After looking at the LPH thread and the QRF rankings and the 1AA thread I have this to say...

On 2-1-08
The top 25 AA teams in the QRF are spread out over 4 sections.
Section reps in the QRF AA top 25
1AA 0
2AA 4
3AA 3
4AA 3
5AA 3
6AA 1
7AA 3
8AA 3

That isn't a bad split. Granted the 8AA teams are down around 20, and 3 of the 2AA teams are in the top 5 but I know 8AA Bemidji(21) beat 2AA Holy Angels (5) So most of the 1-25 teams would probably be pretty good match ups. 8)

Hopkins #7
BSM #13
Wayzata #15

From your list it looks like 7 out of the 8 sections have at least one representative from the QRF top 25. And shouldn't the total add up to 25? Right now it adds up to just 20.

Yes, given the geographic limitations of the sectional assignments, you have to say this has worked out about as well as it could. Should be great section games and a very competitive tournament!

6AA has 3 teams represented:
Hopkins #7
BSM #13
Wayzata #15

Don't insult our intelligence. We can do that on our own. Looking at how QRF ranks 25 teams. 25???? Who cares? Let's look at the top 6 teams.

90% of the time the State Champion will be one of these 6 teams. And it will work this year because the 3 strong sections don't face each other in the State Quarter Final Round.

My sleepers(someone who isn't top six) are BSM and Hopkins.

AA - very little change, with current games played.

A - Top 5 steady, 6 thru 10 has been a-roll-of-the-dice every other day.

* Sorry but I have to consider this an anomally, QRF is still increasing at a higher rate than all of the top 10. (AA and A)

ice29, part of the reason for such little change is because yesterday's games do not appear to have been entered into the rankings. If you look at the records of the teams that played yesterday, they did not change from the ranking done two days before. I don't know why QRF wouldn't have waited until all of yesterday's scores were in.

Also as you get towards the end of the year, the result of each game has a proportionately smaller bearing on where is a team gets ranked. For example one game played out of 25 is less significant than one out of eight, and therefore will have a smaller impact on a team's ranking. This also probably explains why you are seeing less movement at this time of year.

Its a formula. Thats all. It won't change much because like was stated, the volume of numbers of games played to date out weigh current results.

Thats why the play the games this time of year. The statistics don't matter. Playoff hockey is soooooooo fun!

Class A

3 Warroad (20-5-2) 136.9
4 Roseau (22-4-2) 127.8
Roseau just beat Warroad last night, still can't get ranked ahead of 'em, won season series too :?:

6 Hibbing/Chisholm (10-13-2) 108.8
AA schedule get them this high? Tough record to be #6

8 Mankato West (21-6-0) 103.6
10 New Prague (18-8-1) 102.4
New Prague 8 Mankato West 1

One of the problems is that a team's first few games of the season count just as much as the last few games. But because many games are already in at the end, each additional game doesn't move a team's rank as much as it would have earlier.

In any case, a good coach + a strong work ethic + good team chemistry and environment can lead to a lot of improvement over the course of the season. Some teams improve a lot while others stagnate or even go the other direction. And of course no matter when the games are played and no matter which rankings you go by, upsets can and do happen.

Yet to play: CDH #21 trying to upset Stillwater #5, and Coon Rapids #30 trying to topple #9 Centennial. Neither are likely but they could happen!

Understand and agree MNHockeyFan
IMO New Prague 8 Mankato West 1 was expected, not an upset...
I would think recent games, say last ten should count more than earlier games in December, and especially recent head to head...
Just my opinion...
