St Thomas (14-3) @ Minnetonka (15-2) 1-22-08

Post by HShockeywatcher »

With only two quality opponents remaining on their schedule, St Thomas could use this win for respect and possibly seeding at State. Minnetonka's been playing quality hockey and by comparing quality opponents should have this one in the bag. That being said, since they started playing 3 years ago they are 0-2-1 against St Thomas (if my memory serves me correctly).

Should be a great game. Not only a class battle, but competition of the winner of the Silver and Gold Schwan Cups.

I'm going with Tonka 4-1, they've been playing too good lately.

After seeing STA against Marshall I would have to say Tonka in running time.

Read the title, it's at Minnetonka, Pagel Activity Center to be exact.

You can just as easily compare when they played Benilde and say that STA should win. For whatever reason St Thomas has matched up well with these guys over the years. Should be a good game.

Both teams are extremely talented offensively and defensively, and have been playing well all year. Minnetonka has been snakebit against these guys since the series started a few years back but i feel this is the year they break the losing streak. The first line of Coatta, Giel, and Prochno have been on fire since they were put together a few games back and i see them continuing their dominance at home. St. thomas' first line will be tough to handle as well so good defensive play on Minnetonka will be necessary to keep them in check. I'll say 4-3 Tonka in the second of four consecutive games for the skippers against elite teams.

6-4 St. Thomas in a wide open no defense (all think they are forwards) game

Because no one respects them? Don't you have to make it to State before you get seeded?
Don't count your chickens yet, Crotcher.

Tonka-6
STA- 3
....Can't thank you enough for the time.

I'm not counting anything before it happens. Just saying that if they make it and Marshall makes it out of a loaded 7A, this game will have a lot to do with them possibly getting the #1 seeding.

That being said, who in 4A do you see having any shot at St Thomas? I see the back up goalies possibly playing at least 2 of the section games, if not all three.

My big point of this is that Tonka can lose this game and has enough left on their schedule to help them out come the post season. St Thomas doesn't. St Thomas is the underdog here for sure, just hoping things can stay as they have the last few years.

how could anyone justify seeding STA ahead of DM after the complete whooping that the Toppers put on the Tommies???

That would be just plain Image

I wasn't at the game so I cannot comment. From posters who were they said St Thomas' goalie had a bad game and Marshall had a good game. One game doesn't make a season.

Just look at the PR thread. People on this bored are thinking of ranking teams they've beaten higher than them.

If St Thomas can beat both Hill and Tonka (DM lost to Tonka) and DM loses more than 1 of their remaining games, St Thomas could get the #1. Either way they'd meet in the final and I like their away sweaters better, so #2 is fine by me. 8)

Final

5-2 Tonka

1st
4:45 (Tonka) J Gardiner, M Gardiner
9:35 (STA) Rooney from Walters, Saintey
9:49 (Tonka) Coatta from Pronchno, Giel
14:35 (Tonka) M Gardiner from J Gardiner, Hanson

2nd
0:58 (STA) Schreinder from Rooney, Saintey

3rd
1:18 (Tonka) Erhart from Jensen, Lundquist
11:12 (Tonka) M Gardiner from Goebel

Kurt Altrichter in net for STA, not sure about Tonka
Anyone with shots?

Sounded like a good game. Hopefully St Thomas will be asked to play in the Gold Division next year. If they can at least win one with Edina, Minnetonka should get at least #2 seed if they make it to state.

Shots: STA 28, Tonka 27

It was not the goalies fault that STA was put into running time. DM was the better team all around and to top it off, they barely lost to Tonka 3-2. STA should worry about getting out of their own section and not talk about a rematch with DM. Its way too early.
