Current teams are
Bemidji
Robert Morris
Alabama
Wayne State
Niagra
Wayne State is dropping hockey...
But if Iowa State and NDSU would go D1 and Mankato and Nebraska Omaha would switch and Robert Morris and Niagra would like to be in an eastern league
it could end up being
Bemidji
Alabama
Omaha
Iowa State
Mankato
NDSU
A nice little league with room to add a couple of MN or Wi teams that would like to make the jump.
Not in the works, just the musing of an old hockey mind.

That is possibly the most north/south conference I have ever seen.elliott70 wrote:Current teams are

Chances are much better that Bemidji would be working on making the jump to the WCHA as opposed to Mankato leaving the WCHA to join CHA.elliott70 wrote:Current teams are

I agree, but I like the idea of having more 8 team leagues then a few 12 - 15 team leagues.Zamboni Guy wrote:Chances are much better that Bemidji would be working on making the jump to the WCHA as opposed to Mankato leaving the WCHA to join CHA.elliott70 wrote:Current teams are

And I like the idea of adding more D1 teams so more kids get that opportunity.
How about University of Washington, Oregon, a couple in California and Arizona. Throw in the 2 Alaska teams and we have the West Coast Conference.
Add a couple of Texas teams, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri with Denver & CC and we can have the Great Plains Conference.
Now we can have BSU, UND, UMD, UM, SCSU, Mankato, and Wisconsin and Tech.

Here's what I think the 10 WCHA teams should be....
Air Force
Bemidji State
Colorado College
Denver
Minnesota
Minnesota-Duluth
Minnesota State-Mankato
North Dakota
St. Cloud State
Wisconsin
You add Air Force because they are neighbors with CC and Denver and because they are becoming a pretty darn good team. Also, most of the teams in there conference are out east. And you obviously add Bemidji State because they're from Minnesota. You send Michigan Tech to the CCHA with all the other Michigan schools. And as for the CHA, you add both Alaska schools (Fairbanks and Anchorage), so they still have 5 teams.
OR
Just add BSU to the WCHA and Air Force can move to the CHA where they probably fit in the most. When it's all said and done I wish they would find another conference for Tech and UAA because they really don't belong here.

I agree with elliot that more schools should add D-I hockey. Schools like Illinois, Iowa, Northwestern, Penn State, North Dakota State, etc. are all school's that should be able to support Ice Hockey at the Division I level. The only problem I can see with some of these schools coming into the fold would be the creation of a Big Ten Hockey Conference, which could leave some of the smaller school with only D-I hockey out in the cold, like St. Cloud, Mankato, Minnesota-Duluth, etc. Let's hope that the "parody" your seeing in the WCHA this year is more of a sign of the rest of the league getting stronger as opposed to the top teams being weaker.
