Centennial (8-4-2) @ Anoka (10-4) 1-19-08

Both teams tied at 7-1 for the conference lead, both playing games Thursday they should win. Centennial won the first meeting 6-2 early in the season at home.

Centennial should come out on top of this one. JD Wells will once again not be able to handle Pitlick and company, and Hanna will do just fine against Anoka's first line. Although I would enjoy seeing Anoka win to make the conference interesting.

This will be a great game. Both teams won tonight. I wonder if govs will come. Better reserve a parking spot. Standing room only.

Whats the deal with Anoka? They are definentely a good team, with a good goalie. JD is a little shakey at times, but solid. There D are a bit slow but talented. But thats beside the point. All 3 times I have seen them this year, Belisle has stood out, and O'Neill hangs out in the shadows. I dub Belisle the best player on this team, and it seems John is taking a bit of a nap before his run at UMD.

Centennial has beaten a few conference bottom feeders and CP in the last 4 games by a combined score of 34-5. They'll have to kick it up a notch (or two) against Anoka. I agree that Anoka is an enigma this year. The talent is there but????

Anoka's stepped in the right direction the past few games. I see them surprising a few people in this one also.

Cory Belisle is a great player (129 career points in 3.5 years) and is having a great year, so is Berkley Scott for that matter (81 career points in 2.5 years)...and nobody is more happy about it than John O'Neill (115 career points in 2.5 years).

MNGreatest #2...if scoring 28 points in the Elite League in 18 games...and 28 points (to date) in 14 HS season games is taking a nap...then I guess John is taking a nap :D

Come on man give me some credit. I did say that is what I saw in the 3 games I have seen Anoka play. I didnt use any stats or generalize anything. No reason to get all defensive. I wonder if John likes you as much as you like him?

NW Sub Race

Post by hockey59 »

As I've noted previously...the NW Suburban Conf is a 3 horse race this year...Anoka, Blaine & Centennial...and as the conf. record of these 3 teams currently shows...with 1/2 the conf. season still remaining... any of these 3 teams can still win it.

Watched Anoka take on Osseo last Saturday, 12th. Berkley Scott played very well as did did Cory Belisle, John O'neill played ok, not as big of a factor as the others but hes someone to always keep an eye on when hes on the ice.

How was this game...was it a blowout early, or did Anoka pull away late? What were the shots?

Either way, this is a huge win for Anoka and sets up a huge 7AA meeting with Rapids next weekend.

I would have to say that Anoka dominated most of the game. Anoka was up 4-1 after the 2nd period. Centennial tied it up in the 3rd, in Centennial fashion, but Anoka got that 5th goal and didn't look back!

It was a fun game to watch and great to see Anoka play a full game! Let's hope that Anoka continues with the strong play!

Sorry can't remember shots on goal.

Actually I would have to say Centennial dominated play! Centennial spent quite a bit more time in the Anoka zone than Anoka did in the Centennial zone. But Anoka made the most of their shots. Strand let in two week ones that should have been stopped and then there was the empty netter in the end. I didn't hear the final shots on goal, but after two I remember hearing Centennial having quite a few more than Anoka. Anoka is in control of the NWSC now! I'd have to say they will take the NWSC. But there still are eight more conference games to go!

Shots on goal...Anoka 26, Centennial 30.

We could go back and forth all day long about who dominated the game, who let in weak goals, etc., but regardless of what you or I think Anoka did come out on top and it was a huge win for Anoka! I think the last time Anoka varsity beat Centennial was in 1996 (don't quote me on that though!). Anoka is in control of the NWSC as you said and they should take the NWSC, which they will if they continue to play as a team and to their ability not the ability of their opponents!!

hockey 59 what is the obsession with Blaine? I would be more happy if you said the conference was a two horse race between centennial and anoka. Blaine is 6-3 in the conference i believe and have yet to play CP, anoka, and centennial

I agree with rbk28, Blaine is not close to Anoka and Centennial. Blaine seems to be getting a lot of credit for being good last year but you have to remember they don't have the same scoring punch of Lynch and Baudette. I don't think they have enough depth to score enough and their defense is not great.

Carpenterguy & Neutron 14

Post by hockey59 »

carpenterguy quote from Dec 9th (after Cent. beat Anoka 6-2)

"Anoka will struggle to go deep in the playoffs. Centennial played 3 and sometimes four lines last night. It's tough to tell the difference between their lines. Anoka had a couple of good players but after that the talent really drops off. They played two lines most of the night. Anoka didn't sustain any pressure until halfway through the second period. Time of possession had to be 90% Centennial. They were clearly the deeper and better team. If anything the shots made it look closer than the game actually was".

Neutron 14 quote from Dec 9th:

"Which I think is really stupid and shortsighted in December. I noticed Aus didn't care, kept his 1,2,3 going. 4th line didn't see the ice until late".

The silence from YOU TWO has been deafening since Anoka's 7-4 win over Centennial on Jan 19th...I wonder how many lines Aus rolled when Centennial trailed 4-1?...or 6-4?

I know Strand has got some recognition from geocities, even tho he backs up Hanna, but he has contributed to both of Centennial's conference losses. (Maple Grove then Anoka.) Just thought I should point that out.

hockey59: My assessment of the game I WATCHED was right on. Do you disagree with my assessment of the first game?

Secondly, I wasn't at the game on Saturday, so it would be irresponsible of me to comment on it.

Third, congratulations on the win, and good luck the rest of the way!
