TOP OF THE HILL-----Murray

it is not their fault that they were put in the conference with all of those crappy teams. non conference games against wayzata, BSM, WBL, AHA, moorhead, and the schwans cup (gold division, yet edina opts down and you guys worship them)
the only cake team they have for non conference is park
edit: and what sparlimb said.

As bad as this conference is, it is producing a contender for both the A & AA titles. You try to fill out the balance of your nonconference schedule with quality teams & Hill does just that. They got stuck putting Park in this year because of an open date and didn't have many options to fill it. Not many teams want to schedule a game with Hill, so options dwindle. It's not Hill's repsonsibility to play down to their conference. They open the door, send five guys out, and play the game. It's funny, if Hill won 16-0 & held an opponent to 0 shots on goal like BSM did, they would be ripped by everyone. Yet, that went without too much response...why is that?

Just the Facts
Sparlimb, that's well and good. I've noticed that it wasn't you and several others trumpeting gaudy victory margins and inflated stats.
This thread is about how Hill is high and mighty. When sticking to "just the facts" I don't think it is a problem to point out the obvious. The Mercy House of Jerry's Kids and Our Lady of the Hand-me Down Shinpads is hardly Murderers' Row.
The fact is that gaudy individual statistics don't come from players on good teams playing tough schedules. Dominant statistics don't come from teams in rough leagues. While the shutout helps the GAA, I don't think many people were impressed with the goaltending when Benilde held an opponent to zero shots.

true
Benilde held a team without a shot.hunter wrote:Stats are Stats. If they don't fit your little world, just ignore them.
Roseau is undefeated.
Edina has scored more SH goals than they've given up while killing penalties.
Tartan has lost to Mahtomedi and South St. Paul.
Simley is 3-16 and has given up 112 goals.
Minnetonka kicked Hill-Murray's butt.

There are many Hill fans who post accurate assessments and comment wisely about their favorite team. Then every year someone starts bragging. And although this topic contains no venom, no boyish trash talk, inflated stats fuel the fire of the mass of Hill haters. The Pioneers are good, they're good every year... we know. Sparlimb is right - the best stats in MN HS history mean nothing come March when the 22-3 Pioneers take nights off or try to showcase their individual skills at the X. Let's not start the bragging just yet.

I thought we had already established that MaxPreps is one step above worthless... why is this anything?
Besides - who really cares. The only "sure thing" this season is Roseau. You may as well just throw HM, WBL, Roseville, Tartan and Johnson into a hat to pick the winer of 4AA. I'm not buying whatever you guys are trying to sell until 2/29/08.

I'd guess that the 1 versus 4 matchup would likely be the later game. Usually the top seed gets the later game and the 2 versus 3 will be the early game (think of one class state tourney's when the consolation game was played first). I'd be surprised if it was the other way around...Pioneerprideguy wrote:I didn't want to start a new topic, but I have a quick question. Does anyone know the times for the section semis for 4AA on 2/26? Specifically, which seeds would play say at 6:00 & which would play at 8:00. Can't seem to locate the info. Thanks.

The only reason people started tearing into Hill's easy schedule was because the thread was started about how many goals Hill scores and how many points they have. People were just pointing out the very obvious facts of why they have such high numbers. BSM doesn't brag about their stats thats why people don't talk about their schedule.

There is no conference
The other night Roseau played Crookston, one of the teams "up there". I ran a Mapquest. It's over 100 miles from Roseau. It is easy for me to see why Roseau plays who they play.pistol wrote:Their is no conference in Minnesota where Hill could play without the bored complaining that the Pioneers have it too easy.
You don't hear BIAPF saying those things about Roseau, even though the Rams are scared to play the best team from Hockey Town.
Hill-Murray is saddled with a weak league. I get it. Still, it doesn't seem like they do as much as they could to play hard teams outside of league. Shattuck plays Holy Angels and Benilde this year. Why not the Pioneers annually instead of B-SM?
There are lots of great HS teams within 30 minutes of Hill. The same can't be said for Roseau.

It's not that easy to throw a non-conference schedule together for Hill. There are teams that want no part of playing them. Is that Hill's fault? They throw together a schedule they feel will help them improve, that involves games & scrimmages. Whatever they are doing it seems to be working. Last time I checked, they have been a pretty darn good hockey program over the past several decades. Other programs have come & gone (both private & public), yet year in & year out, Hill-Murray will continue to throw together a team on the ice that will compete with the best the state can produce. Whether they win at all, or fail to make it to state, the program always presents itself in a manner which makes it's alumni very proud.

Bravo for Hill
Yeah, I get that. In the meantime, let's not get too excited about their statistical achievements. The topic of this thread.Pioneerprideguy wrote:It's not that easy to throw a non-conference schedule together for Hill. There are teams that want no part of playing them. Is that Hill's fault?

I don't think too many of us longtime Pioneer Faithful speak about individual stats or blowout victories. We tend to leave that to the next generation of Pioneers...hopefully they will learn to widen their scope of reality, without losing their sense of pride. Hopefully readers of such post will also take that into consideration when formulating their responses.

Love this. And I'd love to see a regular Cougar-Pioneer matchup. First high school hockey game I ever saw was a 10-1 HM win at the Coliseum circa 1993. Go Chiefs!Neutron 14 wrote:Psssttt...Pioneerprideguy wrote:It's not that easy to throw a non-conference schedule together for Hill. There are teams that want no part of playing them. At least a scrimmage, the Cougars do it with AHA to keep the game count under the limit.
