Little moral victories... like twice the titles of HM and being home to one of the biggest heroes in American hockey history?

Good thing losing makes HM stonger... they've been doing quite a bit of it since 1993. You would think that with all that "strength" the Pioneers have built up over the last 15 years it would've resulted in a title by now, no?

Sounds like even the mighty Pioneers are starting to live in the past while pointing the finger at others for doing the same... the difference is that the Governors aren't reviled statewide when we do. Most have a fondness and respect for the great Governor teams of the past and will put them up with the great Eveleth, International Falls, and Roseau teams of the same era.

HM? Their statewide success has been so sporadic and infrequent, they're really just a footnote. And it's the "holier-than-thou" disrespect that you've just shown, PPG, that makes the Pioneers the target of the scorn they get... it's certainly not success, because quite honestly, there just hasn't been that much to get upset about!

Yeah, wish we were HM!

I guess we have a different way of defining success. We enjoy playing big games & playing for section titles. We enjoy the experience of playing in the state tournament. We enjoy being one of the elite 8 teams that people come to see & cheer against. We enjoy being covered by the media. We have done this in the past & continue to do this. Johnson does not. State titles are precious, and both our schools have experienced these, but to limit the term of "success" to one game, would be narrow minded...but to each there own.

I can understand your desire to hold onto history as the past is all Johnson has. The present isn't pretty & the future looks even worse. You can recall with fondness the years gone by as you drive home from the arena after seeing the Govies drop another contest to a mediocre club. For us, the past has been good, the present is good, and the future looks solid as well.

So don't worry, the misery of another Johnson season will end soon & you can add another chapter to the glory years. People will continue to talk about your program in such ways as, "do they still have a program?" :D

Once again, another difference... As you well know from my other posts regarding today's Johnson hockey, I'm fully aware of the state the program's in - I see things for what they are. Even though they're not winning much anymore, and most families are moving out to the suburbs, I'll take every kid wearing a maroon sweater this year over just about anybody who's ever worn green. Those kids have more respect for who they are and where they come from than anybody I've ever dealt with from Hill-Murray - and I've dealt with a lot. You're acting like a prime example of what I'm talking about.

There's such an elitist mentality there, it's ridiculous - even CDH generates kids who have some common sense and respect for others. The kids that attend school there are generally developed to go about their business quietly, whereas HM can't wait to yammer on and on about how "great" they are, despite the fact that it's just not the case. The blind squirrel found a nut twice. Congratulations.

But you, as a typical HM fan, are still are patting yourself on the back, saying that mediocrity over the last 15 years makes the Pioneers an "elite" team. Maybe the Pioneers "success" is as a result of the fact that they're in Maplewood and ended up in in Section 3 all this time. I'd be willing to go so far as to say they are a good team when it comes to preparing for teams they know, but maybe the talent isn't really there like everybody thinks, because they haven't been able to compete with most other sections in this state (including the "weak" Section 1! ) Keep selling... maybe somebody outside of Maplewood will buy it!

Too funny Govs. I love the fact that you can take shots at the quality of kids comming from Hill Murray High School... I see a great deal of quality comming from that fine academic institution known as Johnson. But I'm glad you choose to compare us to another fine parochial school...we enjoy the company.

This whole communication between us started when you took shots at Lech, which I viewed as unnecessary. I could take shots at Moose....but why? If you define the past 15 yrs of Hill hockey as being mediocre, how would you define the past 15 for your Govies...abysmal?

So let's just stop & enjoy our teams for what they are. You cheer for what the Govies produce on/off the ice & I'll do the same for Hill. You show love for what Moose does for your Program & I'll do the same for Lech.

As for Neut, Pioneers don't quit when they are behind, they keep pluggin away & sometimes good things happen.

What shot did I take at Lechner? I pointed out pistol's ridiculous "man crush" on him and the fact that he had a mic on and acted accordingly. Was that out of line?

"I take it back, nobody outside of Minnesota and Wisconsin could possible see Lechner in all his glory. What a shame. "

Took it as a shot.

No... I had to work Sunday because I have a couple of former Pioneers that work for me and they can't close the deal... had to come in to finish their work for them! (that's actually partially true!)

Not sure why Kohls is getting credit for the goal that tied the game. I thought it was pretty clear the puck went off Saintey's skate and into the net. Cecka was the one who put the puck off his skate. Shouldn't that be Cecka's goal?
