Of course, it might be Virginia - Hibbing.

RE:
1.International falls ( Marshall may have beaten better teams but Falls play more of the lower section teams and Virginia and Hibbing twice giving them the edge at seedings votes... plus Jake Youso, Ladd Corrin, and Jace Baldwin up front along with a good defensive unit and a hell of a sophomore in their nets)
2.Duluth Marshall as of now depending on the result of an upset February 5th this spot is theres, they have alot of senior talent that has been state runner ups last 2 seasons and really wanna get back and win it this year.
3.Hibbing (They have the best line in the section other than maybe Youso's, 2 dominatnt forwards who can take over any game, Vechell back at defense will help anchor with Estey.. They'll get the better end in Virginia on February 12th i believe)
4.Virginia-They've been a bit of a surprise this year, without Sacchetti the young guys have proven themselves as a solid team. Led by senior captain Brian Villa who was apart of the team that made it to the Xcel Center in 2004-2005. Sean Podpeskar has really taken charge up front for Virginia as their assistant captain and one of their most skilled forwards. Lustig has improved alot and may get hot at the right time.

5.Greenway-Only lost to I falls 4-3 up at Bronco arena and have been up and down quite a bit but they're definitely better than the 6-10 teams in the section.
6.Two Harbors-Two Harbors has a excellent 1st line of Comrie, Sonday, and Eckman. With 10 wins thus far expect them to be the #6 seed.
7.Ely-3-2 in the section with wins over Duluth Central,Eveleth, and Silver Bay. They may see the 2nd round for the 1st time since i can remember. There goalie Ryan Puzel has been excellent this year for the wolves.
8.Eveleth-Having a rough year thus far with the new coach. Wins over Two Harbors and Silver Bay in the section. They will have a tough time knocking off anyone above 6.
9+10. Central and Silver Bay- Pick em either way you want, neither will make it past the play in game.

Here's my quick breakdown of the section at this point:
International Falls, 7-0 (16-1)
- No section losses, game left against Hibbing, Greenway, Silver Bay, and Two Harbors - all on the road. Also play Denfeld on the road, a common opponent with Duluth Marshall which could come into play for seeding. Will need to win out to hold the top spot unless Duluth Marshall loses to Virginia, Duluth Denfeld, or Proctor.
Duluth Marshall, 4-0 (13-3)
- No section losses, only section game left is at Virginia. Also play Denfeld and Proctor - common opponents with I Falls which could affect seeding. Will probably need to win out and have I Falls lose a game to a section opponent or a common opponent to get the top seed.
Virginia/MI-B/Orr, 4-2 (11-7)
- Both losses to I Falls. Still has games left with Duluth Marshall, Greenway, Hibbing, and Eveleth. Must win all four and a game against Proctor to get the #2 seed. A win over Hibbing would likely assure them of a #3 seed, could slip to #4 if they only win against Eveleth.
Ely/B-E/T-S, 3-2-1 (8-7-1)
- Wins over Eveleth, Silver Bay, and Duluth Central; losses to I Falls and Two Harbors; tie with Silver Bay. Games left with Two Harbors and Silver Bay. Do not play Greenway, Virginia, Hibbing, or Duluth Marshall. The 10-0 score against I Falls and a weak schedule will gauge them below all of the top five. Best shot is a #6 seed if they can beat Two Harbors and Silver Bay. Could fall to #8 with a loss to Two Harbors, even farther with a lopsided loss to Silver Bay and an upset by another team currently below them.
Two Harbors, 4-4 (10-7-1)
- Losses to Virginia, Greenway, Eveleth, and Duluth Central. Wins over Ely, Duluth Central, and Silver Bay twice. Games left against Ely and International Falls. Will likely finish #6 if they win against Ely.
Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin, 2-4 (6-11)
- Losses to Hibbing, Virginia, I Falls, and Duluth Marshall. Wins over Two Harbors and Silver Bay. Games left with Duluth Central, Virginia, Hibbing, I Falls and Eveleth. Can make a case for #3 if they win all of these. Wins over Eveleth and Duluth Central should be enough for the #5 seed. A #4 seed isn't out of the question with a win over Virginia and/or Hibbing with some help.
Eveleth-Gilbert/Mesabi East, 2-4 (5-14)
- Wins over Two Harbors and Silver Bay; Lopsided losses to Virginia and I Falls (twice), also lost to Ely. Games left against Hibbing, Duluth Central, Virginia, and Greenway. The loss to Ely will hurt their chances at getting into the top 6 without winning against Hibbing or Virginia. A win over Central will keep them at home in a play-in game. Probably destined for a #7 or 8 seed.
Duluth Central, 2-4 (2-16)
- Wins over Two Harbors and Silver Bay (In OT); Losses to Silver Bay, Duluth Marshall, Two Harbors, and Ely; Games left against Greenway and Eveleth. They probably need to win both of these games to stay out the bottom spot. Losses in both put them on the road with the #10 seed.
Hibbing/Chisholm, 1-3 (8-10)
- Losses to Virginia, I Falls, and Duluth Marshall; Win over Greenway; Games left with Virginia, Greenway, I Falls, and Eveleth. Will need to win all four for the #3 seed unless Virginia loses to Greenway. Wins over Greenway and Eveleth will be enough to sew up the #4 seed. Losses to Greenway and Virginia could drop them to #5 with another Greenway upset over I Falls.
Silver Bay/Cook County, 1-7-1 (3-15-1)
- Only win was over Duluth Central, Tied Ely. Also lost to Duluth Central in OT and lost to Ely. Other losses include Duluth Marshall, Eveleth, Greenway, and Two Harbors twice. Game remaining with Virginia, I Falls, and Ely. Will need to beat Ely and upset I Falls or Virginia to gain a home game in a play-in game. Most likely the #10 seed, maybe #9 with a win over Ely.
My guess is, if things play out, it will end up like this:
(of course an upset in the top 5 will throw this all out of whack!)
1-International Falls
2-Duluth Marshall
3-Virginia/MI-B/Orr
4-Hibbing/Chishom
5-Greenway/N-K
6-Two Harbors
7-Eveleth-Gilbert/ME
8-Ely/B-E/T-S
9-Duluth Central
10-Silver Bay/CC
That would setup like this for the section playoffs:
TOP BRACKET:
Winner of (Duluth Central @ Ely/B-E/T-S) @ International Falls
Greenway/N-K @ Hibbing/Chisholm
BOTTOM BRACKET:
Winner of (Silver Bay/CC @ Eveleth-Gilbert/ME) @ Duluth Marshall
Two Harbors @ Virginia/MI-B/Orr

I falls also squeaked by against Greenway and LOW winning 4-3 and 3-2 in ot. DM has beaten the teams I Falls has, but throw in a 6-3 win against Breck and an 8-2 shellacking of STA, a top rated teams in the state at the time. It's too bad these teams cant decide on the ice in the regular season, but as of right now, i would have to put Marshall at number one.

The falls beat LOW 3-2 in ot but if you watched the game is was dominated by teh falls. They out shot them 54-16. they out played them. The greenway game they didn't play well. Our main problem is we have to get the Defense to stop skating it. I still think our goalie is a big problem but our D is doing a good job not letting them get shots so i am not worried

Marshall just doesn't play enough section opponents. They will need help in the form of an upset to I Falls to garner enough votes for the #1 seed. I Falls dominated the LOW game, the coaches will know that when they vote. They put 57 shots on goal, which was more than Marshall did I might add. Games outside the section against uncommon opponents in comparison don't really hold that much weight when the arguments start for seeding. The win over STA certainly doesn't hurt them, but its almost irrelevant because STA doesn't play anyone else in the section, so there's no real comparison as to how I Falls, Hibbing, or whoever might have done against them.hshckfan08 wrote:"1.International falls ( Marshall may have beaten better teams but Falls play more of the lower section teams and Virginia and Hibbing twice giving them the edge at seedings votes... plus Jake Youso, Ladd Corrin, and Jace Baldwin up front along with a good defensive unit and a hell of a sophomore in their nets) "

The bottom line is that I Falls will have to beat the likes of Hibbing, Virginia, and Greenway twice to get the top seed, while Marshall only has to beat them once. Plus Marshall doesn't play any of the bottom teams with the risk of a major upset. (It does happen - see Greenway over Virginia last year, or Two Harbors over Hibbing a couple years ago). Anyway, if it pans out that they each win all of those, the advantage has to go to the purple. It will be also be difficult for Two Harbors, Silver Bay, Ely, Eveleth, etc. to cast a #1 vote for a team they didn't play when they've been throttled by the other candidate. Marshall has an uphill battle to gain the top spot.
I should also add there are probably two teams in the section that likely won't vote Marshall #1 regardless. I'm not going to say which two, but I would be in complete shock if they did unless Marshall were absolutely running away with it (even then, they may not).

Last change is huge for line matching in playoff games.DmnHawk5 wrote:The difference between 1 and 2 seed is what? different colored jerseys at the championship if they both make it? Marshall doesn't need to play a lot of section games, they are getting better competition elsewhere which better prepares them to win in sections no matter what seed they get.
In the end, it won't matter if DM is #2. They usually match up their second line against the opponents first line (ex. Hibbing game/shut out). There is an evident prejudice in the Section voting and that will be hard to overcome. Shots on goal comparision is not relevant for LOW - DM/I Falls comparison. DM rolled 4 lines the entire game. Shots on goal could, have been, about 80-6 in 3 periods and not 4, like it took the Falls. DM's hardened schedule only helps them come playoff time.

So what your saying is that DM's second line can shut down/play with any other teams first line, if so, im going to have to say that is false.

Falls second line is matched up with DM's 3rd,
Falls 3rd line is matched up with DM's 1st? or 4th?
Falls 1st line is matched up with DM's second?
should be an interesting match up!
How is DM's goalie doing this year? he has the custom yellow and black summit 2's right?
RBK ruins hockey. PERIOD

I guess thats a good argument even though i dont really agree with the likely outcome.
