D6 Rule Change Coincidence?
Gotta love this. Apparently when Wayzata scrimmaged Edina the other day one of Edina's star players (won't mention names) got a fighting penalty, which would normally apply for five game suspension. However, D6 just "happened" to change the rule to only a three game suspension right when the incident occurred. Does anyone know if during anytime this year another player in D6 was charged with a fighting penalty, thus earning the five games?
Update:
Date of Scrimmage- 2/6
Date of Rule Change- 2/7
Hmmm.........

Because that's D6 Rules. If it was a "scrimmage" between two teams from different districts, why would he be suspended at all?

I believe it means he should get charged with five. The fight happened before, so the rule change was not in effect yet. What caused them to change the rule this deep in the season? That's what I'd like to know.would he not get charged the 5 game suspension because the kid got in a fight before the rule change?

If this kid got a Fighting Penalty than here is the rule set by D6 (scrimmage, league or tournament)highschoolhockeyfann wrote:He's actually out for only 1 game, which he already served.
Rule 5.3
Fighting and Fisticuffs
A fighting penalty will result in the suspension of the player for the balance of that game and the next five (5) previously scheduled games (includes league, tournament and playoff games and scrimmages). A second offense will result in player(s) suspension for the balance of the season.
Recieved this on the 7th.
Good afternoon All, Effective immediately any fighting penalties involving any level (Squirt, U10, Peewee, U12, Bantam,U14, U19) player in District Six will be a three game suspension. If you recall, this rule was recently changed to three games for Junior Gold. This will also be retroactive to any players currently serving a suspension for fighting. Brad Hewitt, with the authority given to him by Minnesota Hockey, with 100% support from me, authorized this change from the current rule of five games to three. Please contact any players and their coaches currently serving a suspension and inform them of the change. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you very much!

Rule Change
1. The rule change was discussed at length at the January D6 board meeting and was changed to be consistent with the rule change for Junior Gold.
2. There are no Edina individuals on the D6 board - In fact - Director is from EP, League Operations is from EP, President is from Mtka, President Elect is from Chaska, Girls Director is from EP, ther D6 board members are from Burnsville, Minnetonka, and Apple Valley.
Trust me - this rule was not changed due to the Edina / Wayzata fight.

Good to know it wasn't one of the two classier players on the team.
Who got the fighting major? Lashene sp?.... or #10... Would 10 make it long enough to get a fighting major?
Is Edina going to beat Chaska on Saturday or what?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that the Edina Bantam A's from two years ago finished first in district league play. This was the first year that you would not automatically make it for being number one in league. I think that Edina then choked in the playoffs, thus not earning a spot in Regions. They then got their lawyers involved who proceeded to essentially by the team a Regional Tournament position. If you ask me, it just seems way too weird that the communication would be sent out the very day after the fight occurred. It needed to be after the season since some kids have already served five games for fighting and it would be unfair to them.
