Woodbury/Roseville
Woobdury beat CDH 2-1 in OT tonight, making the Saturday showdown between the Royals and Raiders (of Roseville, this time) extremely important with respect to the SEC championship. Woodbury beat Roseville 4-0 at Roseville earlier in the year, but that really doesn't mean anything. Who's gonna win this time around?
It’s going to be a good one! You can throw the score of the last game right out the window. Both squads played relatively even in that meeting and they match up well against one another. I continue to be impressed by the speed of these two clubs. Both can quickly move up ice and will catch the other off guard if they aren’t on top of their game.
In that first game, Woodbury's Sr G Wigen stopped something like 30 shots to notch the shutout. (I later saw him on America’s Most Wanted for a dozen counts of robbery) Since then, Roseville’s G (Podobinski) has matured and is playing at a higher level.
Mueller (Roseville) and Eddy (Woodhood) are battling for the SEC point title and both are capable of taking the game over.
I quit making predictions regarding SEC teams a couple months ago. (Can’t figure these teams out this year) But, I can say this- It will be one heck of a battle.

Mueller vs. Eddy is no contest when Mueller is on his game and the rest of that first line moves with him.
Wondering if Roseville is underutilizing their defense with the dump and chase strategy. Better use of them at the point might add an interesting element to the mix.
Continue to be impressed with Roseville's goalie. No previous varsity experience?, matured very quickly. Very controlled goalie with most GA coming from the 2nd or 3rd rebound and/or on the PP. Could be a kid to watch for next year.
Guess all of those things coming together says Roseville.
What's the America's Most Wanted reference?

After watching Roseville/WBL last night, I think Woodbury will have thier hands full with both teams. Meuller looked incredible, and Roseville's goalie played very well. WB looked about the same as they usually do, good at times, bad at times. Woodbury should win the conf., but could lose a game to either of these teams.

Mueller is, without a doubt, the better player here. Eddy is a quality player but I wouldn't say he is capable of taking over a game. Eddy can make plays, but Mueller can truly take over a game. The opposing team's entire section gets nervous when he gets any kind of chance to score. I'll take Roseville 3-2 in this one. It will be a great game.who_b_dat wrote: Mueller (Roseville) and Eddy (Woodhood) are battling for the SEC point title and both are capable of taking the game over.

Strongly disagree. I won't say Eddy is better, but I definitely won't say Mueller is either. When the teams played at Roseville earlier this year, Eddy WAY outplayed Mueller, and, as we all know, head-to-head competition is the only thing that matters.SECHockeyFan wrote:Mueller is, without a doubt, the better player here. Oh, was Eddy playing man-to-man on Mueller the whole game?komada77 wrote:Strongly disagree. I won't say Eddy is better, but I definitely won't say Mueller is either. Mueller is a much more explosive player overall. Eddy is a very talented player, but he doesn't have the game-changing capability of Mueller.

Obviously he wan't playing him man to man as neither is a defenseman. I just thought Eddy was much better at playing forward than Mueller wasSECHockeyFan wrote:Oh, was Eddy playing man-to-man on Mueller the whole game?komada77 wrote:Strongly disagree. It's obvious both of these guys can take over a game. You can't compare the two. You could have them play a one on one game and that still wouldn't decide it because it's a team game. It's about using your teammates and being an unselfish player but taking advantage of the skills you have at the right time. Both players are very good and it was obvious last time that Eddy was better than Mueller only because Mueller was shut down and Eddy was really shut down totally. He scored the third goal if I remember correctly but that made a difference.
You just can't compare these two guys. It's just way too hard.
As for goaltending if Wigen plays the way he did against Cretin Woodbury will win no question. He played amazing when his team needed him to. In the third the play was down in Woodbury's end the entire time it seemed and Bohrer got a penalty shot. Well obviously Bohrer didn't score and what do you know Woodbury scores with 5 or so minutes to play.
Then in OT he made save after save and all of a sudden Eddy gets a puck at the side of the net and goes upper shelf. Boy was that game good. I watched it online and it was a very fast paced game. In the 2nd play went on for about 5 minutes without a whistle. Cretin definitely gave them a run for their money and I think Cretin outworked them but in the end the Royals came out with a huge win and possibly a date with the Conference Championship if they win tomorrow.
It's going to be a great battle tomorrow no question.

I am going with Woodbury on this one by 2 goals. Roseville's goalie has been playing well the last couple of games, but he is still too inconsistant. Also, Roseville tends to overplay their top two lines and I think they will run out of gas. Mueller is awesome to watch, but Roseville depends on him way too much.
Both of these goalies have shown their ability to keep their teams in the game. For a goalie, it can be any given day and how the defense is clicking. But Podobinski is anything but inconsistent if you look at the stats. His worst game was 4 goals the first game of the season, (first ever varsity?) The most goals he's given up since then were three, on two occasions - granted one of them was Woodbury and the other (#3?)Minnetonka. Contrast that with Sr. Wigen, having given up between 0 and 7 goals a game since Christmas.
Wigen has been playing well of late, and had a great game against Roseville the first time. If he can stay consistent, it will be a factor.
Any given day...pretty much this year's SEC's story line.

Are there players other than Adam Mueller on Roseville? He has not been amazing when I have seen him play. Good....no doubt, but not amazing. I give the win to Woodbury based on total team effort and not a reliance on one single player.whitebearsuperfanB wrote:From what i've seen Mueller is better than Eddy no question. Of course there are other playas in roseville. Theres a couple guys in the 2nd line that grind it out. Capestrand and Effinger I think are their names. They are good and probebly hit harder than any defenseman on the team. They make some great plays and get a piece of the team gaols. But if you watch you will see that Mueller brings the lightning and thunder to the party. If he can led the Raida’z out of the conference and into state Mueller should get the Mr. Hockey. Raida’z will kill Woodbury and win by at least 3 goals. Take it to the bank sucka!slapstkhound wrote:Are there players other than Adam Mueller on Roseville? Sorry to tell you but Wigen gave up one goal to hopkins the backup gave up six. They took their backup out after the 2nd which was way to late. The most goals he's given up is 4 and that was to both South St. Paul and Eagan way back at Christmas. In the Blake game they had to pull their backup once again and Wigen allowed one goal.score14me wrote:Both of these goalies have shown their ability to keep their teams in the game. Woodbury won 4-0 so was the last one empty net i can't remember? And when did Wigen give up 7 goals in a game? If you're talking about the Hopkins game, Woodbury played backup goalie Andrew Pronsati.score14me wrote:Both of these goalies have shown their ability to keep their teams in the game. You can't blame a goalie for giving up 4 goals to a offensive juggernaut like SSP or Eagan.heybuddy wrote:Sorry to tell you but Wigen gave up one goal to hopkins the backup gave up six.
