Midseason Section 2AA

Post by espnmobile8 »

We are now over half way through the season and in Section 2AA (arguably the toughest section in the state) it may be closer than the anticipated Edina "domination". What teams can really give Edina a run for their money, is Edina still the team to beat or is it another team, and/or who has the most realistic shot at winning it?

Not to put the other teams down but I think Edina is the obvious favorite. Correct me if I'm wrong, can this possibly be the 1st ever meeting of AHA and Edina? Too bad it isn't one of the better AHA teams of the last 6 years.

its not going to be a meeting of edina and AHA. Edina is by far the favorite, and are electric to watch. The only two teams that really have capacity to beat edina are Jefferson and Burnsville.

Jefferson may not be ready for edina yet, they are too young and small, but they have so much POTENTIAL that you never know what can happen.

Burnsville has a killer first line, that if the rest of the team can stay alive, might be able to slip a few past an unsuspecting cachetta.

I think Edina and AHA could easily wind up meeting in the section semis.

This section along with section 6AA are going to be so awesome to watch. I mean the fact that the semi's will most likely end up in game like AHA vs Edina and B'ville vs Jefferson are crazy in itself because those semi games are almost if not better than some other sections championship games......On the Edina note, a team can either take the fact their the heavy favorite two ways: They can go out their and play their game and they will most likely win or they can go out there and play like they think they're the favorite and lose because the other team might play harder.
So with that said i look at Edina and how they have done, they are easily a top 2 team in state and so far, being the favorite in every game they have played this year they have gone out and played their game (except maybe Benilde) So when it comes down to it i guess I'd say Edina SHOULD win it, in all reality they should...but what makes high school hockey great and why these games will be fun to watch is that i see 2 for sure teams that could possibly beat this team in Jefferson and B'ville and the ultimate sleeper in AHA.

So who knows what will happen but i gurantee you that they'll be worth watching....and either a big upset will happen or Edina will laugh at the people who ever thought they'd get upset

I really don't see Holy Angels getting ranked higher than Burnsville or Jefferson....i say this purely because I'm sure that the people who seed these teams would take into account that if AHA was in the lake conference they definately would not have the same overall record

So i say......
1) Edina
2) Burnsville
3) Jefferson
4) AHA

I agree with this... I really want to see AHA vs Edina even though it's a down year for AHA. I know Trebil's been dreaming of the matchup.

The more I think about it you're right. They'll all team up against Trebil! :P They've lost a few games to marginal teams but have also beat a few good ones. Watch Jefferson sneak up on a few teams as well. They're very well coached and O'Donnell is a threat who is hard to contain.

The seedings probably will look like this.
1. Edina
2. B'ville
3. Jefferson
4. AHA
5. Chaska
6. Shakopee
7. Prior Lake
8. Kennedy

Semis and finals should be some great hockey.

I believe that this section is anybodys to have. I mean if you take a step back and look at it, Edina is not TOO DEEP to be beaten as we have seen already this year. Now, yes they are the best team in the section as the records have shown but in sections weird things happen and last year an average Burnsville team beat a very good AHA team. I would say that this year there are many good teams in this section, so a good team beating a very good team is not out of the question.

That would make me more upset than if Hillary won the election. If either one happens I will be moving out of the country.

Thirdly, they can get really nervous and "choke" due to the pressure that has been building over all of the expectations

Odds are that they do win the Section, but they are operating under lofty expectations and you can be sure that the pressure is beginning to mount.

The pressure has been there ever since last year ended. Hype has been building up and it is for the most part true. Edina is a great team, no doubt about it. But for kids in High School these expectations are very heavy and you can bet that they all know that the State of Hockey is assuming they'll be around in March. The problem is that there are tough games to play and the road there is not as easy as one may think. So, choking is most definitely an outcome. To be expected to do something is one thing but to do it is another.

No team can just show up, no one has that talent. Even if they play their best they could still get beat by a hot goalie. Edina has the talent to win this section in running time of the 3rd but they won't. Burnsville has alot of heart, Jefferson and AHA have a couple studs that could steal the show. But who knows, maybe Chaska surprises somebody.
Edina appears focused - like you said since last year. bla, bla, bla Edina will win this section.

One of the best things that could happen for Edina is to lose a game or two pre-playoffs. A wake up call may help to ensure the giant is not asleep.

If I had to predict, I'd say the upset to B'ville or Jefferson happens.
