Well davey, i certaintly havent forgot about the boys at New Prague. They are right now, prolly my favorite team in the section, by just a little though. They will be a tough one to overcome for any team come sections, there no pushovers, like austin or east.

p.s. for you non New Prague followers, there team consists of some very impressive underclassmen.

i've always thought NP was a good team. Do you think they have too much ground to make up to get a top 2 seed? What's the highest they could go?

I think they can get to a 3 seed. They have to beat RW to secure that. Win ovewr Lourdes helps them immensely as does the win over Denfeld.
Lot depends on what happens in the MW lourdes and the MW AL games

So it's a "winner takes all" game next week between AL and West?

A win by AL gives them the Big 9 AND #1?
A win by West and they get the Big 9 and at least a #2?

Well, it will more than likely decide the Big 9. That is if AL can go on to beat Mayo the following Tuesday.

Not so sure about the #1 seed however. That 5-1 loss to Lourdes might come back to haunt the Tigers.

West can't win the Big Nine just by beating Albert Lea, Their 4 point game at Century will have a lot to do with who wins the conference. Likewise Albert Lea still has to travel to Mayo and get a win. There are no tie breakers in determining who the conference champion is; if AL beats West twice West could still tie AL for the championship.

In 1A there now is no way Lourdes gets anything less than a 1 seed. New Prague beating Lourdes throws a whole wrench in the section. Lourdes beat every Big Nine team they played, the Missota now looks a lot better than I thought it did a week ago. I'd rank them:

1- Lourdes
2- Red Wing, tougher schedule than any Big Nine team
3- Albert Lea, better wins than West
4- West, really need to beat AL and an AL loss at Mayo to move up
5- New Prague, a 7-1 loss to West keeps them down even though their probably a top 3 or 4 team.
6- Northfield
7- La Crescent
8- Faribault

Goldy, Agree that Lourdes has locked up the 1. I say if West beats AL they get at least the 3 probably the 2. You say AL has better wins. I see one. Duluth Denfeld, who NP also beat. I'd say West win over NP is a good win. Too bad AL did not get to play them this year. Also, too bad West and RW didn't see each other. Another way to look at it is who had some bad losses.
AL - loss to Owatonna does not help. I know they were missing guys, but no excuses.
RW- loss to Shakopee is not good. They have had some good wins though
NP- loss to Northfield not good in looking at comparisons. A win against RW coming up would put them in top 4 consideration. They have been playing good lately
West- really no bad loss yet
All I know is the 4 and 5 seeds are going to be put through the meat grinder to get thru what should be an awesome section tourney

Albert Lea also has two wins over Century, West still has to play Century and I think that's big game for both teams because Big Nine standings will have a huge impact on seedings in both A and AA. West has no bad losses but their schedule isn't the same as Lourdes, Red Wing's, or Albert Lea's either. While no where near as weak as the schedule La Crescent plays, both will be hurt by a lack of quality opponents. West needed a better Christmas tournament to play in considering that the Big Nine isn't very strong.

I also think if you're West, or anyone for that matter, you're better off avoiding Red Wing in the semi's if possible. I think they'll be toughest team to beat in the section because of the schedule they've played.

if red wing runs the table in their last four games (northfield, hermantown, new prague, and hutchinson) they'll get the #2 seed based on the no. of quality wins. far more than anyone else in the section. that's even if west or albert lea wins the big-9. getting #1 and #2 probably gets a quarter final against faribault or lacrescent. #3,#4,#5,#6 would be between albert lea, west, new prague, and northfield playing each other in the quarter finals, a much tougher road to the semi's, plus playing 3 tough games in a row. that was a big win for lourdes thursday night and a huge loss for west. if they lose to albert lea and century they could drop as far as #5. the win against new prague was a long time ago in the coaches minds and new prague is playing much better now.

Don't school's give you a free day when something like this happens? I cant remember I have been outta high school for so long.
Only if your team goes to state, but thats not stopping me from skipping school, going to the hockey expo, and watching the best.

aaaaaaaand Marshall will probably be representing section 3 in the state tourney most likely. it's nice to see 1A not the "weak" section anymore. 5 teams could all win it and make some noise at state.

not that it matters, but west beat winona 11-3. Leivermann with 5 pts.
hopefully with some games under his belt after his suspension he'll be back up to speed

It's been said before, no way does AL get the seed ahead of Lourdes, Lourdes beat them head to head.

No way does LaCrescent get seeded above Northfield or Faribault. Faribault beat Northfield and Northfield beat New Prague. Those are 2 quality section wins for both teams so they will be seeded above a team that does not play any section teams. Plus LaCrescent lost to Winona. Northfield gets the six, Faribault gets seven and LaCrescent should be eight. Northfield may be the best 6 seed in class A hockey. But the more important thing is, I do not think you can pick a favorite between the top 5 seeds. Should be some great hockey at the REC on the 23rd. I would bet beter hockey in the class A match-ups than the AA match-ups.

if lourdes plays to the best of their ability (like the game on thurs) they have a good chance

If Lourdes plays like they did during the Kiwanis tourney, they might lose in the quarterfinals and would certainly get bumped in the semis.

I love how everyone makes such sure fire predictions of this and that.

Despite what has happened in the regular season, the team to beat is still AL in my opinion. They have solid goaltending, work hard every shift of every game, have enough scoring, are VERY well coached, and they have been there before - those trips to the state tourney in the last few years will pay come playoff time.

Are you kidding me with that prediction of la crescent over lourdes. Why is everyone so high on lacrescent, honestly look at their schedule. They don't play anyone who's even close to contention in 1a. I have no idea about all the wisconsin teams they play but with a 5-3 win over Winona, and narrowly beating dodge county both times, i don't see how they can get anything above an 8 seed come section time

Nut. Agree with you on this one. You know what you are going to get from AL every time out. The other teams have been somewhat inconsistent during the year. The West loss to Lourdes was big. They need to show they can win a big game. They get there chance Thursday.

No kidding...LaCrescent can play some pretty good defense when all of their defensive lineup is in. I think that matches up well with an inconsistant club like Lourdes. I would have to say that the coaching is tilted for LaCrescent as well. The Gill fellow is going to do well in the future, but he may be a bit wet behind the ears yet. If LaCrescent's Kraut tender can stand on his head, they are winners in a tight one. The Giants should have never beaten the Patriots, but Yes, It Can Happen!

West is going to get caught looking past Faribault on Tuesday and the Falcons are going to shock the section. You all know who called it first Tuesday night you can quote this when someone tells us that Faribault beat West.

You have it all right except that AL will play Lourdes or Red Wing in the Finals. And La Crescent will not beat Lourdes. La Crescent is one of the worst teams in the state, they play teams out of Wisconsin and they play no good competition out of Minnesota. La Crescent should not even be in Minnesota. La Crescent is bad; plain and simple.

All this talk on here has been really fun to watch and read. I will make only 1 guarantee about seedings...I guarantee somebody is going to be unhappy and think the got "screwed"! You can honestly make an argument for each team with each seed. Should be a blast.
