It's a big opportunity for both teams to showcase their teams on TV, plus its a great game between two northern schools with big hockey history to celebrate Hockey Day in Minnesota, i don't see what the big deal is, Should be a good game,

ill say

Lake of the Woods: 3
Eveleth/Gilbert/Mesabi East: 1

Don't hear much about LOW hockey history like you do with Eveleth, and they haven't done much to prove themselves lately to be part of that great history.
It may be a close scoring game, but not a good game.

But they do have the one very important component that these games need.

It's their ball so they get to play.

should be a good game, to bad Eric Moe won't be playing as he was called up to replace Sidney Crosby.

You mean puck?
If you're saying that component is history, fine. It's not going to be a good game. Eveleth is near the bottom of the section and LOW doesn't look much better.

That is precisely why it WILL be a good game. The two teams are fairly even. And yes, history is one component - it doesn't get much more historic than Eveleth. The other being that the game is ON Lake of the Woods and the festival it is part of is called the Baudette Bay Hockey Classic.

I think this was a great choice for a game. Doesn't have to always be top caliber teams to make a good game. What makes a bad game is a top caliber team and a weak team.

I agree. I do not know much about either of these teams but its nice to see Eveleth one of the great programs in history on tv. I would much rather watch this game than say Maple Grove vs. Blaine.

Int. Falls was a common opponent. The first LOW/IF game was the same as the Two EG-ME vs IF. Blowouts by the Falls. The 2nd game between LOW and IF was 4-3. It also sounds as if EG/ME is missing a key player or two or may have players playing hurt. What will make this game worth watching is the history puff pieces that will be shown during the game. A close game between two teams not performing well doesn't make for a good game.

Since this is a "joke", I guess I will go with LOW.

So was Johnson... who gave them both "the business"!

Since every pick I make somehow ties back into Johnson, I'll take LOW because they only lost by 2 whereas Eveleth lost by 8.

rinkrat, Don't forget your hero is all over the overrated thread and your school is gradually going to dry up with the new transfer rules. If you don't want to watch this game don't. I'll be thinking of you when I'm watching I'Falls at the X in March.

I understand the reference to Eveleth's history, thats obvious, but what is this great history that LOW carries? oh, and a tidbit for you southerners, the game is played on the Rainey River, not Lake of the Woods

Lake of the Woods is hosting the event. It has nothing to do with tradition. They built the rink, they are making all the arrangements, thus they will play - as they did last year, and probably will next year and for years to come. For those of you who do not know, this is part of a larger event. Here is the schedule for the day in Baudette for the Baudette Bay Hockey Classic:

9:00AM - Gates, Vendors, & Warming Tent Open

10:00AM - Lake of the Woods vs. Eveleth-Gilbert on Baudette Bay

1:30PM - Roseau vs. Blaine on Baudette Bay

5:00PM - Old-Timer Game on Baudette Bay featuring former NHL players and olympians.

6:00PM - Luminary Cross Country Ski on Baudette Bay

7:30 - 9:00PM - Open Skate: Complete with hot chocolate, christmas lights, a bon fire, and more.

7:45PM - Fireworks Show

9:00 - Midnight - Open Hockey: Rink will be available for pick-up games for people of all ages, bon fire continues.

ALL DAY - Snow sculptures, resort competitions, hole drilling competitions, kids games - including ice fishing games, puck shoot, snowman building, sledding, snow painting, and races.
