2008 Tier 1 AAA Regional Championship Tournament

Post by AAATourney »

Gauging to see what the interest level would be if there was a Tier 1 AAA Regional Championship Tournament. The proposed tournament would be sponsored by a Twin City based Fortune 500 company and be held in the Twin Cities the second week in September.

Teams would consist of Tier 1 programs from Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Illinois and Michigan and would include age ranges from '95 to '98.

The tournament objective is to bring the best-of-the-best Tier 1 AAA teams and to crown the regional champion. This would become an annual event.

Thoughts please -

There is no Tier 1 hockey in Minnesota. Summer AAA is not Tier 1.

This tournament already takes place..it's called the Nke/Bauer Invite.
It has the creme-de-la-creme of teams in the AAA world all convene in Chicago in early October for what is highly regarded as the #1 in season AAA tournament. The Toronto Prospects in May is the second AAA tournament that is highly touted as the best of the best.

You can add the Toronto Marlie Tournament during Boxing Week and the Silver Stick to that list...

I believe that the '93 FIRE went to the Marlie tournament this year and I am sure that the '94 and '95 FIRE went to the Silver Stick.

FYI - '95 FIRE placed 2nd in Chicago Nike/Bauer in October and was a Semi-Finalist at the Silver Stick last weekend....last check '95 FIRE are ranked #2 in USA AAA Tier I, ' 94 are #13 in USA, '93 are #13 and the '96 are #6.

Also Shattuck Tier I '93 is rated #10

Are you talking the Bloomington Silver Stick? I don't believe that is what it once was.

No he's talking about the Silver Stick in Whitby(Toronto) for minor Bantams and minor Peewees and Silver Stick in Sarnia Ontario. The Bloomington tournament used to be a qualifier for the REAL silversticks.

Steelheader is correct - the Bloomington tournament was merely a "regional qualifier" for the Silver Stick in Port Huron.
