Top 102 in Minnesota

Post by HornetDad99 »

I know this is a crazy question, but does anyone have an idea on the Top 102 kids that go to St. Cloud. It can be in order or not.

Are you talking about Select 15's?

Last year's participants?

This year, names are jsut being submitted now for the district team tryouts. Approximately 40 per district (12 = 480 kids). Then you have the inter-district games to determine bracket and pool teams. Then the April festival at New Hope.

Then the tabulation of the evaluators and the selection of the St Cloud kids.

Here's a bunch of them. USHL just posted their USA 93 Scouting report:

http://www.ushl.com/centralscouting/DraftListUSA93.cfm

Looks like their are about 40 MN kids on the list. Good chance most of these kids will be in the final 102 and beyond.

its a wonder why people are leaving association hockey look at the list its a huge advantage to play triple A.. they needed to take six kids from the fire? i just watched the team play and to think they had six of the top 93 in the state seems a huge stretch. the only association i seen were the big ones theirs no 93's north of st. cloud? is this the complete list and how are these kids picked. looks like a political nightmare.

Dog...
This is just a preliminary scouting report for USHL league...
Really has nothing to do with anything of the Select 15 (quality kids, yes; definitive list, no).

Watcher, I'm not sure you know what you are looking at. This is a list of kids the USHL has scouted that are still Bantams. How many of the TPH Thunder players are ultimately going to play USHL? They must have 6 or 7 listed.

If your point is that a player has a better chance of being on this list if they are playing for the Fire than if they play association hockey in Minnesota, YES, that is correct.

If you take it a step further and assume a player from Hoyt Lakes needs to play for a AAA program like the Fire or Shattuck to ultimately play in the USHL, NO. If they are good enough they can make it to the USHL by age 18 with or without Tier I AAA hockey. Look at how many kids play USHL now from cities in Northern Minnesota.

Nobody's ultimate goal should be to show up on this list. I know some of the kids on the list and they are simply decent Florida kids on some of the better teams. The USHL scouts saw them while they do not see a same-age kid from Babbitt.
Be kind. Rewind.

i beleive i follow you o town. as for an ultimate goal for my kids i doubt they know this sort of thing exsists. i just thought it was odd that their is such a list with such limited resources. its like only taking the flys that are buzzing around the bug zapper and leaving all the ones in the barn.

The USHL sets a pretty good trap...
they manage to find the biggest, juiciest flies...
whether they are in the kitchen, the barn, or buzzing around the pile out in the cow pasture.

I agree with Elliott. Don't kid yourself Dog. The USHL guys know the talent. If it is up north they will find it. They found a good chunk of it around the cities...

The reason there aren't any northern kids on the list is that there isn't any northern MN USHL teams. It makes it awfully hard to scout when the closest team is 6 hours away. Once Fargo starts next season, I guarentee Coach Blais (northern boy) will have northern MN players on his list. He will be able to cross the river and watch anybody that plays Moorhead whenever he wants.

top shelf i will reserve comment at this time for further review. i only know some of these kids and i can see some very questionable selections. as my kids have played summer hockey at the 94 and 95 levels for many years ill beable to have a much better view point the next two years. than ill see if its 3/4,1/2 or a quarter bulls@#$. as for scouting if i was in the business of putting a good team together id be driving every place worth looking 6 hours would'nt stop me.

Believe me, they will. But they only take a few 16 year olds, a few more 17s, then 18s and 19s. They have their Tier I quotas to make at each age level, but they are not going out of their way to take younger kids as thye still need to win to help fill the seats so they can MAKE MONEY.

So before a kid graduates they know if they want them drafted or if missed, invited to a try-out or trade for him...
Even the kids drafted do not always make the 25(?) man roster.

If your kid is good, they will see him...

In general I can't disagree with you Watchdog. Your points are fair.

Only thing I would say is that my kids are 92 and 93 so I know a lot of the kids on the list and the it looks pretty close for those years as far as kids from St. Cloud and south (bet they got 99% here). Don't know if they looked at the kids north but they will. They even said this list is the start. I don't know the kids up north either so I can't comment. One of my kids made the list and one didn't so I think I am pretty objective.

As far as the credibility of the scouts I think the free market determines that. If these guys dont' get it right they will be looking for new jobs...:) I think they are pretty darn close from St. Cloud south.

Most important point is that a lot changes between now and the time these kids are really in the zone to play in the USHL in the next few years.
