Edina (20-1) @ Hopkins (18-2-1) Tonight 2-7-08
Edina won the first meeting 4-0 at home. Can Hopkins avenge the loss and pull off the upset at home?
We get it already, you're bitter that Mtka lost to Hopkins.DasCondor wrote:hopkins is the most overated team in AA they will get destroyed but their goalie may keep it not a complete blowout my guess is 5-1 edina
Now I'll let you in on a little secret.....if you praise Hopkins instead of bashing them it makes your team look better.

It was a pretty good hockey game. The first period was tilted towards the Hornets, but Hopkins had their chances, especially on the power play. They were skating hard & fast & playing with passion.
The 2nd period, Hopkins looked to lose a bit of that emotional step and didn't look as fast, and Edina made them pay for it with 3 pretty quick goals back to back to back and had the majority of the play. Hopkins didn't have anything until the end of the period on the power play. I said "If Edina gets out of the 2nd up 3-0, it wil be an easy 2-3 goal win." However, Hopkins banged one in the power play with about 17 seconds left to make it 3-1 going into the 3rd.
Hopkins got a trash goal to make it 3-2, and then got a matchup mismatch with their 1st line against Edina's 3rd line, which was winded from a long shift and got 3rd goal to tie it up. Budish got a shorty with about 7 minutes left when he just threw it at the net after a strong forecheck by him & Everson. Hopkins didn't have any chances the remainder of the game until about the last 20 seconds and then a big scrum in front almost tied it up.
I was impressed with Hopkins; they have good size & good speed and could skate with Edina for the most part. They definitely belonged on the ice with Edina and may be a very difficult team to beat in 6AA. They have good goaltending, and their powerplay was pretty good with their size, giving Edina's D a lot of problems in terms of clearing them out in front of the goal. I was particularly impressed with #17 & #21. Both good strong, big kids with good shots, hockey sense, & could skate. I was also impressed with the 8th grader as well.
Edina? Another game with the bullseye on them and they answered. Fons made a bunch of saves to keep Hopkins in the game, especially in the 1st & 2nd periods. I thought Edina's D got careless with the puck in their own zone once in a while, but they are pretty good at jumping into the play. Baker's goal was a pretty one. What makes Edina so good is that they have two absolute horses at center with Budish & Lee. No team in the state can match the top 2 centermen firepower that Edina and they're constantly on the offensive whenever both of those lines are out there.
Simply another game where Edina answered the bell against a good hockey team that was playing with a lot of emotion.

Pretty well said, I'll just add that just prior to the scrum at the end, Hopkins probably had a better shot at tying it up when Seashore managed to catch Caschetta moving the wrong way, but he shot a backhand wide - the net was wide open - I was right behind it. The puck bounched off the end boards then the scrum ensued. Edina did a great job of keeping the Royals bottled up in their own end after the time out with 1:05 left. If Hopkins could've shook free, got into the Edina end with a little bit more time... who knows? But - that's one of the things Edina does better than just about everybody else - they use their size to their advantage.
