If EGF can beat TRF on tuesday i believe EGF will end up #2 seed. If EGF loses they could end up #4. Warroad will for sure get #1.
You can't vote with your heart.... The rules for seeding is quite simple if you talk to a coach that knows them. Head to head games carry the most weight by far... After that than they look at section wins and then strength of schedule. No way will TRF anf EGF be ahead of PR. PR beat them in head to head. Plus PR only has one section loss. The only team better than them is Warroad.
Well, yes, you can vote with your heart.

Seeding rules for Section 8A boys hockey
Seeded by coaches at a meeting using records and other info.
Head to head games may carry a lot of weight, but that's not how it works.

8A has a meeting. They discuss, they can vote, but the coaches decide the seeding. There is no little formula they use. Head to head games, section wins & losses, SOG, common opponents, all mean something, but no one is bound by criteria. Bottom line is who is the best, second best.

8AA head coaches vote and email or fax their votes via their AD into the Section 8AA secretary that tabulaates the votes.

I would doubt that Old School Section 8a coaches are going to give PR any kind of the benefit of the doubt. You can believe in your heart that they will but that won't make it happen. KC Loss and Crookston ot win will definately haunt them as well as well as the lack of strength of their schedule this is going to give the coaches their chance to seed PR 4 or 5. Chances are way less than 50/50 that they will be a 2 seed.

I was there with an unbiased eye.
On TRF's ice, with emotions flowing the other way, it very well could be a reversal of that score.
You cannot deny the emotion and momentum PR had from that crowd.
And a couple of different calls, a puck going a little different direction and the momentum would have shifted.

Don't put all your cards on that one game or on seeding.
If they don't get the seed they want, well then their minds are in the wrong place. Players should not worry about the seed. The first shift of the q-finals is where their minds should be. The fans (us guys) well that's what makes it fun for us,in addition to the games.

PR's chance of winning sections rest in no one being ill or injured and Knapp playing at 100% and Smith making some stops and the D not getting burned by trying to overdue their jobs. Lehrke will do what he does.

They may have beat EGF and TRF to take a large step forward. Losing to KC though is going to certainly play heavily in the coaches minds when it comes time to vote for seeds. I still think PR will get the 2 seed, but it wouldn't surprise me, or upset me if EGF or TRF got it. I think either situation is justifiable.

Absolutely and I don't think they do. We get paralysis by analysis because we don't have anything else to do. But there was a day when my skates were used everyday and the internet didn't exist, back then we knew who we should beat and who we could beat and whether we played the favorites on a Thurs, Fri, Sat, Mon, or Thurs mattered very little.

What were the shots again? Hmm, that's right 37-22. A momentum shift here or there and it may have been 35-28 or 35-30. TRF got absolutely worked, any other description than that is nonsense.

I have to say schwang17 is right. TRF got handled. Not to mention, this group of PR players beat the TRF club a few years back, 6 to 2. The 4-0 score was not a lucky bounce, or a lucky save here or there, it was the out come it should have been. TRF was out shot, out worked and out of excuses.

The only thing you'll ever hear me complain about or make excuses for is the 3 team rotation for the right to host our great Section tournament. Hold it at Grand Rapids or Moorhead for christ sake. I understand the rinks used are worthy of hosting it, and the money earned stays in the Section - that doesn't mean it's right. Every other Section should do the same. Duluth East gets a home Section tournament every year? What kinda garbage is that?

The TRF/PR game means absolutely nothing as we head in to sections. Last year TRF lost to EGF Twice during the regular season year then pounded them in the Sections. I would surely like to see a TRF/PR matchup in the Semi's at the Ralph. I do think that Elliot is right where you are seeded means little. It's what you do when you lace them up at the Ralph that counts. You are still going to have to get through Warroad to get to state at some point. By the way I think that you can look up the shots of the PR/TRF game were 30-26 with the Prowlers outshooting PR 9-6 in the 3rd. Spin it any way you want to schwanger.

The game was 4-0. It really was never close. And you're right, it means nothing. 2 games matter, and I hope we get to see a rematch.

A re-match would be great. I saw the PR game and I agree with you PR outplayed trf for the most part. Lehrke is fun to watch and will be a great college hockey player. I know that all other teams in Section 8 that do not host a section are always going to be wanting home ice but it just is not going to happen. It will be an impossible task to break the 3 arena rotation. Money talks but if it were only money it would be held in the Little Ralph every year because the sections draw much better crowds there.

YES, it's that time of year we can regurgitate this old but always electrifying topic.

First off, I hear your pain Schwang but you can't fix a problem by making another one. Warroad got in the rotation when 8A was far north heavy (Roseau, Indus, LOW, Warroad, Hallock). Since then, Roseau and Indus disappeared and were replaced with southern teams. I didn't like when Warroad got in the rotation, not because of travel but because of their Olympic sheet. Whether it is right or wrong, now that they're in, they're in. GR and Moorhead are not geographically or financially reasonable unless the 8A decision-makers decision-make with spite as a basis.

It is a very good point that IS makes relating to the olympic sheet in Warroad. It creates a real and unique advantage for the Warriors when the section is in Warroad. The angles are different and there is more room behind the goal. If Bemidji or Crookston gets new arena's that seat 3000 or better it will be interesting to see if they are even considered as options. I would think that they should be.

Until anyone gets a new arena that can hold more than EGF, TRF, or Warroad's arena then this very nice rotation we have going on will stay the same. Would you rather we have the games in St. Cloud like 8AA? As far as location, TRF is right in the middle of everyone but we all know that won't happen.

Warroad
East Grand Forks
Thief River Falls

Hopefully we will get to see either Crookston or Bemidji in the rotation, maybe both.

So the southern teams should always travel 3 hours every year and the northern teams should never have to expend that same treatment? Hypocracy at its finest!

Would you trade me Lehrke for playing the Sectional at Moorhead this year?

Ahh yes - I have heard about this before. Giving up the farm for equal rights. I should gather my troops, write a speech, and head for the coaches meeting.

And playing the 8A tournament in Grand Rapids or Moorhead is rational?

Let's be rational, play it in TRF every year on a 200x85 sheet. TR used to have one, what happened to it.

I think after this year Park Rapids would be a perfect site for the Championship game every year. That would ensure that it is a neutral site for both teams involved.

Schwang did you find your place yet?
