Time to bring this to the top. Your top five and frontrunner speculation? Anyone missing from the list? Criteria includes classroom and community service as well as on-ice leadership and performance; things we're not all privy to but we can recognize the players we've seen do well anyway...
(compiled from ghshockeyfan's 2008 All Star Team thread; remember T-Bred and SSM are excluded from this award):
G:
ALI ALTMAN
MICHELLE BONAPACE-POTVIN
MADDIE BURKE
CASSIE CARPENTIER
DAEDRA CULSHAW
KATE GALLAGHER
ALYSSA GROGAN
EMILY HANNINEN
NIKKI HARALSON
LAUREN HERZOG
KARI HUNTER
DANIELLE JUSTICE
LEA JONDAHL
NIKKI KASSA
EMILY KLATT
MADELINE LENZ
SINEAD MURPHY
MORGAN PIEPER
CLAIRE RICHARDS
OTHERS?
One goalie's credentials seems to stand out among the others which might make this less of a horse race than Ms. Hockey, but there's no automatics. Time to recognize the great senior performers.

I'd probably put Devon Alwin from Hastings on the list too. Every time I have seen her play she has come through. She has like a 1.3 GAA and look at her shot numbers they are usually 20+. I wasn't expecting much at first, changed my mind after I saw her play. Probably would take Jondahl off the list. Has like a 3.3 GAA and IMO will not have even played enough MN hockey to get consideration. I think you put together a pretty solid list. As far as individuals go, I know most of these players and they are all really good kids. It's nice to be able to say that about a whole group of kids.
yes I am and always will be! .BCGHockey wrote:Media are you just a little bias with the kids from the North and players that have attended your summer camp? Justice is in the top 10 IMO not sure if she is top 5.
Top 5 IMO
Grogan (eagan)
Altmann (eagan)
Haralson (wayzata)
Hunter (bloom. kennedy)
Richards (richfield)
Justice.. 0.70 GAA 0.965 SAVE% 876:15 Minutes 6 shutouts
Which includesa shutout of Breck.. we will see if the almighty Grogan records a shutout against breck on tuesday... I mean, she is the best right? Breck also had 40+ shots against alex as well..
and stcloud tech has played two more games as well..

I understand where you are coming from... I was only trying to show that there are some good goalies out there other than the usual Grogan, Altman, Justice, etc... Just to show Kaasa can play in all situations then: Examples of games where team dominated: Little Falls, 14 shots, 0 goals. Sartell-Sauk Rapids, 19 shots, 0 goals. Centennial, 25 shots, 0 goals. St. Cloud Icebreakers, 11 shots, 0 goals. Close games: North Wright County, 35 shots, 0 goals. Alexandria, 53 shots, 1 goal. St. Cloud Icebreakers, 28 shots, 1 goal. Other examples: Fergus Falls, 32 shots, 0 goals. Moorhead, 57 shots, 4 goals.

!
QuinUD1, I understand where you are coming from. This is not different from a forward who setup play after play, backchecks, prevents goals etc...or a stay at home D who does not get a lot of points but has a great +/- and is your golies best ally.
Bottom-line is they have to figure out how to get noticed on and off the ice. Competition is fierce and not always fair you have to go get it!

Wasn't trying to say it wasn't fair at all, after all, nothing's fair in this world. hahahahatwowayplay wrote:

I beg to differ here, I've seen all of these goalies, and while all are very good I'd agree with BCGHOCKEY's list, or at least close to it. Except I'd put Justice ahead of Richards, and even with Hunter.mnhcky23 wrote:I'm with Media on this one...Justice should be after Grogan on your list

I have seen almost everyone on the list as well. I would place Justice above Haralson and maybe even with Altmann. Grogan is also at the top of my list.hockeyrube7 wrote:I beg to differ here, I've seen all of these goalies, and while all are very good I'd agree with BCGHOCKEY's list, or at least close to it. are you kidding me polars? She held one of the most potent offensives in the state (Grand Rapids-Greenway) to one goal, which came in overtime. It was actualyl someone from like their third line that scored. Another example, Roseau, another offensive team.... one goal allowed! You need to be quiet..
Alex's schedule is just as hard as any other class A school.

Justice is one of the best goalies in the state, if not the best. I have seen her play 4 times and each time she has impressed me. It appears that she inspires her team from the nets.
Alex has improved their SOS this year and it will pay off at state. I wish there was a way to improve our SOS, 20 required conference games kill you.

M Goalie
The best goalie I have seen this year is Lenz. Beat Stillwater last night, tied Roseville, Shut out Hastings, Beat Centennial, Cretin, Blaine. Her team is rising in the ranks because of her play. The Ponies threw everything they had at her in the 2nd last night and left the ice slamming their sticks in frustration. In the 3rd they looked as though they were so fustrated they had no emotion left. She did the same thing to Roseville. Right now 1.83 GAA .935% 511 shots faced 915 minutes. I think she was also one of the winning goalies at Junior fest.. Probably one of the toughest schedules in the state. 8 of their opponents are in the top 20 LPH. Of those 8, 3 of them are in the SEC. Ask any coach who has faced her. She is my number one pick. Grogan? She's only seen about 170 shots all year. Was shakey in her last game. I can't even think she qualifies. I do like Justice's numbers and Kassa has been strong ever time I see her. I think Peiper does a nice job too. I like the Blue Collar goalies who have to work for every save when their team has no superstars.
