How good is the Alexandria Girls hockey team? No, seriously

Post by curdog504 »

Ok. I need to know what everyone else thinks. How good is the Alex girls team? I have not had the chance to see them at all this year, but I did coach against them 3 years ago, and they had most of the same players from this years team on that team. How far do you think they will go??

they have a really good goalie--justice. I watched the breck/alex game which alex one 2-0. Breck outshot them like 4-1 ratio or somethin crazy like that

I'm sure you're not asking someone from Alexandria for their opinion, but here's my response to your query:
The Alex team this year is not the same as 3 years ago because in 2005-06 we had 10 Seniors that graduated. That was basically half the team. Two of those Seniors are still playing D3 hockey, btw. I do believe that this year's Seniors were always the backbone of our team starting back four to five years ago, and I'm guessing that is who you are referring to. Last year we only graduated two, a JV goalie and a defense player that didn't have much experience. This year we had a lot of younger players move up. Our Sophmores are improving game after game. That being said this year's Seniors are some of the best in the State and have proved, I think, that they can play any team with confidence. Will they win the Big One this year? I certainly can't put my own bias aside, but I think it is very possible. I hope you have an opportunity to watch them play.

ya.. I think breck outshot alex about 1-3 or so... but the majority of those shots were from the perimeter, which arent really a problem for Justice. The scoring chances were even in my opinion. Breck is a fast team. But, Alex plays as a team, works hard, and has fun. I think that has led to their success. Not to mention that the first line has a combined point total of 181.

I am not from Alexandria but have seen them play a half dozen or so games this season.

A nice first line with Williams centering, when that line is on the ice the game changes! Holmes at D is very good and as already mentioned Justice does a great job in net! The rest of the team seems to know what they are to be doing when on the ice. They should be in the championship game at state and have an excellent shot at winning!

With that being written, who knows how the puck will bounce which is of course why we watch and they play the game. Happy Play-offs to everyone!

Alex. has a really nice team. I'm predicting a 3rd place finish for them at state, just because I don't think they can get by the Section 8 team in the semi's. They could/would probably beat Roseau, but not so sure about Warroad or Crookston. Good luck Cards.

Not so sure about Crookston? why in hell not? oh ya, because you are FROM crookston. haha ridiculous. I have full confidence that they could beat ANY team that comes out of section 8A. They played Grand rapids closer than any team in Section 8A. Tied Roseau. Beat Breck 2-0. If I recall, Crookston lost to Moorhead quite badly. Anyways, I'm pullin for the rams to come out of 8A. Go rams

GOCARDS, they did say NON-Alex fans, or again non bias, and you may be their biggest fan of all. I am neither, and have seen them play plenty. So here goes.

First of all, they have maybe the easiest walk in to state of any team aA or AA. They are a solid 5 to 6 kids deep with a solid goalie, and they protect their net well. From there they have 3 to 4 very nice roll players. This is more than most teams, especially in single A. The only thing they are missing, and sorry again GOCARDS, is a "sniper", or big stud scorer. Their best player may be at D in Holmes, but Williams is a VERY solid "Team" player. Vs any of the other top A teams in the state, if Justice is even a little off, I don't see them winning it all, maybe 3rd. If Justice gets hot, even stands on her head as it is said, they very well could win it all. I know this is off topic, and may turn a few heads, but I don't know that Blake can win it this year or not, they really miss "Ms. Hockey".

Well, nobody's been able to beat them yet, Class AA teams included! But on any given night, there are few teams that are capable, and Alexandria is certainly one of them. Breck (in sections) and the 8A winner (in State) would be two others...

They are very good! They have very solid talent. They are not easily rattled. Good team play and extremely solid at the blue line. I expect them to be in the final 4

Cool, unbiased posts. GOCARDS, you shall remain silent. I have stated:

"but with all the talent on Alex's team. D1 players, Phase 3 players, Ms hockey candidate, proabably ms goalie candidate, All state players, etc., anything less than a top 3 finish at state for Alex, would be a let down. Or else there are major errors in our systems in evaluating talent."

Alex's goalie is outstanding. She can carry the team when needed. A strong defense(Holmes) and goalie(Justice)really helps your forwards get some nice stats.

The big news this year will be if Alex DOES NOT make it to the final 3.

I'm not saying they couldn't beat Crookston or Warroad (you did not elude to Warroad at all). Anyone can beat anyone on any given night. I'm just looking at Alex's track record in the state tournament over the past 4-5 years, when they've gone into the tournament with a fantastic record. What are they, like 1-7 or 2-8 down there? They went 0-2 last year. They've played a tougher schedule this year, which should help them immensely down there. I want them to do well, because I want all the northern teams to shine down there. They could very well get to the championship game this year, as could Warroad/Roseau/Crookston.

Ya, I agree Sioux Rule, I took that the wrong way. I haven't ever seen Warroad play so I don't know a whole about them. Three of the four years they have gone down there, it was a 4-team format, and the other three teams have been no slouch. Last year, two overtime losses, what can you do I guess.. Should be a good night of hockey up in Roseau on Tuesday. Good Luck

It's too bad Alex and Section 8 are in the same bracket. Would be sweet to see an all northern team championship game.

At least they dont play each other first! haha But I agree. Although, it is nice that 5A is on the other half, even though I think 6A or 8A could beat whoever comes out of that section. Also, 6A and 8As quarterfinal games are no slouch either. I do not really know much about south st. paul but they are the favorite to win 4A. Mankato West and New Prague, dont know much about them either but a likely opponent for 8A.

I would say the state tournament is shaping up nicely. Blake is out, I see a Alex vs Breck championship. And we all know how that ended up the first time. Abby Williams and team are playing some pretty good hockey. We have plenty of state experience. This is our year. Win again Cards.

Do agree that it likely should be Alex's year altho they should not have gone 2 and out last year so time will tell how the puck bounces. All the past state experiences should help deal with any state jitters some of the teams may have to deal with. There is nice field of teams so it should be a great state tourney and the teams will need to play well throughout to get the elusive state title.

Good Luck to the Cards in fulfilling their dream of being State Champs! It would be a nice way for their senior class to cap off their hockey careers.
