Even Ness wouldn't be a Ness-like player playing against Edina. And it wouldn't be a good idea to try. It will take patience for a team to beat Edina, capitalizing on THEIR mistakes and limiting your own. I wouldn't try going end to end with them. I thought the Tonka goalie had a great game.

i agree with boblee gardiner didnt really impress. sloppy play and not very smooth definatly not a ness. buddish best play is turning his back in the corners you cant move him or get around that frame. i was impressed with his speed for such a big kid. as for edina being the clear #1 team i disagree. you dont have to respect roseau but youll have to beat them to prove it and its not gona be as easy as you might think. i like the match up. roseaus second line is big and fast would match up well with edinas big line and if they hold them off which i think its totally possible its game over. roseaus first line is very good and the third is flat out better than edinas. roseau is weaker on defense perhaps but not in the net. roseau thrives on transition and i notice edina likes to rush 4 alot they will get caught alot against roseau for odd man rushes.

I disagree. Once the Skippers stopped playing scared they played quite even but they couldn't convert on the PP and came up empty in the deciding 3rd period. As for Gardiner remember that he's a converted F and still learning to play D.

Was anybody disappointed with the play on the ice???? I loved the atmosphere but I didn't see the great play that alot of you guys did. I watched the 2nd and 3rd periods on FSN (I had 2 mite outdoor practices). Maybe my expectations were too high, but I saw many players turn the puck over in the offensive end and coast on the backcheck (Buddish). I thought I'd see an up-and-down, firewagon type of game.

The goalies were great, but I came away unimpressed. Did anybody see what I saw???????

(preface: I'm an Edina guy).

We spoke about Prima Donnas earlier in this thread. I saw none of that. I did see:

1. One way play.
2. Over passing.
3. Sloppy defensive play.
4. Defensemen throwing the puck away.
5. Dump and chase (god, I hate this about Giles).

I think Edina has great talent and I expect them to do very well. Maybe a loss next time against MTKA will throw a charge back into their rear ends. A late season loss can do wonders going into the one-and-done portion of the schedule.

Read this am. It got me thinking, I didn't see the great play seen by the author. I saw a great atmosphere.

Maybe I expect too much!

Looks like the Roseau faithful are up and at em this morning.... Nice game eh fellas? All this critiquing sounds more like concern...

As I wrote earlier in this thread, I'm an Edina guy. Just a realistic one (I think).

To be honest, I saw Roseau play last month. While I thought Ness was the real deal, I came away unimpressed with the Rams as well.

As stated earlier, maybe my expectations are too high

Its easy to be a critic when comparing Gardiner skating around Edina to Ness skating around cones.

What's that son?

As far as the game goes I was very impressed. I didn't see any of the disappointment that some others saw. I thought these were two of the best high school teams I've seen in a very long time, playing in the best regular season high school hockey game I've ever seen. A player who really has impressed me every time I watch Tonka is Giel. He had flashes against Holy Angels and again last night where he looked like he was best player on the ice.

Allow my self to congratulate - myself - on this prediction.

Great game.

Jake Gardiner needs to learn when to play the man and not the puck. He had a hand in the first two Edina goals. He's a great player and will do well at a higher level I'm sure, but he's still learning the position, which is to be expected for a guy who just moved to D.

That would require physical contact...not something he likes to do. He was out for 3 of 4 goals. 2 were his guy. 1st PP goal by Edina set up to isolate him and beat on the back door....worked. Agreed: great skater and patience with the puck but alot to learn and maybe a little over hyped.

Played at MHS then Notre Dame. Not sure about previous coaching gigs or what he teaches.

Thanks SS, appreciate the info.
I like the coaches style.
Seems too young, but that can be a good thing when working with young men.
Seems to relate pretty well with them.
Wish him the best. They have a very nice team.
Giles seems to be ducking and dodging the arrows over there at Edina.
Has lasted longer than I thought he would. Hard to be under that microscope 24/7. He does a good job with some awesome athletes there.

IMO, Giles should get to the state tournement if not the champioship game with this group. If he doesn't he's under-achieving. As much as I admired him as a player, I don't think much of him as a coach. Beupre has had a nice impression on the goalie however.

I watched this game and also was not impressed. Pretty sloppy actually.

The announcers graveling over it being the best game they saw in ten years was a bit much. Where the heck have they been watching hockey.

Edinas 1st line is good but after that it slides fast. I think this spells trouble for them in the playoffs against good defensive teams with offensive depth, or hot goalies which just happen to come up big at playoff.

Mtka's defense was terrible. Very careless play with give aways. I thought the Giel kid was best on ice. And I think their line depth was better.

Goalies were ... well goalies.

Either of these teams could be upset in playoffs.

Any paying attention to Blaine lately?

neutron- i would'nt put two cents in stock of anything you say from what ive read of your post. your vision of what a hockey player looks like scares the hell out of me. ness is without a doubt best hs player in the state. im not saying that because im from roseau. its just that obvious. in my opinion anyone that cant see it is not much of a scout.

It's been a good week for the Hornets, the road trip up north was successful. The Duluth East game was a great wake-up call and the sign of good students are those who learn their lessons well. I think they are progressing, their schedule and conference is tough and if they play at an improving level, this is the level they will practice at and continue to progress. Lucky there is seeding if they go to the big show.

I watched the game on FSN. Best game in 10 years - over the top. But, it was a good game. I didn't like the section reallignment at first, but one good thing is that after round 2 in a couple weeks, these two teams, if they make it through sections, could meet at state.

People who were disappointed may be expecting too much - lots of D 1 talent was on the ice....
