U10 Rankings

Post by U10Father »

I know that nobody ranks U10s formally, like they don't rank Squirts. But, in general, which are the better teams that people have seen or played. I can start by saying that Eden Prairie won the tournament that we were in and looked pretty effortless.

Lakeville North and Eden Prairie are the most dominant teams I have seen. I hear Rochester is pretty good also. I am going to watch them this weekend.

New Prague may be a decent B team, but they don't have the depth that the A teams do. Some good top end players, but also a few first year players sprinkled in.

Fairly typical of most teams from smaller communities.

Rochester is pretty freaking amazing, at least the one kid (#5) is.

Eden Prairie is good, too. Well coached.

Rochester has been very good this year. #5 is a great young player, but they have a few other good hockey players as well.
I watched them dominate Edina (5-6 goal win) in the Rochester Tourney Championship, who was also a very good team that had only lost to Eden Prairie prior to that.
I believe Rochester has played both Lakeville & Eden Prairie recently, so somebody may have those results... :?:
#5 still has a year left in U10  , but I think she will move up next year to U12A, and play with her older sister. 8)

Edina

Post by U10Father »

Should've mentioned Edina. Played pretty even with Eden Prairie. They have a DMan who shoots a knee-high slap shot that is pretty amazing for a U10.

Eden Prairie 3
Rochestor 2

Eden Prairie 4
Lakeville N 4

Ranking:
Eden Prairie
Rochestor
Lakeville N
Wayzata
Edina

Haven't seen the Wright county team in any of the big tournaments but I hear they have a couple strong players. Rochestor has a one great forward. Wayzata and Edina have good depth and play a full roster. Eden Prairie runs 3 lines and wears you out.

Cake Eaters vs Cake Eaters

I've seen both Edina and Wayzata, Edina's better. They're about as deep as Eden Prairie, will hit you with 3 strong lines, maybe not quite as fast as EP, but pretty big and they pass well.

#5 is a fun player to watch.

She generally beats the forecheckers/forwards who pressure her and then most teams only have one or two forwards that can match her speed so that leaves the D to deal with her the whole game.

EP scrimmaged Roch a few weeks ago and so they surely knew what she could do. EP is a very fast team and has about 5 or 6 forwards that can match #5s speed and they skated hard and helped out the D a lot. Even when she got past the forwards, they skated hard and so there was very hot backpressure. Good coaching.

Also, interestingly, the EP Dmen were very cautious about stepping up on her rushes - choosing instead to fade back deep into DZ and not let her get behind them. You obviously risk a screen but it worked. She tried to shoot thru them sometimes but was not able to find the back of the net.

She still got some nice chances but the EP goalie played great. I'd have to guess that Rochester probably outshot EP but don't have the exact numbers.

PS...Wanted to see her in shootout but coach had her as last shooter (??) and she didn't get to shoot because EP scored on 3 of first 4 shootout attempts and got up 3-1.

Good game that could have gone either way. Note that Rochester took a shot at the end of the 4-4 OT and the puck bounced right in front of EP goalie and took a crazy bounce just as buzzer went off and puck went in net but ref waived it off (good call). EP caught a break there.

U10 A

I haven't watched much U10 this year, but I just watched Lakeville South beat Edina pretty easily in a 3 on 3 scrimmage. I know it is not the same thing, but Lakeville South had it in Edina's end most of the game. Edina did have a couple of very nice players and they have two girls playing boys that are better then any other U10's, but I though Lakeville South was better then Edina.

What?

Post by blondegirlsdad »

You were watching that?

Um, nobody won, it was 10-10, it wasn't even a real scrimmage, and Edina was screwing around. Nobody playing their real position, no rules, nobody even pretending that was real hockey...

I wouldn't take too much away from a 10-10 3-on-3 game in a tiny rink.

You mean like on one of those smaller rinks?

Why would you even compare teams by watching that?

U10 is all about development why don't you folks take off the replica jerseys and calm down. It is only U10 level not really worth getting too cranked up about.....lots of years left for development.

not to burst your bubble about your grand win over east grand forks, and roseau , but sorry to say most of them are 8u age. sorry small towns tend to do that with their kids to get numbers.
