Most Overrated teams in A & AA
I looked at A and La Crescent is said to be a top 20 team and i dont buy it same with Mahtomedi and Park Rapids. In AA Hopkins. The 2 best teams they played they lost to. Minnetonka and Edina. And Woodbury weak schedule and losses to Hastings and Andover.
Re: Most Overrated teams in A & AA
AA it is definately Roseau because there schedule is so soft that they won the state championship last year with most of the same key players. Also they are too scared to play tough canadien teams and it is too far for HM to go as they are playing and losing to powerhouse teams from Tartan and tieing SSP.GoGoGophers wrote:I looked at A and La Crescent is said to be a top 20 team and i dont buy it same with Mahtomedi and Park Rapids. In A it has to be STA as DM beat them 8-2 on their home ice.
how can you say STA, they had one bad game it happens. they play a very tough schedule and are not overrated. i would have to say maybe hopkins for AA
in class A, i would have to say mankato west as they just lost to another decent team, i just dont belive anymore that they are woth the hype they are getting. i also want to recognize albert lea and say they are underrated, they are consistent and have some pretty big wins this year.

OK, I'm all right now. Whew! I guess I should be more careful what I read with food in my mouth.
Thanks for the laugh, though. That was really rich!!

Re: Most Overrated teams in A & AA
STA isnt overrated now. At the time when they played DM they may have been. Most people put them 2-4 in A right now, which is probably where they should be. They had a tough week playing Hill Murray 2 nights before and then playing a very good DM team who came to play, and STA's goalie had a bad night. It happens in hockey.Fargo wrote:AA it is definately Roseau because there schedule is so soft that they won the state championship last year with most of the same key players. ROSEAU??????
This is what I was thinking last year. I thought they had a weak schedule and weren't nearly as good as they we credited for. I definitely was proved wrong.
WEAK SCHEDULE
Dominated Moorhead twice 7-2 and 4-0
Beat Jefferson 4-3
two solid wins over warroad 5-2 and 8-0 ************* 8-0
brainerd 7 rip
Hibbing 6-0
Sure they don't play most their games against city teams but they definitely don't have a weak schedule. Not only to be 21-0 but they have beat some very solid teams and beat them badly.

facts about Roseau's schedule
Hibbing? A one A team with a losing record.
I think Roseau is great, but I've got to call you out on the being impressed by Hibbing part of their schedule. Edina is 20-1 and has played only two teams with a PS2 rank as low as Hibbing.
8-2 Century
8-2 Chaska
Depending upon how things shake out Edina may face a third when they play Buffalo on Saturday.
Warroad is #25.
Brainerd is #34. I think this is the only common opponent so far.
Jefferson is pretty good at #16.
Moorhead is #12. They've played a very good schedule to be that high since their record is 10-8-3.
They "definitely don't have a weak schedule"????
The problem with that statement is that when it is measured compared to other teams they DO have a weak schedule.
At one recent point it measured the 47th toughest. There aren't many more AA teams than that in the whole state.
For comparison, Edina has played 8 teams in the PS2 Top 20 so far.
Look, it doesn't matter if they've played anyone or not. They are a near lock to make it to St. Paul, almost certainly the #1 seed, and will do well if they play well. Whether that is winning it again or losing once at the end of the year is yet to be determined.
Save the Roseau=tough sked stuff because it simply won't be proven by citing games with Hibbing.

Edina by far -
Since they aren't the # 1 rated team, the target isn't nearly as large on their backs. They don't have to travel very far to play their games......big benefit there.
With their far superior schedule, Edina should be used to these games by now, and should be outscoring their opponents far more than they are.........overrated for sure.

yep!
Yep, I like it.
Roseau is just not that good? Let the Metro teams take them lightly again this year.
The Rams will have to prove themselves all over again. Nothing new for us in the North. Weak schedule, must mean they are a weak team, right?
The Rams have not put together a complete game yet, which is scary, because if they do, Championship #8 wil be hanging from the rafters in Memorial!

i really wish roseau was never ranked. i would much rather roseau just came down to the state tourney unoticed. its so pathetic listening to the bull*&% week after week after week. we live 7 miles from the canadien boarder what is the POINT!!!!!!! the people that rank teams should just do the metro teams and leave the north out of it because we dont rate anyway. it would be far less pressure for these kids if they could play the edinas of the world every week but unfortunatly its not possible. scores dont always reflect a game nor does the out come. no matter who playes who when and where the outcome can be diffrent every time. should we just say roseau is better than edina because the only team theyve both played is brainerd. edina only won by 4. roseau won by 7 on their home ice. whats it mean nothing... the fact is roseau edina tonka and probley a few others can carry that number 1 their all in that same calibor. im sure any of those teams could win on any given day or night. the crying that goes on is unbelievable. its no wonder edina is hated so bad i have never held more malice for a team in my life. i will laugh for the entire next season if they dont even make it to state. one last thing all the cidiots that come on this board preach about compatition and how much better it makes you. i wonder how good that roseau team would really be if it played edinas schedule. hell they could just hand the trophy out without the tourney.
People keep talking about Roseau's schedule. Maybe the metro teams should go up there to play them. Metro has such a huge advantage it's unbelievable. From the state tourney to Elite league they stay at home, eat Ma's cooking while out state teams stay in hotels and eat restaurant food. HUGE ADVANTAGE. Not to mention the cost. Every time you go to the cities it's a $200 dollar bill on top of hockey for the parents. Add it up over the years it a huge discrepancy for the out state players and parents because State, Elite league, and Advance are for the most part held in the Metro. While I am not advocating changing anything the cries from the cake eaters to come on down and play are B.S. Get out of your comfort zone and drive up there. The cake out-state will in all likelyhood be home made to boot.
see you at the rink!
To say Edina and Roseau are overrated seems to be a little silly and probably comes from a bit of jealousy. Hey, I'm not a big fan of the Cakeeaters as a whole but how do you argue with the record, the quality teams they have beaten and pure talent they have? And for Roseau.... They are the defending State Champions who happen to be undeafeted this year. Other teams may be underrated, but to call these two overrated is lunacy.

A: Mankato West (big 9 is down), Park Rapids(KC beat them)
AA: Hill - Murray
WBL or Roseville will beat them in sections - more battle tested in a tougher conference.
As far as Roseau is concerned - they have to play teams within their conference, the Mariucci. That is 10-12 games. That leaves them about 8-10 non-conference games. You can not expect them to travel all over the state if their school district is strapped for cash, which I have heard. It also is unrealistic for city teams to make a 6 or 7 hour trip, unless said city teams play Grand Rapids, Warroad, Thief River Falls, or some other northern teams that would give them competition. I know some teams, like Totino - Grace will do something like this.
Duluth East does play the toughest non - conf schedule of any northern team. I applaud them for it, but (and any East fan can chime in), it must be somewhat difficult on the parents, players, and fans to make long road trips week after week.
