From Brainerd Dispatch:
Grand Rapids rallies, BHS loses
BOYS' HOCKEY
By MIKE BIALKA
Sports Editor
It doesn't matter what year it is or who's wearing the orange and black uniforms of the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks.
They have one of the top boys' hockey programs in Minnesota, year in and year out.
With a 2-1-1 record in their first four games, and after graduating standouts like Patrick White, Joe Stejskal and Reidar Jensen, some thought this might be a down year for a team that has finished second in the last two Class 2A state tournaments.
That doesn't appear to be the case after Tuesday night's 6-2 victory over the Brainerd Warriors before a full house at Brainerd Area Civic Center.
Rapids appears to still possess plenty of skill, solid defense and good goaltending as it handed the Warriors their first loss. Brainerd also remained winless in 11 games in the series (there have been two ties).

"I know our kids were excited to play," Warriors coach Ty Eigner said. "We didn't have to give any speeches. I thought our kids responded. We gave up a power-play goal early, then came back and played really well. I think Grand Rapids went in and talked to their guys and said, 'OK, we've got to come out harder' (in the second).
"There's no secret what makes them good. They play hard, they play smart. When you turn pucks over and don't do the little things they're going to capitalize. They've done that as long as I've played against them. You've got to give them credit for sticking to their game plan, and taking us out of ours."
Trailing 2-1, the Thunderhawks buzzed around the rink in the second period, scoring twice in the first 2:25, three times in all, and firing 12 shots to Brainerd's four.
Tony Palkki scored at 1:04 of the second, taking a perfect feed from Jack Moore and banging it past Warriors goalie Reid Mimmack.
A little more than a minute later, Shane Greniger scored on a rebound that went off Mimmack.

Robb Roy put Rapids ahead 4-2 as he deked Mimmack to the left and flicked a backhand behind him with 8.9 seconds left in the second.
"The one that was really unfortunate was the fourth one," Eigner said. "When it's 3-2 it's a heck of a lot different than 4-2, especially when they score with 8-some seconds left. That was pretty frustrating."
Third-period goals by Corey Kosak and Robb Roy closed out the scoring for Rapids.
After a power-play goal by the Thunderhawks' Sam Rendle in the first, the Warriors seized a 2-1 edge on goals by a pair of defensemen.
Luke Swanson scorched a slap shot from the point that got past Grand Rapids goalie A.J. Underwood at 8:42.
Grand Rapids 6, BHS 2
The key: Trailing 2-1, the Thunderhawks scored five unanswered goals.
Overall: Brd 3-1-0, GR 3-1-1
Next: Sartell at Brainerd 7 p.m. Thursday.
Drew Olson followed at 12:28 with a power-play laser from the left circle.
"We were up 2-1 and feeling good," Eigner said. "That was probably as good as we've played in a period. Even though they scored three in the second it wasn't like they spent the whole period in our end and our goaltender was making save after save."
