last update, and now 9:1. Seedings are important and it looks like they will face Edina in one Semi and Jefferson and Burnsville could meet in the other. Sure to be as good as any Round of 32 game in the state this year.

SECTION 3

5:2 Woodbury
3:1 Eastview
3:1 Rosemount
5:1 C-DH
15:1 Eagan
20:1 Hastings
25:1 Apple Valley

Round of 64 games in this section should be thrillers.

SECTION 4

2:3 Hill-Murray
4:1 Roseville
5:1 White Bear Lake
20:1 Tartan
25:1 Stillwater
35:1 Mounds View

Reports of the Bears demise were premature and exaggerated. Hill-Murray will be favored, but they won't be conceded the Section final.

SECTION 5

3:2 Centennial
2:1 Blaine
7:1 Osseo
10:1 Maple Grove

This has remained a two-horse race, but the lurker is now Osseo. I had them at 100:1 preseason. My feeling is that Centennial is turning a corner and will play strong down the stretch.

SECTION 6

7:4 Minnetonka
7:4 Benilde-St. Margaret's
4:1 Eden Prairie
7:1 Hopkins
15:1 Wayzata

The state's toughest section. Hopkins is about to come down to earth. Two games with Edina and another with Minnetonka await. I don't see them beating Wayzata twice either.

SECTION 7

3:1 Duluth East
4:1 Cloquet
9:2 Grand Rapids
7:1 Anoka
20:1 Elk River
20:1 Forest Lake
30:1 Andover

The state's deepest section. Any team that manages to play well for the week in late February can emerge.

SECTION 8

3:7 Roseau
4:1 Moorhead
20:1 Buffalo
20:1 Brainerd

These odds have not changed since Day One.

Hard to argue strongly against your view at this juncture. Good post!

They should have changed.

Roseau
Easily still the odds on favorite. Could change as they have a 2nd game with Moorhead coming up, and they also make the trip down to Brainerd Feb. 2nd.

Moorhead
Tough schedule thus far, and continues to be tough. They will be battle tested come playoffs. Odds are pretty close at 4:1.

Brainerd
Give Brainerd some credit, they have some quality wins(Rosemount, Cloquet, CDH), and tied Moorhead. Could be 16-3-1(At worst 14-5-1) going into game against Roseau. 20:1 doesn't fit.

Buffalo
What have they done? Lost to the teams they should have lost to, and beat the teams they should have beat. Deserving of the #4 seed, but not the 20:1 odds you give them.

This would be closer.
3:7 Roseau
4:1 Moorhead
7:1 Brainerd
50:1 Buffalo

This is a 3-horse race until Buffalo proves they deserve to be mentioned with these 3.
When Hell freezes over, I'll play hockey there too

I agree with this 100% Brainerd is a contender and deserves to be mentioned with the top three. Buffalo... not so much.

You do understand that Roseau is section 8A and the others are 8AA?

Roseau, Alex, Crookston, and Warroad will be battling for 8A.

Without a doubt Brainerd has a good chance this year too bad is poor timing for them with the Rams on top of Minnesota hockey. If this was the Roseau team 3 years ago I would pick Brainerd. Disappointing I'd love to see the warriors make it to St. Paul.

Number 1: Horrible typing skills

Number 2: I also believe that CP should have better odds than Blaine and MG, but you must remember CP still has to play Anoka twice, and each of the other three teams again (Blaine, Osseo, MG). With a 6-3 loss to Osseo (and Osseo is on an absolute tear, what is it 7 game winning streak now?) and CP only beating Blaine 2-1 and MG 5-4 in OT, the Rebels are not going to get the nod over any of those teams. Not to mention a big loss to Centennial.

Although, I must say I have full faith in CP pulling it off. They will just have to do it out of the public eye. Right where they want to be.

You're right...I hadn't noticed that Osseo has a 7 game winning streak! I never considered them very good in the past. I wonder what changed...might have been me!
They definitely need to be considered a threat to the other teams.
