Hill stole won today (scoring late in the 3rd). Wicked game to watch, both teams looked impressive.

Truly a game for tv fans. They couldn't have scripted it any better. Got a realistic look at Phillipi today. Not quite the same game as what he's use to. Too bad for both the goalies, one of them had to get the 'L'. Lechner is one class act the way he came across today. Loved the "ugly goal" speech.

Fantastic game to pick for hockey day. A mainly back and forth game with an exciting finish is the most a MN hockey fan could ask for! Congrats to the Pioneers on the victory...hopefully this will lock up the Classic Suburban Championship!

Congrats boys, nice win today. Ya kept working & good things came to ya. I hope it was a great experience being a part of a special day of hockey. On a negative note, the D needs to tighten things up come sections because 1 wrong turnover at the wrong time & seasons over. I'm confident Shaff will address somethings & progress will be made. Good luck against Mahtomedi!

I could listen to Terhaar and Greenlay broadcast a HS game all day. Great broadcasting today as well. Nothing over the top. First class on the ice, all the way up to the broadcasters.

It was a great game, but it seemed like Rooney's break away in the 3rd was a goal. They immediately disallowed it, but there was never another word about it. Mainly because of the Ferne v. Larson fistacuffs. Anyone else think that particular play deserved an extra look? I know it isn't the state tournament, and they can't review it, but it seemed like a big play with no attention. Hats off to Hill....way to keep pluggin' away.

If that is the one where the play carried in Flip, not sure if the puck ever crossed the line before the net came off. Good no call (at leat in the eyes of a Pioneer).

With Hill still losing near the end of regulation, most Pioneer alumni watching Fox had to be proud of Coach Lechner.

No matter if he has the lead or if the wheels are coming off, Lex is cool.

While every opposing coach for Minnesota's top programs are having public meltdowns against the Pioneers, Lex is cracking jokes in a pressure cooker; keeping his guys loose; reminding them not to get fancy; and sticking with the game plan.

Anyone notice that at the same time Lex gives individual players or referees some stern criticism, Lex still shows those individuals great respect? Did you notice him clutching his sweater and covering his microphone in order to avoid embarrassing any one player on national television?

Yes, Hill-Murray students of the 1970's were wrong to refer to Lex as Tom Selleck; Bill Lechner is cooler than Magnum P.I..

You have got to be kidding me with this, pistol. My Lord... how much more of a homer can you possibly be? Are you aware that hockey is played outside of Maplewood?! What a pathetic statement this is... even for you!

Did it ever occur to you that Lechner was fully aware that he had a mic on him and didn't want to look like an ass on national tv?!?!?!

Geez pistol. Your lips chapped from all that butt kissing? Image Image

Great game between two very good teams, although I thought both teams played better in the first game between the teams. I don't see anyeon threatening STA in their section, but Hill will have a battle on their hands. They are more talented than any other team in the section, but, as they have shown against Tartan and SSP, they don't always show up to play.

Nice gesture at the end of the game on the bench. Lech & Zepeda have not always seen things "eye to eye" over the yrs. With Zepeda on the bench in street clothes & the players celebrating the winning goal, he turns to Lech & gives his coach a big old hug. You can hear Lech muttering something about Tyler getting healthy. Nice scene.

No kidding. Vanellie did go into meltdown on Walters right on TV. Taking a penalty before over time in the biggest game of the year so far was not smart onhis part. You need one of your top players on the ice at that time. Get in his face is fine just make sure in this day of technology you know where big brother is all the time. It could be interpreted wrong by many.
Lechner seemed to know where the technology was and covered his Mike. And because he new where everything was he actually took advantage of it in the locker room on the bench etc. to make him look like the consumate professional.

Who cares if it was on TV? Coaches chew out players on the bench all the time. BFD.

REGIONAL TV
Oh yeah? Weird. I must be the only one in country with a sports pack that includes every FSN, Comcast, MSG, YES, and every other regional sports network in the country! All of those east coast high school games, Michigan high school games, Colorado high school games... I must be the only one in the country who gets to see them! Lucky me!

I take it back, nobody outside of Minnesota or Wisconsin could possibly see Lechner in all his glory. What shame!

Sounds like Govs is struggling with the Johnson Hockey Reality Show. The reality is that Johnson hasn't been a factor in the Minnesota high school hockey scene is quite some time. All that is left is to reflect on the good old days & the sympathy that the eastside just isn't what is used to be. You followed a team all season that is pretty much on life support & hoped that some doctor could find a cure to give it a boost and resemble the days of old. It just never happened. But good news, the end is near & the doctor is ready to pull the plug. It will be time to reflect on another season where you recall the little moral victories that happened along the way.

I can understand your disdain for a program like Hill's & the people that support it. Success will cause people to feel that way. I'm sure it bothered you that Hill did not quit on Saturday, got a lucky bounce or two, and pulled out another victory. I'm also sure it bothers you that Hill continues to be a factor in Minnesota High School hockey & you are constantly reminded that Johnson is not. I know you will celebrate at the end if Hill fails to win a conference/section/state title & that's what makes being a Pioneer so special & continues to make us stronger.

I like the way you look in green (jealousy) as you stand in a long line of anti-Hill people and hold hands with the likes of Tartan fans.
