The only reason they deserve a 1 seed is because they have more wins than anyone will get and winning games should get you something. Really though the difference between the 1,2 and 3 seeds isnt a big difference because...
If you get 1,2or3 you will all get a first round home game vs an easy opponent (DC, JM, Winona, Farmington). After that everyone plays at RCC and both semis will be competitive. 1 will play 4 and 2 will play 3. LN, LS, Owatonna and Mayo are all legitimate teams that could all beat each other on any given night. It doesnt matter which you play because they are all pretty even. And you cant argue that with individual or even head to head games because they have almost all played someone well and played someone poorly (ex. North beat Mayo, Mayo tied South and should have won, South beat North. This could go on for a while too)
Its such a competitive section that its all about who gets hot and has a goalie play well.
Also the reason I didnt put the 4th seed into that is because they will most likely have to play Century whom I think will lose but they are definatly a way tougher game than the 6-9 seeds.

If you actually read his post...
I don't think he was saying Winona is going to be the #3 seed, he just listed the teams in 1AA by their overall record and Winona does have the third best record. He then listed how he thought the top 4 seeds would go and Winona wasn't in there. It's a good post and makes sense if you take the time to read it.
I think Owatonna and South will be the 1 and 2 seeds respectively. 3 through 5 will hinge on the Mayo/Century game; if Mayo wins North will be 3, Mayo 4, and Century 5. If Century wins Century will be 3, North 4, Mayo 5. I think North should deserve the 3 seed over Century, but Century has some easy games coming up and they'll post a better record. Also Century hasn't lost to or tied a bad team yet, North has. Besides, right now Mayo and North are going the wrong way, Mayo is in desperate need of a decent win, they're 2-7 in their last 9 and those wins came against winless Austin and 3 win JM.
This section will put Lee's system to the test as he has the teams ranked:
1-South (51)
2-Mayo (62)
3-Owatonna (68 )
4-Century (69)
5-North (74)
6-Farmington (86)
7-Winona (111)
8-Dodge Cty (128)
9-JM (131)
He'll win or lose against the coaches based on this section.

This will be a very interesting section down the stretch and nobody has the #1 seed locked up yet....clearly Owatonna is the favorite, but they have some tough games to play still....Mayo and Century being the two biggest ones. The only quality win that Owatonna has outside of the Big Nine is Blake - and they have some horrible losses outside the Big Nine - just like Century and Mayo.
South and North will not have great records, but they both have some nice wins - including good games (wins or ties) against Mayo and Century.
With that being said, it Owatonna losses to both Mayo and Century, they could really fall in the rankings. I doubt they will lose both of those games at home, but it has been a very strange season.
Mayo can still finish with 26 points in the conference and if they do, they would end up with 15 wins, which will look good in the seedings. The Spartans have killed themselves lately - starting w/ the Buffalo game through Friday night's collapse against LS.
If LS beats LN again, and Mayo/Century beat Owatonna, I would not want to predict the seedings. Someone said that the LS/Mayo tie hurt LS more - maybe, but only if LS beats LN again. If LN beats LS, it hurts Mayo because had Mayo won, they might've been able to secure at least the 3rd seed.
It will be interesting to see how the LN/LS/Mayo/Century games are viewed by the Big Nine coaches...it depends on how things finish up down the stretch. If LS pounds LN again, perhaps the tie helps Mayo.
The bottom line remains that 1-5 could win the section and I look for some great semi-final games at the Rec on the 23rd.

One thing I would consider when predicting the seedings is do you really think that any of the Rochester teams or anyone in the Big9 for that matter will want an all Lakeville section final in Rochester?! I think that teams are going to try to make LS and LN the 2 and 3 seeds or the 1 and 4 so they will more likely play in a semi game.

Do you think?
Do you think that the coaches in their right minds would do the seeding based on what you said eagle4life? Or, are the coaches actually quite ethical and seed the teams based on who they think are the best teams in the section and rank order on down. Another thing, all of the teams in the section rank, not just the Rochester teams. And, they don't rank their own team, so

honestly the ssp owatonna game was a joke, i thought i was gonna watch a good game because ssp tied hill but the refs just didnt wanna see owatonna beat a cities team they were on the penalty kill 2/3 s the game and a big fight in the end leaving #9 i believe out for the mayo game that score doesnt mean anything shots were the same with otonna on the kill the whole game
that being said after watching the mayo/south game it is wide open anyone could take this section, it will be the team that gives it the most heart

If you'd read MY post and the one I quoted, you would probably realize that your whole 1st paragraph is totally irrelevant to what I wrote. I agree, the post on the 2nd page where they put all the teams in order based on records, is a good post.goldy313 wrote:If you actually read his post...![]()

I don't know if Mayo is still rotating goalies, but if they are, it will be Steinmetz. Should be a heck of a game either way.Rippentrop wrote:Big game tuesday with Spartans playing the Indians. Will determine a lot I think in this section. Who's in net for Mayo and O-Town? Is it true there is a Indian out on suspension for this game?

I do think that coaches sometimes seed on things other than what teams they think are the best. Ive witnessed it first hand back when they used to vote for football sections before the whole points system (which actually works really well). Ive seen coaches rank teams low because they dont like a coach or they dont like a team, etc. EX: say your a coach and a team is just creaming you going into the third, say like up by 5 or 6. You would think that it would be time for al ot of 3rd and 4th liners right? But instead you are getting a teams first line every other shift and you end up losing by 10. That team may be the best in your section but are you really going to seed them 1 or are you going to slip them down a little bit to try to make a point to there coach. You, yourself may still rank them 1 like you should and thats great but not everyone is like you. Some people are just jerks and dont want others to do well.
Im not saying that its going to happen or that they dont want to see a Lakeville final, Im just saying that it isnt unrealistic to think it could.

Eagleforlife - Maybe...but I doubt it happens. Owatonna would have to lose their hold on the #1 seed as it is right now - it could happen, but they deserve it right now. It won't really matter much because both LS and LN will have to win two tough games regardless of the seeds. If LN beats LS the next time around, LS could fall down to #4, maybe more depending on the Century/Mayo, Mayo/Owatonna, and Century/Owatonna games.
As far as the coaches, I think they recoginize the strong schedules that LS and LN both play and there are not any way far western MN teams anymore to really throw a monkey wrench in things.
Indians....now, that takes it back a few years.
I hope the Spartans show up with some intensity for maybe more than 1-2 periods on this one.

A former Faribault coach seeded teams based on personel feelings. It does happen, that's why 1AA throws out the high and low, or at least they used to when he coached.
Both Century and Mayo picked up important wins tonight. Century risked falling to a posible 7 seed if they got beat by Winona, now they probably can't be any worse than a 5. Mayo knocking off Owatonna by an impressive score hurts Owatonna, maybe not enough to drop them from a 1 yet but it makes Owatonna's game against Century all that much more of a must win for both. Mayo needed a win badly and got it. Owatonna's loss also puts them in striking distance of Century (and with help Mayo) for the Big Nine, the Big Nine teams should get seeded by conference standings.
I don't think Lakeville S. can get seeded any lower than #2, (now they'll lose to North and that will go by the wayside) North, Owatonna, Mayo, and Century all have a shot to be anywhere 1-5. Owatonna's loss opened the door for everyone.

LN got embarassed by a bad Chaska team tonight and they just cant seem to find a solution in nets. Thomas played very poorly tonight and although they may get a decent seed they are not a very confident team right now.
LS on the other hand I havent heard what there score was with Rosemount so I dont know whats going on with them.

I think it should be seeded by the coaches and the last 10 games should be weighed more than the others...
you want the hottest team to be the #1 seed.
May be Lakeville South or Mayo If Mayo can beat Albert Lea than they should be the #1 seed after beating Owatonna bad in Owatonna.
Lakeville South's win over Rosemount is significant.
