Duluth Schools Closed 1-29-08

Post by puckman22 »

Duluth schools are closed today so you know what that means. A free day of rink ratting. But, I was wondering, if the schools are closed today (public and private), then wouldn't the Duluth Marshall CDH game be cancelled....again? They already had to reschedual it once for bad conditions. What will happen this time?

My understanding of this situation is that a school closing automatically cancels all sporting events on the same day. I'd therefore assume East-Superior and Denfeld-Cloquet are cancelled too.

If anyone can A) confirm this, and B) figure out when the games will be rescheduled (if at all), it would be much appeciated.

Duluth East at Superior has been rescheduled for Monday, February 11 at 8pm. It's an interesting decision to schedule on that date, as now the game can have no bearing on Superior's section playoff seeding (not that it necessarily would anyway).

Haven't heard anything on any other games, but my understanding is also that no school = no game. I know East has already rescheduled basketball that was set for tonight.

Thank you!

It's an odd date, but I suppose Randolph doesn't want anything other than East-Cloquet during the week next week, and the regular season ends midway through the next week, so I guess that's what they were left with.

Oh, I'm not complaining. I'm just glad they get to play the game. It's usually a lot of fun when the two collide.

Not to mention that I'm not even sure a Superior win would help them in section seeding (they should be #1 regardless of any result down the stretch).

Freezing rain overnight coated everything with ice. It will probably be fine at game time, but Duluth has a no school=no game rule.

I expect we'll have school tomorrow. Today was rather anticlimactic, and the roads should be in better shape. It'll still be windy and cold, but that doesn't usually stop them from having school here.

Not sure if there's any hockey affected by this, but Duluth schools are closed tomorrow too.

As of 5:05AM, Virginia is still not cancelled, but Mountain Iron-Buhl has cancelled classes.

Virginia is now cancelled as well. I think that pretty much covers the entire northeast corner of the state.
