I think they really only have 3 games that they could lose (2 vs. Minnetonka and the Duluth East game). I think they will lose at least 1 vs. Tonka, can't see them losing both. I don't know much about DE except they usually have a solid club, and from what I've heard they are a solid team this year. I can't really base my opinion from word of mouth, so i'll leave it at that.

They're going to split with Tonka and although they will be the favorite against the Hounds, I wouldn't be surprised if East came out and played their best and pulled off the upset.

The past two years all I heard was how far AHA is going to go when they make it to state, and look what happened. No team is guaranteed to make it out of their section.

I'm gonna go way out on a limb here and say there is no way Edina loses to Jefferson, Burnsville, and Holy Angels.

I will go out on a limb and say IF Edina loses again this year, it won't be until State.

Yeah, it's a homer's prediction. So sue me.

In a 5 game series, no one beats them. In one game anything can happen.

Heat, you are right. However, your comment shouldn't be attached to mine! They can not and will not lose to Jefferson and Burnsville.

Edina could easily lose one game to Jefferson. Or Burnsville. Or Holy Angels.

Maybe that's what he meant.

I'm impressed but they COULD lose to either of those teams not likely both. I remember people saying a team like Columbia Heights could NEVER beat Edina in a million years and guess what happened? A hot goalie can make all the difference in the world.

Edina hockey

Post by O-townClown »

Edina in the 80s:

81 - West lost to South St. Paul in the first round in the disputed offside game
82 - Champs BIG over Mariner
83 - Loss to Miracle, Haller, Peterson, and crew
84 - Champs
85 - lost in Sectionals, rough 2nd half of season
86 - lost in Section Semis when Rhodes stopped 50+ rubbers
87 - a .500 team made state
88 - Champs in a wide-open tournament, upset Warroad in OT
89 - lost to Rochester in State quarters

So you have 3 pretty big upsets, two where they ran into a white-hot goaltender. This year's Edina team resembles the teams of the 80s and not the past decade. Several years they weren't dominant and wouldn't have been heavy favorites in the games they lost.

Still, at worst they lose to one of the teams mentioned.

I love the they might win 1 in a series comment.....it reminded me of "Miracle" the movie when Herb goes "Sure, the Soviets might beat us 9 times if we played them 10, but tonight....is your night" haha i got the chills right now.......you think any dramatic speeches like that will come out of b'ville's or jefferson's coach's mouth before their big date with the cakeaters???

Nearly any team in high school can beat any other team on a given night. Nice to see that the Edina fans are being as we would expect them to be.

Duluth East will beat them if cooper gets off to a solid start and easts top line plays very well, they will need to match Tardy with Budish line to win.
