How long has Mr Housley been at this program? It does take a few years to get things rolling, especially if there is a mess left over from the previous coach. Also, there is alot more to do with the discipline of the team if hte previous coach did not handle it and no expectations were set.
I am not making any excuses for lackluster performances by a coach, I am in no place to make any comments but it is pretty simple to arm chair coach and give advice when you are not hte ones under the pressure. I am sure Phil is gearing up for the rest of the season as well as the future and I wish him luck. I am sure he will do just fine and will prove that Stillwater can be fixed if given the time to.
Housley is in his fourth year? That "few years to get things rolling" cushion has expired.
WAYOUTWEST is sure a bitter one, easy all-star! Those numbers are second tier, they equal a 500 record in high school. Not many care about "B" rankings. They don't correlate to successful programs except at Edina the last several years, or Jefferson back in the day.
Did someone's kid get cut from the program or ride the pine? Junior Gold perhaps?
Wayoutwest..... what part of loosing 5 or 6 A bantam players every year is confusing you. if you lose 35% of your talent every year how do you think you can compete. Stillwaters first line consist of a first line, a third line and a j.v. player from last year. That right will tell you the lack of expeerience on this years team..
How many times had Stillwater been to the state tournament before Housley got there?
2006- CDH is state champs. 2008- 8-11. Same coaches. They must have forgot how to coach or maybe the graduation of some D1 and NHL first rounders had something to do with it.
I guess the guy at AHA forgot too. The Centennial coach got amnesia.
Pack The trouble with your annalogy is both Trebil and O'neil have something to brag about. Their programs have been to the top. Housley needs to earn the respect first. Until he can show he belongs in that class their's no need to compare.

Not comparing, just illustrating the point. You gotta have talent.
I am no D1 scout or anything but I have seen Stillwater play and I have seen the teams that they play in the SEC. They are a good group of kids I am sure but the talent level seems in line with their record.
i graduated last year and from all my friends that played for coach housley every single one of them thinks hes an absolute joke...
He gives kids 2-3 chances on minors
He did kick off 2 jv goalies and 1 varsity player last year in the duluth trip last season where the whole team was smoking weed and he only caught 3 of them
Finally the whole thing with a junior being captain this year and aaron forstner was upset about this and was going to trasfer and from what i heard phil and hamilton brought him into mr.hamiltons room and locked him in there demanding that he stay next year for stillwater anyways which he didn't
Perhaps everyone should stop blaming the coaching staff and look at the kids. Matt Johnson, a junior captain, hasn't scored a goal in how many games? The ponies go scoreless for games in a row. How many teams in the MSHSL lose that many games 2-0 or 2-1? Yes, they play a tough schedule but the defense, and more than not, the goaltending have been working. Look at their last win over Hastings, I read that it was two kids scoring their first varsity goals. People on here say they don't have as much talent, sure they lost kieffer and some other offensive minded guys, but this year they have a solid defensive core and just cant seem to score. All the games I've been to, they've had opportunities and couldn't seem to put the puck away. So come on here anonymously and bash the coaching staff for kids making poor choices and simply not playing well, is that really fair?

At least Forstner is on a better team (Woodbury) this year.
and also as for "the whole team was smoking weed" I feel like that's a pretty harsh and untrue generalization. Do you honestly think ALL the kids were? Yes, I've heard there have been some bad apples in the Stillwater Hockey past but from what I've heard, this year is completely different. Streine Johnson and Molstad are all kids who everyone says are extremely dedicated to cleaning up the team. All the bashing and negativity on here is really not going to help make the team any better
The headline on the Stillwater youth hockey website states that Stillwater has the 5th LARGEST number of registered players and coaches in USA Hockey. I realize that this include girls, but it is still a huge number. (Even if you toss out the "bad apples")
hey ponyputz, you have to be forstners brother.....wow only you two clowns could come up with that story....it sure sounds like someone is a little bitter, its not the coaches fault you cant play behond high school......
Also pnnyputz, that is not even close to what happened, yes they did appoint a jr captain, (well deserving), but hamilton did not even want arron on the team period, none of the coaches did excpet phil and that was because he felt sorry for him, he was a third line player for most of last year. It goes to show its not the coach, its the pissy little player (Arron) who quit because he wasnt appointed captain....
