Duluth East 3, Superior 2

Wessman Arena, Superior -- Duluth East was finally able to solve Superior goaltender Kyle Johnson early in the third period as the Hounds scored twice in a 2:59 span to take a 3-2 lead. Johnson stopped 38 shots - many in spectacular fashion as he kept the Spartans in the game and in the lead for much of the game. Pat Dalbec put Superior up 1-0 in the first period with under six minutes to play. Mike Renier tihen scored for east midway through the 2nd with an unassisted goal to knot it up at one. Just minutes later, John Ledoux capitalized on a five-on-three Superior powerplay to put the Spartans back on top at 2-1. The score stood until the third when Joe Arbour scored 31 seconds in to tie it at two. Then, just 2:59 later, Jake Williams put home what turned out to be the game winner for Duluth East. Matt Cooper picked up the win in goal for East, stopping 16 shots.

Duluth East 0-1-2=3
Superior 1-1-0=2

First Period - 1. Superior, Pat Dalbec (Cory Wilander), 11:14.

Second Period - 2. Duluth East, Mike Renier (Unassisted), 7:45; 3. Superior, John LeDoux (Mike Plummer), 10:19 (PP).

Third Period - 4. Duluth East, Joe Arbour (Rob Johnson), 0:31; 5. Duluth East, Jake Williams (Mike Renier), 3:30.

Saves - Matt Cooper, Duluth East, 5-5-6=16; Kyle Johnson, Superior, 11-13-14=38.
