Ok I guess you left before the end of the game then. I will agree that Bemidji plays physical. There are a couple of players that take it too far at times but I wouldn't say Sarah does. She plays aggressive. I'm not going to get into a long argument with you about this GoCards. I thought both teams played very well on Saturday. I thought Bemidji played well enough to win but didn't capitalize on their chances and Alexandria did. In my opinion Sarah Erickson is the best girl's hockey player in the state. She proved it again against your team on Saturday. You have your opinion. I have mine. Good Luck to your team the rest of the year.
Alexandria with a 19-1-2 record does not have any player that has more than 14 penatly minutes, and that is our strongest defense player Ashley Holmes. Our leading scorer, Abby Williams has 60 points and only 10 penalty minutes. I think you'll see both of these young ladies as candidates for Ms. Hockey. They are both scholars, and contribute to the community. Abby, if you'll remember, won the Herb Brooks award last year. Their behavior on an off the ice is always exemplary; and I believe, Thunderbird77, they will both be excellent company for Ms. Chute.
I think true candidates don't have to have their names beaten into everyone's heads on a continuing basis. Their reputations speak for themselves.

I don't consider 9 penalties a lot at all, especially for a strong, aggressive player like she is. Even though she missed a few games, this would still have to be considered below average, or at worst average, IMO. Certainly not enough to detract from her abilities or consideration for the award.

agreed pondhockey. I think both williams and holmes are both very deserving. We will see what happens.
To statechamp, I was definately impressed with erickson, and felt very uncomfortable when Alex's first or second line or Holmes wasnt on the ice when she was.. very dangerous, as she showed on her second goal. I thought williams hung right there with her to be honest...
Williams and Anez (I think) did what Bemidji needed to do, answer goals quickly. Very good team and I would be shocked if they didn't go to the state tournament this year.

I was at the Moorhead-Bemidji game today and a few of the u12 and u14 girls that I held coach were sitting in front of me and I just told them to watch #4. They watched alright. What a great player.
Minnesota Ms. Hockey Award top 10 finalists announced
MINNEAPOLIS — Let's Play Hockey newspaper announced today the top 10 candidates for the 2008 Ms. Hockey Award, which will be presented to the top senior girls' high school hockey player in Minnesota.
In alphabetical order, here are this year's top 10 finalists, with college choice:
Emily Erickson, Grand Rapids/Greenway, forward, Bemidji State
Sarah Erickson, Bemidji, forward, Minnesota
Melissa Feste, Eden Prairie, forward, Ohio State
Ashley Holmes, Alexandria, defense, North Dakota
Anne Schleper, St. Cloud Icebreakers, defense, Minnesota
Kelly Seeler, Eden Prairie, defense, Minnesota
Lauren Smith, Holy Angels, forward, Ohio State
Monique Weber, Elk River, forward, Connecticut
Danielle Welch, Hastings, forward, Boston College
Kelly Wild, Cretin-Derham Hall, defense, Ohio State
Eight of the 10 players named as finalists are bound for the WCHA next season. All of them have been bound to the textbooks for the past several years. The top 10 finalists check in with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.63. LPH Class AA No. 1 Eden Prairie boasts two players in the top 10, while Ashley Holmes of Alexandria stands as the lone player from a Class A team among the finalists.
The top five finalists for Ms. Hockey will be announced Thursday, Feb. 14, with the winner named at the Ms. Hockey awards banquet on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m., at the RiverCentre in St. Paul. The award is sponsored by Let’s Play Hockey and the Minnesota Wild. The top five finalists for the Let’s Play Hockey Senior Goalie of the Year Award will be announced Thursday, Feb. 7.
In addition to on-ice talent, criteria for the Ms. Hockey Award includes academics, community/extracurricular activities, citizenship and coachability. The 2007 Ms. Hockey winner was Katharine Chute of Blake. Other past winners include Allie Thunstrom of North St. Paul (2006), Gigi Marvin of Warroad (2005), Erica McKenzie of Hastings (2004), Andrea Nichols of Hibbing/Chisholm (2003), Ashley Albrecht of South St. Paul (2002), Renee Curtin of Roseville (2001), Krissy Wendell of Park Center (2000), Ronda Curtin of Roseville (1999), Laura Slominski of Burnsville (1998), Annamarie Holmes of Apple Valley (1997) and Winny Brodt of Roseville (1996).
Other awards that will be presented at the banquet include the Let’s Play Hockey Senior Goalie of the Year Award, which goes to the top senior goalie in girls’ high school hockey, as well as the Minnesota Girls High School Hockey Coaches Association’s Coach of the Year, and All-State and All-Academic Award winners for the 2007-08 season.

Tell me boblee, who do we take out of that top 5 to put Emily in? I'm just glad I'm not the one doing the voting, as there are a lot of deserving young ladies!
